Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at 87. - 🦀

What is with the fetishization (not the kind that makes weirdos peepees hard) of Ruth Bader Ginsburg anyway?
I mean there are books, toys, bobble-heads, funk pops, coloring books and even costumes to dress your children up in. Some places even shoehorn her in as some sort of pop culture reference (I think that new scooby-doo movie had one of the characters as a child dressed up as her). Its never really sat right with me and always seemed pretty weird that people seem to worship her as some sort of saint or deity or something like that.
I'm sure it will now only get worse now that shes kicked the bucket. Probably going to be seeing shit with her on it popping up everywhere.
She was pretty much the most left wing judge on the court and made it clear she wouldn't let the law get in the way of her ruling in favor of most left wingers' causes. She also was more than happy to do media tours versus others like Clarence Thomas who quietly goes on trips with his RV.

Thought I'd check out what late night shows would do about kissing her ass and first video was oddly appropriate for this thread.

"Ruth Bader Ginsberg has died."

Kiwi Farms: "Here's why premarital sin is condemned in the Old Testament and why abortion is murder."

Sorry about that.

Slightly more on-topic, the bluechecks angry about the GOP's ability to choose Ginsburg's replacement are getting more bold in their demands for retaliatory court stacking (and other measures aimed at making the US a single-party state):

Okay.

But that's not the world we inhabit. A staggering number of supreme court cases are decided along party lines.
Ironically, this is an issue largely of the left's making. Their judges largely try to legislate from the bench rather than interpret the law. This is not to say none on the right due, Scalia comes to mind, but largely right wing judges were not the kind to legislate from the bench. So, why do I say the left did it? Well, when you have a force clearly pulling against what the purpose of your office is, the reaction is to pull in the opposite direction. Thus, party line votes.

There's a couple more conspiracy-minded fellows who think RBG's been dead for months and they decided to pull a Weekend At Bernies.
This is untenable for a couple reasons, but if you could cover up the death of a Supreme Court Justice, why reveal it now? Even if Trump lost in November, he's still gonna be president until January. That's a good 100 days to ram through a justice. In fact him losing would make this the final fuck-you of the GOP.
My point is, if she held on just a few more days-- September 30th, even. It woulda made ramming through a replacement just too tight in the schedule and untenable for Trump.
October surprises are supposed to be game-changers that come too late for anybody to change their charted courses. Whereas this comes just in time for both Trump and Biden to renew their cases to the nation

How hard is it to not have unprotected sex? Is it that hard? Maybe keep your legs closed if it's too hard for you to take a pill, get a shot, get an IUD or learn to insert a diaphragm. And condoms are sold everywhere and given away for free.

George Carlin had a skit about abortion where he asked why bible-thumpers didn't love fags.
The repeal of Row v. Wade would inadvertantly help Big Gay. I'm serious, it'd be a great recruiter.. by that I mean, here's this whole class of people guaranteed never to need abortions, and if you're even incidentally bi-sexual, that 1% failure rate in condoms might be enough to tip you over the edge into experimenting. Society's only getting less homophobic and more hedonistic. It'd be peak clown-world if Trump's Ginsburg replacement rules against government subsidised abortions and within a year STDs skyrocket alongside Gen Z tactically claiming gayness until they're financially stable

Patented Ginsburg burgers! Old family recipe.
Yes, and you call them that despite the fact that they're obviously Ginsburgers.

One enjoyment I'm getting out of this is finally seeing an end to conspiracy theories about a global Illuminati keeping Ginsburg alive via Frankenstein technology. This whole thing just shows that the political elite aren't as omnipotent as they and their conspiracy makers would like us to believe.

With the capture of Maxwell they simply ran out of Adrenochrome.

How can they sit there with a straight face and accuse the side that's actually playing by the rules of cheating?
They're like that snotty little shit who'd make up new rules every time he started losing, and would rat out every other kid to the teachers while causing plenty of mischief himself.
And here the rules the GOP's playing by are the ones the Dems made up last time they were being sore losers.

