Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

Hello!

I am a PhD student at the University of Toronto within the Faculty of Information. My background is in History and I have completed my Masters in Library and Information Science.

I am currently researching the documentation and archival process that has taken place during the first decade of the 21st century (from 2001-2010) in regards to what i like to term as the "Golden Age of Internet Trolling" before it became more widespread than before and had warped into something else. I am particularly motivated of learning the concept and reasoning behind such a process.

I have known about Christopher (or Christine if you prefer) Chandler in the early 2000s but have never participated and only watched from the sidelines. It is only when I began my PhD research that I remembered the Chris-Chan was one of the prime candidates within this "Golden Age" and through my digging in both the CWCwiki and other places, I came across this forum.

I was wondering if it is still possible to connect and have a short discussion (Q&A mostly, some descriptive outlines) with a number of people who were active in this area? While I realize that some (such as BlueSpike) would be disinclined to interview due to their own actions, I feel it would still be worthwhile to connect to them in an attempt to understand their process and their background when trying to approach this topic.

Any help would be appreciated in this matter. As per the FAQ I am also tagging ( @The American Hedgehog, @Karen Riley, @Marvin, @Alec Benson Leary, and @yawning sneasel ) in an effort to get their help.

Thank you!
get out when you still can bruh. Chris is a rabbit hole that consumes you, just when you thought you were out... it pulls you back in!

Anyone can come here and claim to be a PhD student, bruh.

If you want anyone to take you seriously and deliver the goods, we’d need a little more than that.

May I suggest tracking down Megan Schroeder IRL and posting her noodz in this thread.

I promise you, you’ll have our undivided attention then.

Has Chris ever played Halo? Back in the 00's during Halo's peak popularity he only seemed to play Pokemon and Sonic despite being a massive Playstation faggot, so he probably never touched an Xbox back then.

It seems he missed out on a lot of the cooler mainstream media stuff stretching all the way back to the 80s. Recently I think it was revealed he never watched Predator(1987), and speaking of the 80s I've never seen him mention Terminator, Alien, Aliens, Blade Runner. Which means he also missed out on the era when stores would sell action figures from R-rated movies. I've never seen him reference Eddie Murphy's Raw and Delirious, which is a bit odd as Eddie was huge in the 80s. He was never too into violent media, instead watching Sailor Moon and My Little Pony.

He said he liked one or two of the Saw movies, which is kind of an enigma considering what we know. He was ever into FPS games either, a fan once sent him Half-Life 2 which he threw to the side because he doesn't like PC gaming. I suppose it's possible Borb kept him from these kind of things too.

Chris had a longstanding hatred for the HexBox for no reason other than it wasn't Nintendo. Hell he was anti-Sony until he had his beloved PS3; before that he was vehemently against the PS2 (there's a Sonichu News Dash where he claims the Xbox and PS2 "stink on ice"). Given that he hated consoles he never owned, I doubt he ever touched Halo because it wasn't on anything he approved of.

You know what’s kind of a shame? That Chris’s trolls never got round to trying to pair him up with a True and Honest sweetheart... Who smokes tobaccy!

I’m genuinely curious about how Chris would have navigated his China thirst vs his strong dislike of cigarettes.

Yes, we all know how he went back on his high and mighty principles and started to drink the devils drink, but Chris’s dislike of smoking was always deeper seated and much more autistic. (As in: Autistic people often have a strong dislike of particular scents and flavors.)

So what do you all think?

Would:

Chris put his foot down and demand she quit smoking before they meet in person?

Stress sigh away until he got a halfassed promise she would try to quit?

“Go-good news sweetheart! I had an dream last night where God told me it’s.. *sigh* That I should take you as my sweetheart irregarding of... Hmm... Your...Tabaccy habit!”

The debate rages on and on about Chris going to regular public school vs. a school for special needs children, but can you imagine how much worse he would have turned out if he had been homeschooled?

Depends... Is it Bob or Barb who’s in charge of the curriculum?

Let me rephrase that. Would it be Bob in charge of the curriculum or would it be Barb trying to catch some ZZZs in between putting on “educational” cartoon show/game?

In some small respects he might have come out.... Different. (Better is such a weird word to use in regards to CWC)

For example, his phobia to other men and preference form”galpals” might not have been as pronounced.

I feel like 90% of Halo fans first contact with Halo was playing it at a friend's house. Countless hours of split screen fun with friends taking turns after someone dies etc. There always a fucker screening, but denying it. But.......Chris doesn't have any friends back in school, so all he plays are single player kiddy games.

Plus I think it’s safe to say that his parents were in charge of buying games at least until he was 18 if not older.

