I'm maybe reaching a bit, but I can think of why she got THIS role:
1: Either, they (Funimation) saw all the negative media about how they mistreated Interspecies Reviewer and heard all the call-outs about them having absolutely no standards. So in an effort to "own the trolls" they thought they could prove us wrong with one bad decision.
2: Or, Monica knows the controversy & realised that Uzaki haters will probably go after Monica to an extent. It would have nothing to do with the Vic drama. Monica might have to defend herself and the character from those haters. her simps will protect her & say anyone against the decision hates Uzaki. However, Monica wants to make this look like a Vic Drama thing & gain some sympathy points out of it.
Think about it, The SJWs wouldn't DARE cancel Monica for taking THAT role. Right? They went through all this work to cultivate a fan base for her so now, they have to either take a stance or FOLD on their attacks on Anime through Uzaki-chan. They're standing in middle of the war.
The rage against Anime (& calling fans of such pedos) OR... Monica the 'untouchable victim' trying to get on with her life.
If they attack Uzaki-chan now, they attack Monica's decision to voice her.

Almost seems like Funi directors have a lot of power and control over the work that the VA's get. Would be a shame if someone they didn't like, for whatever reason, were to get that position. The VA's might have to be extra nice to this hypothetical individual to get cast, which would suck if you had only been pretending to like him for...let's say...20 years... Maybe there's a way to prevent that. Hmm...

So far the response to Funi's tweet is positive. Although what's funny is some are complaining just about Monica and that she's overused and always sounds the same. So literally complaining about her without mentioning Vic.

Hey, that's the exact reason I disliked Monica before all this Vic shit happened. She was in practically everything and sounded exactly the same... Squeaky and annoying. I hated hearing her voice in stuff. There are maybe one or two roles she has done that I didn't recognize her right off the bat. She can do a decent job sometimes, but that would require too much effort that she really doesn't want to put in. She'd rather giggle about "poles" with Clickenbeard or make sexual jokes with her pal Marchi.