Sorry about that.

I always find it so strange how people think that playing by the rules is somehow not playing fair. It isn't like the GOP is even packing the courts or anything by inflating the numbers which they could do/could have done. We desperately need a Constitutional Amendment to permanently fix the number of SCOTUS Justices.

Make it a number equal to the number of states. Make every supreme court ruling a megadrome event.

One of my children is the product of a straight up, hand round the throat, stitch-ripping postpartum rape. I refused all attempts by the rapist to coerce me into a termination. You can argue that that decision was unfair on him, because he didn’t want to have another child. I didn’t want to be raped and impregnated, so you can argue that was pretty unfair on me. Not having unprotected sex can be pretty hard sometimes. The question is, what do you do about it afterwards.

Human reproduction is a very ethically grey business involving difficult circumstances for a lot of people. I’m too old and sad to be as judgemental as I once was.
I'm sorry that happened to you. Reasonable people (and I believe I am one) have always agreed there should be exceptions in cases where pregnancy is harmful to the mother's health /life or rape. There is also chemical termination which is basically taking Ovral to induce menstruation after unprotected sex. There are other medications that can do the same later on.

Most reasonable people object to surgical abortion on demand as a form of birth control. Unrestricted abortion is also part of the leftist belief women can have countless sex partners, delay marriage and children and do everything men can do. This is not true. Promiscuity results in STDs that have a more negative and serious impact on women, which damages fertility and severely impacts the possibility of having children. Having been raised in an ultra liberal city this was hammered into me at an early age. As I grew older I realized the liberal ideal was wrong. It causes a lot of damage and unnecessary heartbreak. Abortion on demand is less a choice than part of a way of life. The people who push this agenda have nothing but contempt for women who have children and stay home to raise them. In my experience they are the most judgemental women I have ever come across.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to be an asshole.

Are you morons really shocked that the 87 year old cancer patient died?

This happened largely because of her own poor decision to not retire in 2015-2016. She made a partisan and somewhat selfish decision, which I think is unbecoming of someone that serves on the SCOTUS.

I disagreed with a lot of her rulings, and thought the weird little cult that lefties had built around her over the past decade or so was dumb as hell, but I always liked her personally. She and Scalia were my favorite justices that I had actually met in person.

Trump and McConnell have a few options on what to do; I guarantee they're getting ready to poll-test all of them, since this has the potential to affect the races for president and Senate.

The first option is to do what Democrats want and wait until after the election (either immediately, or until the inauguration, depending on how things play out). This would likely drive up turnout on both sides, and I'm not certain (without any actual data in front of me) who it would benefit more. This would allow Republicans to avoid charges of hypocrisy, however, and could potentially help to shield vulnerable incumbent senators in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Montana, and North Carolina.

The second option is to fast-track a nominee and get them confirmed ASAP; if they start moving by the end of next week, choose someone from the original list (i.e. someone who more of the vetting work is already done for), and choose a woman to help avoid fake sexual assault allegations, I think that they could have a new justice sworn in by election day. Once again, I haven't seen any data, but I would be concerned about this energizing the Democratic base relative to the GOP base, especially in the aforementioned states with vulnerable incumbent Republican senators on the ballot. However, this would also help to serve as a check against a President Biden and a Congress completely controlled by Democrats.

The third option is to get the ball rolling now, but don't fast-track it; in other words, go ahead and make a nomination in the next couple of weeks, then have a confirmation around Thanksgiving at the absolute earliest. My gut tells me that this would electorally fall between the other two options in terms of base enthusiasm, probably slightly in Democrats' favor. This also has the electoral problems of the second option, as well as it serving as a sort of insurance against a Democratic trifecta doing something completely stupid.

Regardless, I think we'll know within the next few days what's going to happen.
So you worked with the Supreme Court at one point?
