In my realm of religion and philosophy, we believe in the concept of Universal Karmics and Equalizations. To us, "God" is just Reality, however Reality is alive and has its own Identity as "Itself". Karmics and Equalization is relative to "Reality", Let's say Reality has a karmic value of 20. You need to meet 20 to be "synced up and equal." That's a simplism viewpoint, because the actual value is unknown outside of some good guesses.
Anyway, Reality, to people like me, is a living thing, and all things are a part of it. Reality gives, and it takes away, depending on wants/needs/will of the individuals that make up its collective. Humans are interesting, because we have the ability to get "Karmic Debt; or bad karma". Essentially, there's no such thing as "Black Karma" or "Bad Energy Juju"; Bad or negative karma just means you have taken/incurred more inbound karma that is normally allotted. Its like spending 30 dollars when you only have 20 in your bank; your balance is in the negative by 10$, and also wacked with an overdraft fee of 45$, meaning your balance is -55$, all because you spent 10$ more than you could afford. That is how karmics work.
How equalization works, and how bills come due with karmics, falls in line with how Reality is, "It is a Living Collective Singularity, made of living singulars in a collective." Sounds complicated right? Its not, its just saying that "Literally everything around you has an effect and is part of Reality, thus effecting your karmic balance. Some things naturally gain more karma than others, some gain less. Now, Humans are unique because we have something called "Identities and Egos" which block our connection to Reality, and make us selfish. We lose sight of the weight of karma to pursue our own self interests; this concept is known as "Human Sin." When we commit sin, we essentially are opening a negative balance with our karmics, but we cannot see or understand this because of our Ego and Identity. The Ego is virtual, and doesn't actually exist, it is Unreal; however the actions the Ego undertakes has Real consequences. So, if an Ego continuously sins, what we'll see is Reality trying to pay off some of the balance by returning the karma they've accredited in the form of "Negative balance equalization." Essentially, its Reality charging back your sins by making you face the charges of your sins. If you overcome the charge, then the negative balance lessens, and you're closer to being equal.
There's different sects that believe you can permanently close a negative balance by converting to Christism, and others who believe that "Ahimsa" is the key to closing off the balance. Personally, my viewpoint is an extreme of both, which is killing the Ego,, realizing it is virtual and in an existence that has its Human grace (Ignorance of Sin) rejected. I mean of course, this puts the game into "Contra mode" where "If you have a negative balance before physical death, then its lowest of the lowest Hells because you understand the weight of karmics and sin, yet still chose to do so" but thats an extreme. I also believe to fall under Christism or Ahimsa is committing to a metaphorical Ego suicide, and taking a new name under your belief of your choice. The nice thing about this though, is that when you do commit to this extreme; even though there's extreme risk in failure, there's low probability that you will, because the karmics and equalization become much more pronounced when choosing this path. Its really hard to desync with the Living Reality, if It regularly syncs with you, and you follow the pathways It presents to you. Essentially, If you choose this path willingly and commit to it, you have to REALLY have to try and fuck it up. Deadly Sin will instantly result in failure, however, you have to try REALLY hard to commit one, if you understand its weight and consequence.
How does this work in Death? Well, its an interesting idea that depends on what sect you are in. Personally, I believe in the "Absolution" route, meaning that "All conscious energy returns to the Living Reality's mind/energy source "Heaven". However, I do not believe that Egos/Identities enter that place, unless they are in sync with it already. Christism states "If you have surrendered your Ego unto Christ, then He will recognize you and give you passage; but you have to commit to this act and actually "Be a new person" for this to work. Those of the Ahimsic sect believe that "Those who you have helped and have spared violence from will essentially back you up and say "Yes, we all agree, this person should be granted entry." Those already synced up with The Living Reality, simply just walk into the light and become one with It.
This is like...2% of the population though, its kind of a hard thing to achieve. More often than not, people wind up coming with an Ego that isn't synced up to the Living Reality, and thus need to be cleaned. Thus, the Ego is stripped and made unreal, and the clean conscious energy, without name or being, is then accepted. The Catholics call this Purgatory; I call it "The Washing". Depending on how stubborn the Ego is, and how much in the negative their karmic ledger is, depends on the quickness/torment of The Washing is. If its a minor ledger, with a malleable Ego, it doesn't take long, maybe a year at most (Living Time). But if the ledger is extremely negative, or the Ego refuses to die; then its send somewhere to pay off that negative balance, and have the Ego made soft and dissolvable. This is known as the Classical Hells. You want to avoid these places, because while they aren't 'bad' in the traditional sense, they are a place of punishment, torment, agony, and restitution with no rest, no shelter, no peace. The pain isn't physical of course, but you are certainly conscious and you'll experience suffering beyond physical comprehension as you pay your dues. The best way to describe it is like "Imagine a terrible pain in your head, a thought so bad, that it distresses and causes you psychological harm, that is just a fraction of what the pain you will experience."
But the good news is, after the Ego has been stripped, (whether rended, flayed, annihilated or washed) and the karmics are paid off, the blank conscious then proceeds to go into "Heaven"; thus creating the "Absolution" cycle. What happens after that, is that your blank consciousness eventually manifests again, because that is what Reality does, It manifests parts of Itself; you'll be alive again, but you won't really, how to put it, know that you were alive previously. To you, it'll be like your first time again. There are some who believe that a positive ledger balance results in a better existence in your next manifestation. I don't personally know if that is true or not, it would be nice; but from what I understand, "The Kindness of The Living Reality isn't really like Human Kindess. its foolish to assume it in Human terms. I mean, the "Absolution cycle" with Hell included, is more so its form of Kindness, Justice, and Mercy. Maybe there is reward in manifesting into something better, I don't know, and I probably won't, since I'll certainly be unaware of this knowledge next time I am made physical once again.
Again, this is just something of Faith and Philosophy, you are free to disagree or not consider it true. There are some in my belief system who believe my views to be both "Too extreme" or "Too kind" [oddly enough, I'm considered a moderate zealot] I guess that is what happens when a Western faith taught individual mixes with Eastern philosophies and combines the two into this strange faith that is Unitarianism. My sect is the Absolutionist, and my sect approach is Logical.
