TLJ is by far the worst Star Wars movie ever made, my point is Rian was hired to do exactly what he did. It wasn't a mistake on his part and it wasn't a surprise to KK on what the end product was. They designed it together. She hired him, she let him film it and go through production when she has shown she is fine firing people mid production so she approved of what she saw and read from Rian. That's her decision and she deserves more blame than Rian imo. I blame the person hiring the gun moreso than the hired gun 90% of the time.

KK deserves more blame than Rian Johnson imo. Hes gotten praise for Looper and Knives Out from most people who has seen them. He's good at his own stuff, the problem with TLJ was he was coming in to someone else's universe that had already been bastardized by JJ w/ TFA. Unfortunate position for him to be in and his reaction to criticism certainly makes him a major douche but he might not be a bad director.

The most memorable visual of TLJ was The Holdo maneuver and according to Rian he ran it by the Star Wars people at Lucasfilm if they could do it and the Star Wars people said yes. That's their fault, not his imo.

Rian Johnson deserves blame for TLJ purely because that asshat had the stones to go into MSM and talk about how much he didn't give a shit about the franchise at large. How he isn't concerned about the bigger picture, only what happens within the context of whatever film he's working on at the moment.

I'm sure if he'd been given something standalone it would have been better, but his critical failure was simply taking characters both long established (Luke, etc) and new (Snoke, etc.) and driving them all into the ground for the sake of 'subverted expectations'. He never should have been tapped for a trilogy, indeed now with JJ only doing episodes 7 and 9, it looks sloppy in retrospect that they simply didn't have JJ do all three films. If nothing else, JJ should have been on call 24/7 whenever possible as a consultant just to make sure his plotlines were upheld, since obviously Snoke was supposed to be something other than some asshole in gold clothing who died like a bitch having accomplished literally nothing.

And I suspect there's more going on with the 'it was okayed by Lucasfilm' defense regarding the Holdo Manuver. "Holdo destroys the First Order Fleet by ramming the big ship at speed" is a lot different than "Holdo destroys the First Order Fleet by ramming the big ship at lightspeed" in context. Or, more likely, nobody at Lucasfilm with the power to overturn that shit actually cared because KK at that point had largely made the whole shebang a pro-feminist haven.

What she should have done is found some undeveloped property and make that her own. But if she did that, she wasn't going to get A-list talent and $350 million budgets. (And she'd paid her dues, dammit! She DESERVES to have this power.)

And I think there was some real antipathy towards Star Wars fans. She got a front-row seat to see how Lucas was treated by them. I don't think she had any ill-will towards Lucas other than wanting to be out from under his shadow. She and Lucas seem to have a good relationship to the point Lucas was still going to bat for her on Indiana Jones. We've all seen the End of ROTJ meme, but I don't think that it occurred to her that rebooting the rebellion was shitting on the end of the original films. She just wanted to be doing her own thing for once.

Just to add 2 cents, KK probably didn't have any other option but Star Wars available to her. She is a literally who figure and this was her best bet after "paying" her dues to have some real power and control. If it was succesful she would be seen like Kevin Feige it didn't though. If you were on GL's side and dealt with the star wars fandom from 2006-2015 you'd probably hate them too. They made a documentary about how bad George Lucas is and how he "literally raped their childhood". It's understandable in that light and if she was an actual fan of the universe and it wasn't just a power grab we might have gotten something good. As it stands she killed the most beloved movie franchise that exists and we have to hope that Favrou somehow gets in charge someway and resurrects it.

The SW fandom did not make that documentary. A few whiny assholes did, but most SW fans saw the Prequels, laughed at them, then moved on to the SWEU and whatever else Lucasarts had to offer. The former design looks like a character from a 3rd party DnD or fantasy book for a cleric, not a Jedi. I suspect that it might actually be an organic growth in the form of violently pissed off Sims players dunking on EA and Disney for this. The Sims update should have been Cars themed of all things, but the Rat somehow found money to force this down their throats instead, despite it being last place. In other news, the Kids channel released a new trailer for this shitty idea, and its reception bombed. The prior trailer had a pathetic 15k views and actually had a 2-to-1 ratio of Likes to Dislikes as of writing this. The current video that is the result of Disney paying EA to do this over Cars currently can't even break out of the 10k barrier and is even between like-dislikes. It's been five days.

Oh, and those other two ads for Galaxy's Edge on the channel that I didn't show with pictorial evidence of their failure? How convenient not even a week later their view counts spike by well over 10k views while their interactions barely moved at all.
