Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I don't really see it lasting that long unless theyl government wants to tank the economy that badly
Never forget that it took 13 years for them to repeal prohibition. I can see a lot of speakeasy gyms and other businesses popping up, but I think we'll only be free of this totalitarian nightmare in the 2030s. This decade will be a wash, unfortunately. Once given, power is insanely difficult to take away from the government. *sigh*

State feds and cops couldn't do shit to stop the Fourth of July, what makes you think they'd be able to stop Halloween?
Maybe not the feds and cops, but the normies have become EXTREMELY pozzed even from a month ago. Like I said, public opinion has failed us as not only has the majority just rolled over and allowed the government to take complete control over what we can and can't do in public, but they've been conditioned to bark at anyone who doesn't and snitch them out.

It's something I've said a long while ago, but the whole mask thing is a symbol of power through fear. It keeps the fear of Corona-chan on everyone's minds because it serves as a constant reminder.

I remember a month ago the media kept going on about how bad things were in Arizona, Florida, and Texas and how Texas hospitals were overflowing with patients and rapidly hitting capacity, and now they're talking about kids getting sick at school and how dangerous going to school is. So what happened in those states? Are the streets full of dead bodies, murdered by Donald Trump and the Republican governors? Why is the media leaving me hanging like that?
a piece of cloth does fuck all to protect you, unless you wear a full on respirator that doesn't just block "enough" of it, it filters all of it. that's the whole fucking point.

stop being stupid.
You also need to wear your goggles too since touching your face in any way can also cause you to contract the Chinese virus.

Uhoh ppl are pulling out of our schools that refuse to open.
Here, it seems like the opposite is true. Many parents are skittish about sending their kids back, and teachers are equally skittish about being in classrooms.

The Detroit Federation of Teachers authorized a safety strike should the union not get its demands met for teacher safety.

(Archive: Detroit Teachers Safety Strike)

Still, some districts are willing to try in-person learning, a hybrid of in-person and virtual learning, or surveying parents to see wha they prefer and respond accordingly.

I still think there's a chance we might actually see a governor dragged out of a state capital by an angry mob, I just don't know that it'll be Whitmer.
If something happens to Whitmer, Lt. Governor Gilchrist gets the position, and he seems big enough on race and identity politics that Whtimer seems to be the lesser of two evils. *sigh*

All I know is Biden's ads have been saying nation wide mask mandates.
If Trump were to propose or even enact this, states -- especially those with Democratic governors -- would complain about his imposing mandatory nationwide mask use being a violation of states' rights or a solution where the problem can't necessarily be solved with a "one size fits all" approach because COVID concerns for a state such as New York are much different than say Montana or Idaho. When an idea is judged good or bad based on the political affiliation of the person behind it, can we really trust that judgement?

Damn. That's deep. I wonder who'll be the new al capone by then.

I've got a relative who gave me an asthma inhaler. When people approach me bitching about having no mask on, I whip it out and tell them that I have asthma and they quickly apologize. This must be what cops feel when they flash a badge. It's awesome.

It's been a month since I started using this technique. In the last week I've had more customers in stores telling me I need to wear a mask because of local laws. Depending on their politeness level I'll respond with either "I have asthma and can't wear a mask" or "You need to mind your own fucking business". All of the employees have been nothing but nice to me.

You can buy a Primatene Mist inhaler over the counter if you want to try this technique yourself. I'm 99% sure that the average person won't know the difference between that and a prescription Albuterol inhaler just from looking at it.

Yesterday, as I was helping open up the store, I decided when no one was around to take off my mask.

It felt amazing. Even being in the restrooms I found how much I missed all the different smells each area of the store had.

Then I saw another employee walking around without a mask. Part of me was kinda happy I wasn't alone in this kind of thinking.

That evening I was feeling lazy, so I ordered some uber eats. The bag the food came in had stickers saying "Aren't you glad you stayed inside?" and "Going out is overrated anyway." which kept the bag sealed. Jesus fuck the companies aren't even trying to hide the fact they're attempting to indoctrinate people into this "new normal".

I guess what I'm trying to say is, this whole thing is depressing. Preaching to the choir I know, but I just want people to know that you aren't alone. I'm not sure how long this will last, or even if it will end, but never, EVER give in to despair. That's what these fuckers want. Even if it's just small things, just keep finding ways to LIVE.

