Still, some districts are willing to try in-person learning, a hybrid of in-person and virtual learning, or surveying parents to see wha they prefer and respond accordingly.

I still think there's a chance we might actually see a governor dragged out of a state capital by an angry mob, I just don't know that it'll be Whitmer.

If something happens to Whitmer, Lt. Governor Gilchrist gets the position, and he seems big enough on race and identity politics that Whtimer seems to be the lesser of two evils.

All I know is Biden's ads have been saying nation wide mask mandates.

If Trump were to propose or even enact this, states -- especially those with Democratic governors -- would complain about his imposing mandatory nationwide mask use being a violation of states' rights or a solution where the problem can't necessarily be solved with a "one size fits all" approach because COVID concerns for a state such as New York are much different than say Montana or Idaho. When an idea is judged good or bad based on the political affiliation of the person behind it, can we really trust that judgement?

I've got a relative who gave me an asthma inhaler. When people approach me bitching about having no mask on, I whip it out and tell them that I have asthma and they quickly apologize. This must be what cops feel when they flash a badge. It's awesome.

It's been a month since I started using this technique. In the last week I've had more customers in stores telling me I need to wear a mask because of local laws. Depending on their politeness level I'll respond with either "I have asthma and can't wear a mask" or "You need to mind your own fucking business". All of the employees have been nothing but nice to me.

You can buy a Primatene Mist inhaler over the counter if you want to try this technique yourself. I'm 99% sure that the average person won't know the difference between that and a prescription Albuterol inhaler just from looking at it.

Yesterday, as I was helping open up the store, I decided when no one was around to take off my mask.

It felt amazing. Even being in the restrooms I found how much I missed all the different smells each area of the store had.

Then I saw another employee walking around without a mask. Part of me was kinda happy I wasn't alone in this kind of thinking.

That evening I was feeling lazy, so I ordered some uber eats. The bag the food came in had stickers saying "Aren't you glad you stayed inside?" and "Going out is overrated anyway." which kept the bag sealed. Jesus fuck the companies aren't even trying to hide the fact they're attempting to indoctrinate people into this "new normal".

I guess what I'm trying to say is, this whole thing is depressing. Preaching to the choir I know, but I just want people to know that you aren't alone. I'm not sure how long this will last, or even if it will end, but never, EVER give in to despair. That's what these fuckers want. Even if it's just small things, just keep finding ways to LIVE.

to be fair, chances of someone sneezing/coughing/spiting in my face while talking are much higher. rubbing your eye with your fingers is always a retarded idea, corona or not, hence you use the back of your finger if you can't wash your hands first.
it's one of the reasons why I'm actually ok with masks when used properly. as much as it may annoy me, the people who know how it works also know it protects them, and vice versa.

the biggest issue is not everybody knows (thanks to the media) and either think it's ultimate protection and/or is ok with wearing one in places where it makes zero fucking sense. keeping your distance does the same fucking thing, so wearing it outside while staying away from people is just stupid. wearing it inside alone in your house or your car even more so.

there's also the long-term effect. once people figure out this shit is all a big nothingburger the time we actually need masks people will be much more reluctant to do so.

in uber eats defense people staying inside and just ordering food props up their business quite a bit. I'd be more concerned when you hear it from restaurants and shops that need the foot traffic.

Texas is faring reasonably well, at least from a virus standpoint. Houston hospitals briefly dipped into sustainable surge capacity around mid july, but Corona hospitalizations have been steeply declining throughout late July and August. The rolling average of deaths per day is around 1-200 deaths per day statewide and slowly going down. The boomers in charge of counting tests are apparently severely bottlenecked in how many tests they can test per day even after a software upgrade. As a result, there's a massive backlog of positive tests pending assignment to specific counties, and each one assigned is treated as a new case on the day that it is processed. As a consequence, the test positivity rate is inflated to ridiculous amounts. The kicker? The governor is using that positivity rate as a bellweather for when reopening can resume.

I expected more pharmacists, just ones in management. I didn't expect the top position to be a lawyer. But the board was picked by our governor and he currently has a lawyer running our health department.

I guess it's more that I wasn't surprised, just disappointed.
