Jesus, he's straight up trying to prevent him from getting to the police cause he wants the mob to tear him apart first. What other possible reason could he have? It kills the narrative that if Kyle surrendered he would have been merely held until police could arrest him. He wanted to execute this kid, straight up.

This case is so open and shut that if he gets charged on anything, I expect the streets to flood with right wing death squads. Public Defenders bless their hearts, they are doing one of the most critical jobs a free society has, while getting shit on all the time from their clients, the media, their own goverment (budget cuts, insane case loads), and the public at large. Police even in these times have more vocal support then Public Defenders ever got. All the while needing to deal with some of the worse cases you can have (e.g. pedoshit) and dealing with people who are unluckly (e.g. a truely innocent person but for one reason or another they were charged) and/or just down on their luck.

Even then, there will be a jury instruction to limit the consideration of the evidence to the purpose it was admitted for.

The rule is eroding somewhat in domestic violence cases because people want to play to prejudices in those cases, but this isn't a DV case.

Here's a look behind the curtain a bit, public defenders are massively overworked, often only able to spend roughly 1-2 hours on a case... total. If your lucky. The law says you have a right to an attorney, it doesn't say you have a right to a GOOD attorney, or sufficient TIME for said attorney.

It depends on the case. For serious cases like murder the PD puts in quite a bit of time, has a budget for investigation, etc.
