Microsoft buys Bethesda for 7.5 billion.

From what I understand Microsoft isnt as dedicated to console exclusivity these days. You have Indies like Cuphead and Ori on other platforms Minecraft is pretty much on every operating system, console, handheld, and phone, and Outer Worlds was a multiplatform release. Plus you have them releasing the MCC and Halo Infinite on steam. Hell even Sony's starting to shift away from exclusivity by releasing the sadness quadrilogy Horizon Zero Dawn, and God of War on PC.

On the topic of Bethesda Ive just started playing new Vegas and its pretty fucking good (Im doing the old world blues dlc right now)

Timed exclusivity I see MS doing. They have done that with Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2016.

Best case scenario, I see MS having Bethesda and Obsidian do A first party exclusive game for their platform and PC. Not leverage their existing IPs with that exclusivity deal. That wouldn't be good PR.

They're not stopping at Zenimax. There's a bunch of rumors floating around that MS just bought Sega and are going to announce it at TGS.

Weren't there a bunch of rumors they were trying to buy Konamis gaming IPs back in spring too? Or was that Sony?

I dont think MS is going to hold everything for console exclusives either. It's been pretty apparent they want game pass to be what people want more than xbox systems themselves. They'll probably sell games at 70 bucks a pop on Sony and Nintendo hardware for the diehards that refuse to use something available with Gamepass.

This is being floated with the same rumors that Sony bought Fromsoftware.

Why the fuck would you go all digital?

Why the even further the fuck would you go all digital for games that you don't even own?

We already know the horrors of itunes and Netflix, fucking records have come back and people are buying up physical copies of shows because streaming services remove shit every other month for political reasons.

Not gonna happen for multiple reasons.

Sega is part of SEGA Sammy, a publically traded coorporation. This means that the announcement of a potential SEGA acquisition would require Sammy and it would be announced in a business press conference or board room, not on Twitter. It would be known months in advance, like when Ubisoft was almost victim of a hostile takeover years ago. It wouldn't be as intense, but it would be public knowledge.

Sega Sammy has pachinko and anime subsidiaries. I don't believe Microsoft wants to get into those businesses just for Sega.

At most, you might get a collaberation and not an outright acquisition.

Main rumour I heard is that SEGA will be publishing/marketing the Xbox under it's brand in Japan, plus becoming an official partner of Gamepass like EA. This would lead to a wash of IP's that have dodged Xbox for sometime such as Persona, Miku and the latter Yakuza games.
This is retarded because Sony has an iron grip on persona.

Miku needs a specialized controller to properly play on consoles and also due to refresh rate bullshit. American TVs need to be properly calibrated and it's a bitch and a half to get the right settings.

Yakuza is already availible on PC which Xbox is already allowing their games to be played on.

Bunch of boring shitty franchises i don't play lol.

It would be funny if Microsoft decides to go full EA and fill the games with retarded scams. I don't even care for american entertainment anymore, it all sucks balls and the corporations double down on the sucking and try to solve everything with more money and more marketing, which they have infinite amounts of to spare and endlessly kill the culture around it and push what they want to push. This is Microsoft throwing money at it after Xbone proved to be the most irrelevant console ever, the usual flexing.

I wish the hex box never existed and it was only Nintendo vs Sony. Vidya would be so much better.

Well, MS DID combine EA Play with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. So they are listening to feedback about the game selection on Game Pass. Props.

Lol it's only a matter of time before individual publishers start offering their own version of gamepass and break away from the larger companies, just like all the streaming service bullshit.

Like what they're doing on PC? UPlay, Rockstar Games Launcher, Origin, Epic Games Store?

That's going to be bad for business.

Every single large company with a group of investors or board of directors is going to want their own version because it gives them the chance to maximize profit and not rely on a larger company and pay them for everything.

This is what the gamepasses are inviting, this is the next fad of bullshit that will rear it's head.

Do you spend 90 bucks a month to stay subbed to everything to play all the games, or do you spend 60-70 bucks on a specific game a month and keep it forever? This is what it's going to boil down to.

That would weirdly make sense given that there was a bunch of exclusive Sega games on the original Xbox.

If that deal meant a new Jet Set Radio and a Gunvalkyrie reboot well... I'd be for it.

I wish the hex box never existed and it was only Nintendo vs Sony. Vidya would be so much better.

In the long run, yeah, but Xbox gave us a good time for the original Xbox and the first few years of the Xbox 360, including a lot of cool Japanese games.

However once the scales tipped in favor of the western market during the 7th gen things got worse and today it would be better if videogames had remained a primarily Japanese thing.

I wish things could have stayed in that healthy equilibrium between east and west it had during the 6th gen, where you had your dudebro shooters like Halo but also your weird Japanese games like Katamari Damacy.