One of the (few) charming things about Chris was how old he was at heart. Hearing Chris talk about pop culture was sometimes like talking to your grandpa.

His love for shows like I Love Lucy, Red Skelton, Snoopie... Basically shit that even people twice Chris’s age might consider grandpa-tier cringe or not know at all, was a funny side effect of being raised by two AARP members.

This. Back in high school I was the only one in my circle of friends who owned an Xbox in addition to PS2 and Gamecube and every time my friends came over they always wanted to play some Halo, so we always played a shit ton of split screen back in the Halo 1 days.

I think a big reason why Chris never got into FPS games like Halo, Counterstrike and Half Life was because those games weren't "kid-friendly", as in they weren't filled with bright vivid colors and simplistic gameplay like Sonic and Pokemon, not to mention Chris never really played any vidya on the PC besides that obscure 90's Lego game.

It's strange knowing all the Cartoon's influences on Chris but i always questioning a specific one:
If he watches ATLA, he gonna understand?

I know Chris loves Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog but what's his Take on the CastleVania Series?

He could probably beat the 3d "god of war clone" ones. You don't need to be a super genius to beat the classic ones but those do take a lot of patience and i doubt he even has the perseverance to go past one level.

But now i am thinking. Does he even beat Pokemon and Sonic games though? or does he play like a 4 year old just sperging around the levels without ever doing anything but still being mesmerized by the games?

One time both DSP and Chris streamed the same game, and DSP was on easy mode, and DSP completely got his ass kicked while Chris won the level.

Not sure, When Play a Game I grind make the rest of the game icing while getting difficult characters. He wouldn't even get past the 1st Levels.

This reminded me that Chris once streamed (Although he forgot to plug in his fucking mic) himself playing the intro mission to Destiny. As someone who has wasted ungodly amounts of time in Destiny and FPS games in general, I physically cringed watching Chris play. He slowly meanders from room to room, constantly pulling out his Ghost to either check his waypoints or just pulling him out whenever he starts talking. I don't think I saw him hipfire once in the entire video, and he has no sense of recoil control to the point his screen shoots up to the ceiling whenever he fires a shotgun. He only sprinted or crouched when prompted, opting instead to slowly walk across the level. He spent about five seconds trying to line up a head shot on a fucking dreg, only for it to take about half his health because Chris was trying to shoot it from another room and he couldn't control the recoil after the initial shot. He constantly tried to melee enemies despite them clearly being out of melee range, so he'd just awkwardly walk towards them while spamming his melee. When he got the alert he leveled up and unlocked a subclass ability, he spent a grand total of about 10 seconds exploring his subclass chart before getting bored. The worst part was the "boss" fight with the Fallen captain. Chris has no idea how shields work in Destiny so he tries chipping away at the captain's shield with small bursts from far away because he still doesn't know how to control his recoil, only for the captain to strafe behind cover and regen his shield while Chris just stand around like a retard. An enemy which even the least skilled of players could kill in less than five seconds took Chris almost a minute. On the bright side, I didn't have to listen to whatever God awful commentary Chris was spewing.

You make a great point there, and it got me thinking of it from another angle. When you're kids, up to early teens, the world's a mystery you start to quickly uncover. Normally you learn the risque details of life from your friends in school, and whispering on the playground. Be it an amazing action movie, a new album, or even what sexual phrases exist, there's usually a similar-aged scholar among your friends. Before you know it, all the ten year olds are dropping their favorite movie quotes, claiming they had 'foreplay' last night, and calling each other faggot without knowing what the word means.

Chris doesn't have this. What did he talk about to his gal pals? I can imagine the girls talking sex, drugs, rock n roll, politics, clothes, and cars, and Chris just sitting there, oblivious, or trying to force the dialogue to Pokemon, or I Love Lucy.

How was he so impervious to culture in school? You get bullied if you enjoy The Love Boat or Gilligan's Island when the other 80s kids are watching Rambo. Surely you learn and feign interest even if its just for camouflage.

Castlevania
I can see him shouting at the household cats and dogs after failing to ascend the clock tower, getting lost navigating the ingame map, and all together being confused by what the game represents. If a platforming experience themed around European Gothic horror were to interest Chris, we'd have seen it in his comics and cards by now. The only thing that might appeal to Chris is the idea of finding cooked chicken in wall cavities. Then again, the upside down SOTN castle may have been inspired by Chris's CADD work, and his drawings of CWCville''s geography.

Yeah I can figure out Chris and Their Awkward Chats. Till Chris Mentions Sonic or Pokemon.
