Jesus Christ there were some dreadful cunts on SomethingAwful before I left. There was one guy who claimed, no irony or exaggeration, that there were only two political viewpoints - his own personal views, and actual swastikas-and-genocide Fascism. Whether you were in fact a White Nationalist or just another Communist with a slightly different view on collectivising agriculture to him, nope you're a Fascist. He said that the idea of nuance or a political spectrum was "toxic" and anyone who thought there were maybe three or more political philosophies ought to "take a politics class before they embarrass themselves." Huh, I have a degree in Political Philosophy and it turns out there are, in fact, several political positions. Quite a few in fact, there are long boring books written about them all. But nope, my professors must have been Fascists too apparently. You know, the Fascism infesting academia that you hear about. How that person got through life surrounded by Nazis I've no idea - I guess he didn't leave his room or he might catch Fascism from the cat or something. There's plenty of people like that on SA of course, but he stood out by being particularly smug, obnoxious and belligerent.
There was a user called poptart_fairy iirc who would search the forums daily looking for any new use of the word "tranny", then abseil into the thread and try to cancel the thoughtcrime, whining, shitting up the thread, and reporting anyone who pushed back against them. On more than one occasion this included discussions of automobile transmissions. I didn't interact with them much myself, but they never posted anything positive or informative, they just tried to get people banned for saying the wrong words regardless of context. Which is ironic, because "Fairy" in UK English is less-than-complimentary slang for an effeminate homosexual. A slur in every post!
There was another user who would search even the most obscure subforums looking to pick political fights with people. I once mentioned offhandedly that I thought the free market may be the best solution to an engineering problem (I think it may have been the car subforum), and the one-man rapid response autism squad burst into action, and I was greeted with a literal 2000-word sperg-out about how I was wrong and stupid and a Nazi, probably. My post was maybe 20 words long.
Oh and there's the user here who PM'd me a gigantic and incomprehensible essay about "Big Pharma" because I posted something about the NHS. Not the worst, but worrying. Get help.
