I've been on the "don't get fed baited" track for weeks... but honestly, if I was near Seattle right now, that Lenin statue would be gone.

For the record to be used for legal reasons, I absolutely do not condone the destruction of any statues. I firmly believe that "offensive" statues should be carried to museums as their cultural value is more important than any political reason to harm them.

That said. If, say, someone wanted to harm a statue of Lenin, or MLKJr, in revenge for the destruction of statues by Antifa and BLM, then it would be exceedingly easy to find online ways to create chemical substances which are extremely corrosive to certain kinds of metal which are the main component of such statues.

But of course I must firmly recommend no one ever does such a thing or in other ways stokes the flames of this conflict. Specially not in minecraft.

It's less what they are and more how they're doing it.

If these people said "Hey, we don't like this statue and what it represents, we want it taken down" and went through a sensible process for doing that (petitioning the local government, making arguments to the community, etc) it would be a lot less controversial. Asking for something in a calm, reasonable way is good. I may not agree with their logic, but I would approve of them going through the right channels to make it happen.

But that's not what they're doing: They're going out and saying "These statues are racist/evil/bad and that means they need to be ripped down, damn the opposition" and pulling them down themselves. There is no discussion, there is no reasonable requests- they're a mob throwing their weight around and daring anyone to stop them. It's mob-rule, and people are pissed off and scared that nothing's being done about it.

Also if they put them on museums where they belong instead of destroying them. That'd help.

Like. Junipero's whole fucking M.O. was "hearts and minds" taken to the extreme. He devoted his life to founding missions. Missions which had the only purpose of serving the locals, being funded through a mixture of donations and funding from the spanish crown. Which all had:

-Free Housing projects to ensure the locals were safe.

-Hospitals that gave free healthcare to the locals to ensure they were healthy.

-Community kitchens to ensure the locals were fed.

-Churches, which served both to convert the locals, protecting them from slavers and the less savory side of the west, and as centers of learning.

And the missions completely turned a blind eye to the weirder religious practices, instead fostering Santeria, basically teaching the locals how to abuse religious law to avoid the wrath of the puritans too.

Had this guy been a local that figured how missions work and why they were so efficient at arming the local population with all of the tools needed to peacefuly defend themselves from the worst parts of the european conquerors, he'd be a saint by now. They'd say he was the most intelligent man on earth and got his own to fight the good fight legally.

And yet. Just because he was born at the wrong side of the border. Even though the intentions were exactly those, to save as much people as possible and ensure they could oppose those who would harm them with peaceful tools. He is decried as evil. He was one of the most proficient ONG creators of his time, he single handedly managed to protect and care for thousands and gave them free healthcare, education, food and housing. Black people who are humorous and poke fun at other blacks will not be tolerated. About 25 years ago on cable there was this extremely short lived twilight zone type anthology show put out by George Clinton from P-funk. I think it got cancelled pretty fast. I remember he made one story where these aliens come to Earth to contact humans. It turns out that black people are used as currency in the solar system and these aliens make a deal with the people of earth to give them access to all their knowledge (curing disease, space travel, etc.) in exchange for letting them take all the black people off the planet as for the aliens it was like finding buried treasure.

The show ended with tons of black people on buses being bussed to all these military bases to be loaded on the spaceships.

The show was cancelled I think shortly after.
