Peak Reddit.
Dont believe the news you will maybe hear about a spike in germany. It was just an infection in a slave camp no risk for the population.
Oh okay, sounds good thanks for the info... WAIT WHAT!?!?

well it was a meat processing plant and the line workers of those are eastern europeans who have to life in camps and get their papers taken away.

Part III of the Magic ADA Card Saga.

Here's an update. Literally yesterday CA Governor ordered everyone to wear masks in public. I've had enough of VirusRegime and VirusTyrants and my anger has given way to a sense of bemusement. I finally decided to approach the Final Boss: COSTCO. The wholesale giant had made itself a grand reputation by being the chief enforcers of VirusRegime and there's that Twitter video of that wagie fag confiscating a full shopping cart because the shopper wasn't wearing a mask. To make extra sure, in addition to my Magic ADA card, I had a printed copy of this letter from the CEO with the specific language "This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition" underlined. Result?

IT
FUCKING
WORKED!!!

The check-in guy only glanced at the letter, not even reading it. "Every day there's one person who comes in with the paper," he said. Bonus: we had a little chat about how the mask rule is nothing but a power play by the government. He told me he would print out an exemption for himself, but feels constrained by the fact that he's an employee.

For the whole of my trip, I could barely contain my shit-eating grin.

Believe I would do the same thing, if I was ever to go back to Costco. Used to go every week. No more. Saves money, need not be treated like a leper/criminal. Don't give a fuck what they are doing now. Got to see employees' true colors. Keep membership because wife likes to shop there. As a rule, if I can't get it on base or online, I probably don't need it.

Here's a very good article from the Federalist. The writer simply tells the truth. The next time something like this happens - and there always is a next time - don't see much cooperation.

Added: Just sent a copy of the article to my county "board of supervisors". They won't give a fuck but least now they know people see through their bullshit.

[EDIT: One wordfilter is still active. archive.t-o-d-a-y wordfilters to archive.md]

A Federal judge, Paul Maloney, of the Grand Rapids/West Michigan U.S. District Court, has ordered that Michigan gyms can reopen June 25, on the grounds that everything else is being opened and the Governor has presented no evidence that gyms are more dangerous than anywhere else.
"Faced with imminent harm, plaintiffs presented defendants with a simple question: why must we remain closed?" Maloney wrote. "Defendants answered with a blanket 'trust us' statement that is insufficient to uphold a no-longer-blanket rule."
Maloney has also requested that the State Supreme Court hear the lawsuits against Whitmer promptly, instead of waiting for them to go through the court of appeals. This request is just a request and has no legal force.

A few days ago, in the Detroit Free Press:

The Michigan government ignored a warning from nursing homes that they shouldn't be forced to accept COVID patients.
"Three days after the confirmation of Michigan's first COVID-19 cases, the state's nursing home association leader recommended in a letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration that empty facilities should be used as quarantine centers to "avoid widespread infection."
But state officials declined the suggestion of Melissa Samuel, president and CEO of the Health Care Association of Michigan, and instead set up a system in which infected residents are cared for in isolated areas of nursing homes, separate from residents without the virus."

MICHIGAN RECAP
Most stuff reopened or about to be. Death toll and new cases way down. It's looking like it's all over except the lawsuits.

OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL

The state has begun tracking probable cases and deaths. Those are not included here. I don't know how they factor into the "recovered" total.

Detroit Metro (pop. 3,860,000 total; 1,796/sq. mi.; 694/sq km):*

36,906 confirmed / 4,466 dead
36,426 confirmed / 4,429 dead last week
(i.e. 37 new deaths, down 32 from the previous week)
Normal Detroit Metro Death Rate: 104 per day.**

Other Michigan (6,120,000; 65/sq. mi.; 25/sq km):

24,178 confirmed / 1,377 dead
23,375 confirmed / 1,338 dead last week
(i.e. 39 new deaths, down 7 from the previous week)
Normal not-Detroit Death Rate: 167 per day**

All Michigan (9,990,000; 103/sq. mi.; 40/sq km):

61,084 confirmed / 5,843 dead / 49,290 recovered = 5,951 active cases^
59,801 confirmed / 5,767 dead / 44,964 recovered = 9,070 active cases last week^
(76 dead (down 39) and 4,326 declared recovered (up 1,403 since last week)
Net change: -3,119 active cases since last Saturday.^
Normal Michigan Death Rate: 271 per day.**

Death toll doubled since: April 22.

State Government site, daily - archive.today is broken for Brave;
State Gov site, total, includes breakdowns by sex, age, race and ethnicity - archive is useless after redesign.
*Here defined as the City of Detroit, and Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties, minus state and federal prisoners, who are not counted towards any county's cases, but are kept in categories of their own.
** As of 2018.
^Here calculated based on confirmed cases and deaths only.

