So the total collapse of human civilization happened before Dina and Ellie were even born right? It's literally all they've known. The world has been like this for 25 years. How much could Dina realistically know about WW2 and world history? A quarter of a century is a long time for the world to go without formal education or the internet. And even if people can find books on history many of the people who knew how to use and teach that knowledge probably had their brains eaten by fungus. The average Joe just knows about the Holocaust as some Big Bad Thing that happened but couldn't tell you much of the real details. It would almost be like mythology to someone like Dina.
Which would be an interesting angle but I'm sure not what was intended.
What reason did he end up giving for Joel and Tommy being so naive? Because so far, every explanation for why a part of the story is shit has been a sign of the essential flaws of his entire approach to the game and the creative process as a whole.
How about another stupid worldbuilding nitpick. Gasoline and electricity. This is 25 years after the apocalypse and that comfy little town at the beginning has electricity. I assume the power grid is fucked so they're all running generators, indeed there's actually a couple times in the game where you have to turn on generators with pull starters. So they're running generators for a whole town on what gasoline? From where? They all ride horses to get around, presumably to save gas, but they don't seem to have do any rationing of electricity if Ellie having a lamp and her stupid chili lights on in her bedroom just so she can stay up late drawing is any indication. Then the next morning she's still got a fucking lamp in, in the day. Probably left that shit on all night.
Then there's the guy with an underground pot room. Why the FUCK would you waste all the electricity needed to run lights for an indoor grow op in the post apocalypse? Hey Druckmann, in the real world, they actually catch people running indoor grow operations sometimes just by noticing the absurdly high power usage, or using thermal cameras to detect the heat generated by the obscene number of bright lights you need.
Finally, we've got Abby's crew, who doesn't give a fuck and are driving around big Hummer style vehicles all day. Not even light motorcycles or scooters to conserve gas, fuck that. We've got infinite gas! Somehow!
"B... But Dr. Drunkmann... we have not determined the cause of past failures... snorts"
"Manbaby! This video game sequel will be my flagship and it will lead my future titles of wahmen superiority to world domination! This time, I shall reign triumphant!"
(Later in the publishing department...)
"We are closer than ever before! Quickly, into the Metacritic!"
"But Dr. Drunkmann...! snorts T-the review stage is n-not ready! We have no idea what it could do!"
(Review scores from users come in low.)
"Failure again! Capture the bots!"
Oh they will comer for the PC Games eventually
and don't forget piracy as well, PC has so many ways to get around copy protection it's insaneThey tried, but Gaben refuse to kneel it doesnt help that the PC Gaming communities have more ways (like discussions) to say "go fuck yourself your dangerhair cunt", you dont get that in consoles i mean we got two lolcows that tried to infect the PC market and went as well as you could expect
They might get the energy from windmills (My friend's home has one, an old farm one at that, and it pretty much powers their entire property.) or water wheels. They could also be using biofuel for any vehicles or machinery they might use since beleive it can run in regular engines. Even then, they'd still probably have to ration their electricity and fuel just to be on the safe side and rely more on oil lamps and candles than fairy lights.Given that oil refineries and similar run on "just in time" delivery, the moment mushroom zombie plague hits, everyone's going to be panic-buying fuel. As a student I spent a summer working on a petrol station and when the rumour was that the price was to hit £1.00/l next week, everyone panic-bought us dry. As in, they filled up, then filled up multiple jerry cans each, until we ran out and had to cone the place off.
In fact, I would expect to see fuel reserves dry up within days of the initial outbreak.
Also, where are they getting that fuel from? Operating an oil well is quite a specialised job. It's not something any twat can do. If it's biodiesel, then every square yard being grown for biomass to distill into biodiesel is not being grown for food and we already established that food should be at a premium in mushroom zombie world because it of necessity involves growing or killing stuff to eat, and that in turn means being out of doors and out of shouting distance from anyone else should infected or marauders attack.
Solar panels are right out by the way. The rare earth metals needed in photovoltaic cells are something you can only obtain with a modern industrial society. They're deep in the ground and rare and require pretty advanced chemistry to extract and lots of energy.
Because Ellie, in the first game, was just the MacGuffin. Its impossible, Ellen is just not interesting. I dont know if thats because of how she was written, because of the lack of chemistry with other characters around her or if maybe she was never truly interesting on her own (my cynical side is believing its this one).
Maybe Druckmann watched The Walking Dead while writing this moisturepiece. Finally, we've got Abby's crew, who doesn't give a fuck and are driving around big Hummer style vehicles all day. Not even light motorcycles or scooters to conserve gas, fuck that. We've got infinite gas! Somehow!
Plus, human children almost rival with dogs in terms of how we perceive their innocence. I think one trend I'd find disturbing is if people would value the life of a child less than a dog. That way of disbehaving is like a kid being a little shit. It's cute and often in god nature. A child can be deceitful but their kind of deceit isn't as malicious as an adult's. It also helps that, on average, animals like dogs are cuter than adults and thus humans want to protect them more.
There's a video where it's apparently explained why Tommy and Joel are written to throw all caution to the wind and invite this group of armed strangers to restock at their settlement, and offer not only their first and last names, but their relationship as well.
Which has been repeatedly said by people familiar with the first game is extremely out of character, especially for Joel, as it goes against things he specifically said and did in the first game.
"The Last of Us" would make a great anthology title; every game should've just focused on different groups/characters trying to survive. Make references to the other characters in the series loosely (easter eggs or something) and focus on the clickers. If they make a part 3, I'd rather the game just outright abandoned the characters and use a brand new cast. Maybe have it set like say months acter the outbreak and show society collapsing
It's a fun concept but I never saw it executed correctly. Shame because it has potential for some great scenarios as people try to adjust to a new and deadly worldIf they make a part 3, I'd rather the game just outright abandoned the characters and use a brand new cast. Maybe have it set like say months after the outbreak and show society collapsing
It also makes me see the good writing in TLOU was barely owned to Cuckmann himself but rather his co-writers and other members of the crew restraining his woke autism
