Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

It's bad enough having to wear a mask in the middle of Summer, I can't imagine how much worse goggles would be.

Fuck all the goalpost shifting, at this rate we'll be shutting shit down again and causing a new depression.
That's been their plan ever since they realized they could use this to gut the economy and fuck over the wrongthinkers. Lockdowns will be the October surprise.

It's doubly convenient that autumn happens to be the natural flu season, so literally all they'd have to do is add regular flu instances to the numbers and bingo, instant spike in cases everywhere with zero effort to facilitate Lockdown 2: Perpetual Edition.

I think the second spikes during autumn will only appear in places that had the first spikes end a couple months past. Florida cases are already going down (but I want to wait until next week to post data in this topic) so I'm betting this critical second spike will only be seen in places like NY, Chicago, Boston, etc. In other words, blue strongholds. I think the media and establishment is blowing their loads too early on this stuff to make Trump look bad now instead of thinking what might look bad in three months.

You're missing the point. I'm not talking about actual spikes. They've already, repeatedly, been proven to "fudge" numbers to make the virus more scary than it really is, so it's entirely in the realm of possibility that they'd use the numbers of a completely unrelated virus to bolster numbers to fearmonger as much as possible and bring about a second, even more severe lockdown than last time so mail-in voting (aka the easiest method to fraud) will become mandatory.

Autumn is going to be a total shitshow between the COVID sperging and the election season.

What worries me about COVID is less the virus itself (though it would probably suck balls to get sick from it), but the way the narrative keeps shifting along with the goalposts, and how any inconsistencies in the narrative that have been repeatedly pointed out are immediately hand-waved away, forgotten, or ignored.

Like the fact that the shutdown was initially "temporary" to make sure hospitals weren't overcrowded, but now it's morphed into this bizarre, sanctimonious "new normal" with no clear end date and a consistent "let's wait and see" refrain, Let's wait and see until....when, exactly? The virus is never fully going away, as is true of most diseases and risks humans deal with but ultimately don't obsess over 24/7.

People are also constantly sperging on the socials about how they'll never go to concerts/restaurants/fairs ever ever again because it's "too dangerous," which seems asinine, as humans have been existing in large groups for centuries without going totally extinct.

The moral panic and blaming and shaming over social distancing/masks/people not following arbitrary and ever-changing "rules and guidelines" have also been fascinating to watch, from people accusing others of "killing their family" by going for walks outside, to suggesting some have "weak moral character" for wanting to go do simple things like have a beer and socialize. I've also seen lots of shaming around people wanting gyms back in regions where they're closed ("You can just run around your block!" is a common refrain), when wanting gyms back seems to be a very reasonable concern, especially since so many gyms are smaller businesses at risk of going defunct, regular exercise keeps people mentally and physically fit, and this arbitrary lockdown keeps getting extended until infinity.

Looks like the COVID-1984 uniform of choice will be pool goggles and a bandana.
"Safer" never won't sound like complete cyberpunk dystopian shit like Demolition Man. It boggles my mind that anyone can read shit like "safe start" and "social distancing" without making those connections.
Because it is dystopic. That's why there's billboards and signs everywhere with messages from popular businesses and local sports teams that amount to "Citizen, wear your mask!" alongside encouraging social distancing and constant ad campaigns celebrating medical workers. There is functionally little difference between these ad campaigns and the public propaganda of a totalitarian state. It's just like going to North Korea and seeing pictures of the Kims everywhere, being told to do your duty for the benefit of the Korean people, and seeing the Korean People's Army being glorified every step of the way. As I've said before, the goal is to spread fear (for North Korea it's the evil imperialists and counter-revolutionaries, for us it's the virus that will kill grandma and probably you too), present the state as the salvation to that fear (for North Korea it's the Kims and Korean People's Army, for us it's the politicians keeping us safe and the doctors and nurses), and make believers feel good about following the propaganda and thus browbeat and shame others into obeying it.

Similar tactics have been used in advertising and PR for over a century and there's probably a book to write about how this is the first pandemic in history that had to be advertised and sold to the public.