One Ann Arbor man allegedly killed by his roommate in a Corona-related dispute (archive). The suspect has been released from custody while the investigation continues (archive).
One Flint security guard allegedly murdered for telling a woman that her daughter needed to wear a mask in a dollar store. Multiple suspects are in custody (archive, A&N thread).

I wouldn’t need it. Not running an op or have to be on call to perform brain surgery. Remember the good old days when NOBODY carried a phone except the ultra-degenerate?

No, good to have for an emergency. Get a Tracfone flip burner. Cheap to buy, minutes cheap. Learned lesson a few years ago when traveling by train to see relatives. Train ran someone over. We were there several hours, got in very late. Was able to borrow phone but can't always count on that.

@JosephStalin Two days ago my employer (here's some deets) started requiring that every employee who travels out of their immediate vicinity--for business or personal reasons--needs to fill out a form to submit to HR Karen and some other corporate stooge. I'm trying to get in touch with my lawyer to see if I could oppose this bullshit rule on right-to-privacy grounds, but if they're going to play the "it's a private company!" loophole or make my employment contingent on contact tracing or getting GatesVaxx, then I'm going to quit.

No notice.

I'm not going to lay down and let all of civilized society brand me like an ox because of a chest cold. I'd rather die (and I'm sure they'll oblige because they label us as grannykillers for doing so).

Emergencies are rare now. No ops anymore so rudimentary trip planning reduces the likelihood of emergencies and, therefore, the need to carry a tracker. I do agree Tracphone is the best one to carry if you must carry one though, as long as you can remove the battery. If your family is sick or the likelihood of unexpected need is higher than normal. It’s getting tougher because they are now trying to ban cash.

It showed up in LineageOS, too. Fortunately it seems to be disabled if Bluetooth is off, and I don't use Bluetooth in public. They can probably turn it on remotely when they need to.

The job market is terrible, but because we are still in phase 1 it likely isn't going to change. A lot of my friends in the service industry are still all out of work and my other friends that are in essential sectors are experiencing huge shortage of hours, along with generally there is just no work to do when they are in. The job market was not that great before the pandemic, we never quite recovered from 2008, but this is 2008 on steroids it seems like. I am not in the proponent that we still need to be locking down like this, it's fucking retarded.

These lefty faggots are ruining everything and it has to come to an end. I have never been so angry in my life, it is very hard not to get demoralized, but we'll have our day...
Welcome to the 2020 sequel of the Great Ukrainian Famine.

It says that you need to install a participating app in order for the notifications to work. I found the same thing on my phone. I am not worried because I did not install a participating app and I only turn on Device Location if I get lost and need to check Google Maps.

Sorry to interrupt the flow here, but a few weeks ago I made a post referencing commentary on a speech made by a former Chinese Defense Minister concerning potential plans for, among other things, occupying the United States through the use of a depopulating bioweapon. Some mod obviously thought it was only fit for Spergatory, and I won't argue that point. I will, however, provide a link to the post for any further consideration, as I feel it is at least relevant to the current discussion.

General Chi’s Nasty Wuhan Soup: A Recipe for BioWar?

Replies have been spoilered into groups.

I went to the doctor's office this week for the first time since late February (so ... Before all of this lockdown shit happened in the United States). I had a prescription to refill, and thusly needed to do some routine bloodwork.
Various doctors offices in my part of KiwiLand have various protocols. All are expected to ask the same battery of questions, but others actually take temperatures and still others will make people use hand sanitizer upon arrival. I'm not sure what to expect with the appointments I have to reschedule or make during the summer.

About a week ago my brother-in-law and father tried to go to a Best Buy in two separate instances, and they were stopped and asked for all their "bio information" or some shit and both promptly left. Un-fucking-believable.
If I was asked for "bio information," my initial response would be, "What's that?" As @JosephStalin already mentioned, this provides good incentive to patronize stories with minimal restrictions or order online otherwise in order to save everyone involved unnecessary drama.

