World of Warcraft Rank 1 Player Reckful Commits Suicide

Destiny, who knew Reckful on a personal level, recently streamed his thoughts on the matter

Tl;dw
  • Reckful was always depressed and rarely had ups
  • People who knew reckful knew "it was a matter of time" before this happened
  • Reckful was unbearable to be around. People who say otherwise are lying
  • He took shrooms and other psychedelics daily. Destiny claims that this and making his mmo were the only time he was "happy"
  • Blaming Becca is stupid. She shouldn't blame herself.
  • Reckful offered to pay for Destiny and his gf to move in to an apartment upstairs. this happened in April.
  • The apartment was around 10 grand. Reckful was more than willing to cover expenses. He was just super lonely.
  • Quarantine did a number on his mental health. Destiny said reckful needed constant interaction with other people.
  • Reckful likely attempted suicide multiple times.
  • the last 3 years have been incredibly difficult for reckful

It's telling that the people who knew him best/longest/are the same age as him/etc aren't the ones crying over him.

However he explains Reckful as simply depressed rather than bipolar which is a big difference and would change all his graphs, e.g. his baseline would probably be normal but with wild swings up and down and the reason other people said he was fun to be around was because they met him during the manic highs.

I really don't get this lonely aspect everyone repeats? It seems like Reckful had 10x more friends than normal so he couldn't have literally been lonely and if you're depressed simply being around people doesn't make you happy, you just tune them out like everything else. This loneliness thing seems like something else? Was he just bored? It seems like 99% of streamers have no hobbies.

Also fair play to Destiny for admitting the drugs probably aren't the best fix and he would personally focus on diet, sleep, and exercise.

Destiny is also an insanely irresponsible person who makes money yelling at people on the internet and pretending he's smart so I'd take anything he says with a grain of salt

Bipolar can come with anxiety, as well, and psychosis. It's possible in his head at times he had no one because his brain was telling him he had no one. Have had patients that I knew had tons of social support tell me they had no one at times. Reality is whatever that person ins percieving, not always what is in fact real. Also, the social isolation caused by Covid has led to an increase in suicidal behavior because its triggering disorders that were latent or untreated. It's rather impossible to get help at moment in certain states unless you already were booked with a mental health clinic.

Response from Becca, the ex he proposed to: https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sra64l

He went to Japan for a month or two on a whim (where he met her) and did almost daily IRL streams. Felt like you really got to know the dude to be honest. Got some feels right now.
Hilarious response. I love when the reason a person anheros is the one calling for 'public awareness' and 'increased mental health support'.
He killed himself b/c you dumped him and was about to #MeToo him.
Now I gotta pay more taxes.

Men suicide, women most affected.

  • Dr K is absolutely devastated. Pretty hard to watch if youre a moralfag
  • He tried really hard to help reckful. Reckful obviously didn't accept his help
  • Reckfuls depression stemmed from his older brother an hero'ing
  • The MMO he was making was more like a passion project to fill the void that his brother left behind
  • The game was suppose to be more based on social interactions

I get that, but at least for me you figure out your depressive thoughts aren't actually what's making you depressed. They're something to put on your to-do list but they're not the cause of your episode. It's a common mistake when you're younger.

So my question is more how did he make it to 31 and not figure this out? If he felt lonely but having all these friends didn't help it then why didn't he learn to ignore those thoughts and try something else?

Ultimately it might be the fact that he was super successful young and had nothing left to work towards that did him in. He wasn't just a successful streamer, he apparently got REALLY rich (people seem to assume he was the richest streamer) by investing his streamer profits well. I actually first heard of him through this funny story where an interior decorator scammed him out of $15k for curtains:

Sadly not everyone is able to learn how to change their thoughts and fight through them. Just like drinking you can't change someone who is not willing or able to change.

Why... why do people stutter like that? Its a fucking tweet.

Some people are better at compartmentalizing their feelings from their situation than others.

Also, it's not outside of the realm of possibility that he had racing thoughts about his feelings of loneliness/worthlessness and it was just too hard for him to ignore them. A lot of times, bipolar people that suddenly switch from depression to mania suddenly are feeling more energetic and productive, but they're still dealing with the negative emotions. Sense of worthlessness + sudden urge to "do things" = suicidal ideation. Granted, you should know after your first "bad" episode that this is the time you call the hospital before you do something dumb, but...people can be stubborn about those things.

World of warcraft notoriously has one of the worst communities you can find online, and it makes me roll my eyes when blizzard has done shit all to really qualm it except for their 'no bullying : ((( ' campaign they did with overwatch. not saying that the WoW community is to blame, but man having to put yourself in that spotlight for that community after so many years doesn't really help with the added mental health problems the dude already seemed to have. Hell, even just sound minded people say "fuck that" after just dealing with it for a bit and then back away from the game entirely

I hope all his affected friends and family can find peace sooner rather than later, shits not easy to deal with
Is it really that bad? I've never noticed it and I've been semi-steady playing since WOTLK

He was just weak. Defective.
Even worms have a self-preservation instinct.

I got no sympathy for the suicidal. At best I'm hoping for some kind of "point proving" shock value suicide a la Budd Dwyer to analyze and laugh at.
'Haha bro like just stop being mentally ill haha!'

Mega servers have streamers and their mega guilds filled with fans on them. It’s a huge thorn in people sides. Asmongold before he did a face turn would purposely destroy servers by swarming them with his retarded viewers.
Asmongold's face turn has been kino.

Keep in mind that divers have to recover your corpse if you an hero off of a bridge. If you've ever seen that one tub soup picture - a razor blade suicide in a filled bathtub that wasn't found until she began to liquefy - then you know what being submerged will do to an decomposing body. Don't be the asshole that makes a diver have to get up close and personal with that. Water also does a lot of trauma when fallen into from a considerable height. IIRC Etika had severe head trauma from impact with the water.

No method of suicide is clean. Blowing your brains out with a shotgun is a very messy affair but so is a sleeping pill overdose that goes unnoticed for a few weeks.
Talk about your problems instead of making the guy who earns $10.50/hr pressure wash what remains of you off the sidewalk.
How horrifying.

I wonder if all Psychiatrists get this emotional when someone they tried to help ends themselves. Must be a depressing profession.

Whenever Reckful's out of the room, everyone else should be asking "where's Reckful?"

This isn't uncommon and ultimately says little about his personal character. Some people die very slowly, others very quickly- they can come across as "unbearable" if they've simply given up on being the person you liked to be around, no matter how pleasant they can be otherwise.
When somebody shrivels up, but keeps breathing, people don't wait to make their peace. The best way to get a feel for that is working with those near end-of-life for terminal diseases or the elderly, but there's a reason those fields have a very high turnover rate.

  • Reckfuls depression stemmed from his older brother an hero'ing
On that note: suicide clusters are a real problem. If someone has had a family member or friend commit suicide on them, recent or distant, keep watch. It fucks with the psyche on a very basic level. It's a small miracle Etika didn't accidentally start a minor streamer holocaust, actually.

I'm not feeling it fully. Seems like he's been working himself up. It's also possible of course that I have the EQ of a week old piece of shit, I dunno.

People who put their "sooper sad uwu" face in the thumbnails about some tragedy dont understand how fucking disingenuous that is. Wonder if the fruit monetized it too.
it's done on purpose for the smaller thumbnail view.
