I think in this particular picture it is because her sister is the only person of blood relation to Chinny here, and she is a half sister at that. Her mom doesn’t seem to be in the pic. The guy next to her sister is her sister’s boyfriend. The man at the end is her step-dad. Just a guess but the man next to her step-dad looks very similar, and I would guess that would be his brother and his brother’s wife. However that is just a guess. But it is the step-dad’s birthday gathering so I would have to assume it’s his family.

I personally don't think the sister looks touched or slow or whatever, though with that family of origin, it's certainly a strong possibility. I just think the sister hates being in the same room with Chantal. Those of us with family members we really hate might be able to empathize about how hard it is to be civil when you're in the same room with them, let alone pretend to be happy for a few hours and a picture. (Of course, we do pretend, because we've learned how to get by in the world without alienating everyone around us, unlike Chantal.)

Rate me lunacy for this, but I wouldn't put it past Chantal to secretly be crushing on her sister's boyfriend. You know how she just HAD to let everyone know Nat is challenged? I wouldn't put it past her to think things like "Her boyfriend totally wants me. I see how he looks at me sometimes, you know? But I can't go there because he's with my sister. Besides, she is emotionally challenged and I'm totally normal and a popular social media "influencer" who would be a better fit for him, but I'm not like a homewrecker, you know? I could never do that to my family, but I know deep down there could've been something great between us, but it's more like a forbidden love, you know?"

If anything, I think her being barren hits a soft spot, not because she ever wanted kids, but because she's stuck at the mental age of 8 and constantly feels the urge to be as shitty and pedantic as possible in an attempt to one-up anyone who utters anything slightly negative about her.
It's like two siblings fighting over a TV remote: no one really wants it, but now it's suddenly the most precious thing to exist and the other person can't have it at all costs.
Chantal's life motto is "If I can't have it, no one can", and so anyone who has what she doesn't (or can't) have must be attacked and berated. This is exactly why she buys into the "health at every size" and abelism bullshit, because she can't stand others being better than her and wants an army of equally as delusional morons to do her dirty work for her, preserving her ridiculous hugbox as to avoid any and all accountability.

Agreed. The gravy guzzling ogress has never wanted children. Other than not being able to provide basic affection towards another living being, Chantal would never spend money on someone other than herself. Even her cats lack extra toys, beds, and presents that people shower their feline companions with even if they (the cats) don't care for any of it. If Chinny ever felt the desire to be a parent, it was anything but genuine. It was, "A baby will have to love me!" and nothing more.
For anyone who does think that it's about parenthood for Chantal, ask yourself this: If our gargantuan gunt beast is actually taking a swing at online dating, do you think she's chatting up single fathers? Absolutely not. That would require sharing the XXXXXL spotlight, and she probably looks down on single parents anyway. She could be approached by a hot African migrant with charm to burn and cash to spend, but if he even has so much as a goldfish that requires his attention, or a hobby that requires him being out of the house and around other people, that's a deal breaker for our button bursting landmass. Even though Chantal is big enough to have her own orbit, she is the center of no one's universe except her own.
