Lucas did not choose homelessness. It was just in the cards, because he is a worthless shit and nobody likes him.

If by some chance lucas's father married a zoomer lucas would be utterly furious. it's pretty clear Lucas doesn't understand government via his screed on how he thinks an NWO would work, but even in this microcosm, the idea of inheriting debt via property taxes, or property having attachments to it like liens or something isn't even crossing his mind. neither is the costs associated with yearly taxes, maintenance, et c.

assuming Lucas inherits something in 20 years (as he said something along those lines) it would mean he would have zero work experience, zero skills, no work history, inability to maintain the property, inability to pay for upkeep or taxes, he would likely no longer be eligible for SSA (he probably isn't already, only SSDI, and that's very limited, so he's likely just getting TANF and SNAP and whatever other programs are available) or his other benefits.

a 50+ year old no job, no life, no skill with a piece of mediocre property he can't/won't maintain, can't/won't afford, and zero ability to realize that he would actively have debts on that property. if not immediately then at most a year out from it. that's also assuming there's no attachments either.

Lucas leans into talking about his inheritance because it is the only way he will ever be able to improve his lot in life. Granted, he'll still be a fat, creepy, rapidly aging old fuck, but at least he'll have some capitol to work with. He has absolutely no prospects (and never has) and neither the ambition nor the intelligence to make a better life for himself. His inheritance is his only shot of avoiding spending the rest of his life bouncing back and forth between homeless shelters, the streets, and (eventually and unavoidably) jail in the same way he spent his 20's in and out of mental institutions, and I think he knows this deep down or else he wouldn't kick the can down the road, looking forward to something that won't happen for a decade presumably. It almost makes me sad. Imagine being a parent and working your whole life so you can have something to pass down to your children after you're gone, and then Lucas blows it all immediately on gas station junk food and thrice daily gourmet meals for one and having nothing to show for it.

On a much lighter note, I think the next episode in this saga will be his eventual dismissal and ban from HoC, so we have that to look forward to. I bet it gets real cold in Spokane in the winter.

A fitting end to the Wern saga would be his parents do leave him money... but it is given to a ward who is responsible for using the money to put Lucas into a facility for the rest of his natural born life and he never actually sees a dime of it himself. This would be the most merciful outcome for him. But in reality, I don’t think he will see a penny and the money will go to his brother who he always envied and Lucas goes an extra shade of insane because of it.

Having consulted my actuarial tables, you're right.

Lucas will lose approximately 9 years of life expectancy to diabetes, around 15 to schizophrenia, and up to 20 to obesity. These are cautious estimates that do not take into account the full nature of his abysmal health.

In other words, Lucas doesn't have the decades he plans to wait for his parents to die and shower him with great riches.

In fact, he may not even meet his self imposed suicide date of November 27, 2035.