Sometimes I really feel like we're living in the novel 1984, like this book I've always loved is now coming to life in very visceral ways. It's utterly fascinating and a great example of how easily swayed and directed the general public is, and how if we have a justified "moral reason" for doing something (like you said, a "do your duty for the benefit of the people") coupled with cosmic terror from constant fear-mongering, people can be made to do just about anything and convince themselves they are in the right, even if there are glaring inconsistencies in data and red flags abound.

That, of course, is not to say the virus doesn't exist, but it's funny how if you point out the inconsistencies you get labelled a "conspiracy theorist," when I'd wager most rational/critical-thinking types have been noticing the inconsistencies and oddities all along.

I've been saying since early March that the masks are eerie and conjure dystopian vibes, as is socially isolating people to the point where they start to lose their sanity.

True, but one thing to ponder...and I know this is astronomically unlikely if not outright impossible, but what if a vaccine is officially released (or at least officially announced) before or around October?

Think about it, that would be the kind of thing that would take the wind out of the DNC's sails and would sink the lockdown narratives faster than the Lusitania. If they still insist on COVID-19 lockdowns after a vaccine has been created, that's the thing that even the most NPC of normies will see and call them out on.

It's the same as after 9/11. Wearing a mask, social distancing, and 1/4 capacity businesses is security theater in the same way waiting in a TSA line for half an hour to go take your shoes off, scan your luggage, get patted down by the TSA, and confiscate your bottled water. Anyone who said that was stupid and didn't actually help stop terrorism was unpatriotic since it was tantamount to supporting terrorism. And you better not protest how the TSA is receiving billions upon billions of dollars from the government, or how we're jacking up the military's budget by tens of billions to go shoot illiterate goatfuckers in the name of stopping terrorism. That's utterly disrespectful to the victims of 9/11 and the soldiers who've died bringing freedom to the illiterate goatfuckers and is the perfect use of your tax money.

These people are masters at shifting the goalposts and totally ignoring their long history of failed predictions and proclamations, so you better believe they'll shift the goalposts yet again, and to some degree they're already prepping for it with "you can catch COVID-19 twice". A vaccine will suddenly be "we might not have the capacity to make enough vaccines for everyone, so stay in your pod we do," or "the disease might mutate and counter this vaccine, so stay in your pod so grandma's new vaccine isn't useless." And then when everyone has their vaccine, it becomes "this disease has mutated again, we need to shut it all down again until we've made a new vaccine, do your duty and stay in your pod."

I know that, but this clamped down social distancing is a bridge too far even for a "New Normal" and even the bigwigs have to know this.

Post-9/11, the TSA became the new normal but it was only a nuisance for people that did air travel.

But this is more or less affecting everyone in the country and is far more debilitating on a psychological and economic level, it cannot be sustained long-term without a complete and total breakdown.

This "new normal" lockdown shit is a political bargaining tool, and it will likely end by November, no matter who wins the election. Given how the MSM is, I wouldn't be surprised if a vaccine is announced and the narrative shifts yet again in the event of a Biden win.

If Trump somehow wins, then the lockdowns will loosen up slowly and mainly linger in the blue strongholds for a little longer until the economic burden becomes too much for these states

They tested the Moderna 2-dose vaccine on some non-human primates. Possibly those protestors getting vanned in Portland. They challenged these primates with the virus four weeks after the second shot, and their immune system knocked it out in a couple days. There was limited or no viral replication in the upper or lower airways, meaning the virus couldn't be transmitted easily. And there were "no pathologic changes" noted in their lungs, other than being ripped out and chopped up by the researchers. Phase III trials, on actual people, are just starting now. Data collection will run for 25 months.

If you're in a place where masks have been made legally mandatory and you don't/can't outright disobey, my recommendation is to use a bandanna tied like an old cowboy mask. The pros:

  1. Super easy to breathe in because the material is thin and it's open at the top and bottom
  2. To my fellow glasses wearers: it doesn't make your glasses fog up
  3. Studies have found that the bandanna is almost useless in terms of stopping respiratory jets, so it's secretly malicious compliance to the law
  4. You get to look like a cool old timey bandit instead of a 2020 earloop mask wearing soy