The power of public opinion has fucking failed spectacularly, so we're almost totally at the mercy of these dickheads deciding that their power trip is over (and we all know how nearly impossible it is for those who suddenly gained newfound power overnight to just give it up).
It's as if the now exotic, almost utopian time of 6 months ago is being memory-holed by those who seem to drive Earth to hell.

It's something I've said a long while ago, but the whole mask thing is a symbol of power through fear.
I've heard it compared to an initiation ritual for a cult.

And something out of a Twilight Zone episode.

I still think wearing masks is creepy too. Especially now that they've become typical American clothes, advertising and everything. Like I said in another thread, I pretty much live in the '90s or '00s, so to me everything is really getting crazy. I thought "social" media and social "justice" was bad enough - now there's "social distancing" and Germaphobe World.

Maybe it's just me, but commercial masks stink of chemicals or whatever solvents they use & industrial processes; especially paper/fiber element disposables, even cloth.

Even most new clothes have the same kind of smell, and I normally have to wash them several times before it goes away. The only thing I've found that usually doesn't is 100% wool.

to be fair, chances of someone sneezing/coughing/spiting in my face while talking are much higher. rubbing your eye with your fingers is always a retarded idea, corona or not, hence you use the back of your finger if you can't wash your hands first.
it's one of the reasons why I'm actually ok with masks when used properly. as much as it may annoy me, the people who know how it works also know it protects them, and vice versa.

the biggest issue is not everybody knows (thanks to the media) and either think it's ultimate protection and/or is ok with wearing one in places where it makes zero fucking sense. keeping your distance does the same fucking thing, so wearing it outside while staying away from people is just stupid. wearing it inside alone in your house or your car even more so.

there's also the long-term effect. once people figure out this shit is all a big nothingburger the time we actually need masks people will be much more reluctant to do so.

in uber eats defense people staying inside and just ordering food props up their business quite a bit. I'd be more concerned when you hear it from restaurants and shops that need the foot traffic.

The current situation in France is..quickly spiralling out of the government's control. Our glorious leaders failed to test and isolate, so what happens?

Cases are on the rise ( Deaths are rarely mentioned ), approximately 5k per day, and it is rising.
The reaction is fairly interesting: The government believes that the citizens are children in need to reminded of how naughty they are.

Mask wearing is on the rise. I earlier talked about how cities made masks mandatory, on their territory.
Where I live, it is more subtle now: Some neighborhoods have mandatory mask wearing, other remain mask free..Did I mention that you now have to pay attention to how the situation evolves?
As the departemental prefects tighten or loosen the regulations on a DAILY basis.

Masks are mandatory at work now. City-wide mask wearing happens at some places without cases, and doesn't in places with confirmed cases.

For now, I enjoy my last days of peace while wearing as little masks as I can, jogging and staying the fuck away from people.
Looks like the nightmare is far from over.

There's only so many times these politicians can poke an increasingly agitated bear before it snaps.

Should they try to keep this farce going past Fall, I fully expect civil unrest in the form of protests and riots.

And that's if the "experts" and politicians don't cause a depression, then they'd need to watch their backs.

If it's like Sweden, the disease is likely burning like wildfire through immigrant conmunities.

Texas is faring reasonably well, at least from a virus standpoint. Houston hospitals briefly dipped into sustainable surge capacity around mid july, but Corona hospitalizations have been steeply declining throughout late July and August. The rolling average of deaths per day is around 1-200 deaths per day statewide and slowly going down. The boomers in charge of counting tests are apparently severely bottlenecked in how many tests they can test per day even after a software upgrade. As a result, there's a massive backlog of positive tests pending assignment to specific counties, and each one assigned is treated as a new case on the day that it is processed. As a consequence, the test positivity rate is inflated to ridiculous amounts. The kicker? The governor is using that positivity rate as a bellweather for when reopening can resume.

I don't think the providers are the issue. Sales are sales, but it's not really the providers pushing bans either. When the Pharmaceutical board in Ohio briefly banned HCQ, people looked into the board and found it was mostly made up of lawyers and corporate management types from your big box stores and chains like CVS and Walgreens.

Well, who else would you expect it to be comprised of?

When the CVS/Caremark merger happened we were all like WHAT THE FUCK but the government allowed it anyway.

Licensed medical professionals do not run our healthcare system.

Now that you brought up cases, death is hardly mentioned when cases are reported, especially here in texas.

I expected more pharmacists, just ones in management. I didn't expect the top position to be a lawyer. But the board was picked by our governor and he currently has a lawyer running our health department.

I guess it's more that I wasn't surprised, just disappointed.