Do you know anyone who is a hairdresser?
One my job's business clients is someone who took over a salon. With the state's restriction on those facilities not ending until this past week, I have no idea how much business activity she will have between now and the end of the month -- or if she even bothered to reopen yet. I suppose I'll know more at the end of the month when she reports how much taxable merchandise she sold during the quarter. That's the other big issue right now: the combination of misinformation, scare tactics, and uncertainty has left business owners skittish about reopening even if they need to do so ASAP because they need to resume their money-making activities. On the flip side, people that need haircuts and other items are reluctant to go out because of the hype and hysteria surrounding a second wave that may or may not happen. It's one thing to make an informed decision that considers the health and welfare of all involved parties. But it really sucks that people lack the definitive information they need to make such an informed decision. *sigh*
-----
This legitimately made me sad.
And that's been the rub. Prior to all the protests, we've seen state and local governmental folks telling peopel they needed to stay home/safe because it was what's needed to prevent too many infections and reduce the likelihood of a second wave. in some areas, people were threatened with misdemeanor charges (and the resulting criminal record) -- often from Democratic leaders that are advocating for decriminalization and jail reform -- for doing anything deemed totally unnecessary or unessential.

Once the BLM and related protests began, it's been interesting to see these same elected officials turn a blind eye to protestors not wearing masks or social distancing as demanded.

Another example of this hypocracy comes from Michigan. Protesting without social distancing is totally acceptable, but showing movies to commemorate Juneteenth and raise money for the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) led to AG Dana Nessel sending a letter threatening legal action against the theater owner.

(Archive: Emagine Theater)

Oddly enough, the Free Press has what looks like an op-ed piece saying that the protests aren't behind COVID-19 upticks seen in those areas. The average person that accepts this premise might question why people are still being asked to wear masks or socially distance if unmasked people in close proximity with each other are neither contracting nor spreading COID-19 during protests.

While I'm scattershooting, see no way there will be any Major League Baseball this year. Far as the NFL goes, don't give a fuck but they'll either have to play in front of all the fans who care to come or no fans at all. To do anything else invites lawsuits from season ticket holders deprived of their seats. And figure the odds of a whole stadium of NFL fans meekly submitting to any "protocols". Likely the same for NBA and the NHL. But I don't care about them, either.
With millionaire players and owners fighting over how to split a pot of millions in revenues, the petty squabbling -- especially the ongoing MLB haggling -- comes across as a petty first-world problem that makes it easy for one to be soured on pro sports. The same athletes that criticize White Privilege on social media seem to forget that making more money than most of the people watching them compete puts them in a position of privilege because many fans have seen their own wages reduced or eliminated as a result of COVID-19.

You mentioned the NFL season earlier in the thread. The NFL will be allowed to have their games for sure now. I dread to see the sanctimonious attitude from the millionaire players and the sponsors telling people stuck at home without jobs that they have to "be better" to fight systemic racism.
The NFL can have all the games they want. Remains to be seen how many people will watch them. I sure won't.
I think it might have been the NFL that was the sport that can afford to have games without fans this year if push comes to shove because the money coming in from cable broadcasts deals is enough to keep the league afloat for this season. Nevertheless, I lost interest in the NFL, except maybe for the Super Bowl if the match up looks good, after the Kaepernick flap. Sports are supposed to be entertainment where all the world's troubles get put aside temporarily. Recreational entertainment doesn't feel like the time or place for making personal politics the main thrust. Support pet and personal causes off the field.

As for other sports such as the NBA and NFL, I'm not sure how well it will work for them to be sequestered in one or a limited of handful of venues. If one person gets COVID-19, the potential for everyone else to get infected seems like it might increase exponentially.

Good to know, but how long before phone operating systems decide to stealthily install those "participating apps" as well?

Edited to add:
I think it was @JosephStalin that also posted the link about Landlords suing to overturn moratoriums on evictions in California.

Here, landlords are experiencing something similar. While they're happy to show flexibility with tenants who can only pay partial rent or no rent at all if they've lost their job and haven't yet received unemployment (because the system is so bogged down with backlog), some landlords have had tenants who remain fully employed refuse to pay rent under the belief that they can't be evicted for willfully refusing to pay their rent.

Even with the willingness to be flexible as appropriate, landlords are starting to feel crunched financially when the lack of full rents means they can't cover the rental property's mortgage, taxes, and upkeep. Those tenants able but unwilling to pay full rent might thinking they're waging some sort of noble battle against evil landlords, but it would be all for naught if the lack of incoming rent leads to the landlords losing their property to foreclosure if and when they can't keep up with the mortgage or taxes.

Somebody on the day shift at work has the Wu Flu. It only happen in 4 months of this shit. They aren't closing shit.

The longer this insanity drags on, the more 2019 seems like an exotic time of ancient history, where legends like "no one had to wear those damned face masks in public", "no one knew the term social distancing", and "there were public events" were reality.

2020 sucks monkey dick.

These days, I can't help but feel paranoid that people will push for more lockdowns during new flu seasons.

I'm not trying to downplay how deadly a flu can be, I just fear the overzealous governors "protecting" us from now on.
