“Nearly all children nowadays were horrible. What was worst of all was that by means of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the discipline of the Party. On the contrary, they adored the Party and everything connected with it… All their ferocity was turned outwards, against the enemies of the State, against foreigners, traitors, saboteurs, thought-criminals. It was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children.” - 1984
The most shocking part of 1984 that I've just reflected on recently was Winston's realization that the Party did not care about petty criminals, just thoughtcrime. When he's put in a holding cell, there are actual criminals who were arrested but act jovial since they know they won't receive any punishment and will be let out, again, without consequence. In distinction, people like Winston, thoughtcriminals, are the true targets of the state "justice system." That's literally what is going on now with lib cuck DAs in places like St Louis, Portland, NYC, etc. The arsonists, looters, felons, and rapists? They're let out on their own recognizance without nary a consequence. But those who commit thoughtcrime receive the full brunt of state attention.
It's enough to blackpill you beyond all hope.
