Microsoft buys Bethesda for 7.5 billion.

I may have to actually get an xbox again if they can actually turn out a good game.

Allthough i remember all the retarded shit that happened with Rare and Current year Obsidian also doesn't look too promising since they're staffed with the same Sigmarxists who are trying to ruin tabletop games with their "quirky" political bullshit and history revision.

Really just Larian at this point is the one that I have any hope for since BG3 looks like it's going to work and maybe CDPR if they can ever get Cyberpunk out the door.

Am I the only one hoping this leads to them firing Todd and Pete? :optimistic:, I know.

I don't get why people hate Pete Hines. He's just the PR guy, like Reggie was for Nintendo. If Todd took a shit in a ES6 collector's edition box and told him to do the reveal and unboxing, he'd have no choice but do it straight-faced or quit.

From what I gathered, it’s not a done deal yet and expected to finish the entire procedure by the second half of 2021. So who knows? Maybe the financial and PR disaster that was labeled as Fallout 76 might throw a wrench into this.
Lots of things can happen in the span of a year. Remember all the promises and hype they did with Scalebound? I do.

it's a good financial move. regardless of if TES6 is good it'll sell like hotcakes for 2 console generations in various editions with dlc. remember skyrim is almost 10 years old and it's literally still on shelves.
TES6 is going to be a game with three stats (combat/magic/stealth), stamina and magicka will be the same bar, and combat will be reduced to a cutscene that checks to see what level of "Melee Prowess" perk you have to decide if you win.
Skyrim removed classes, I guarantee TES6 removes any differences between the races.

I watched a video on Peter Molyneux and there is some real parallels with him and Todd Howard. Both worked on PC games that became cult hits to big hits, became figureheads of their brand and oversold their games with promises that either partially or failed to deliver, and both now or been under Microsoft management. I wonder if Todd Howard can handle not only being a major gaming force but now under a bigger company not wanting failure.

The buyout doesn't surprise me. Microsoft is desperate to compete with Sony with its library and Bethesda is probably a good gamble. However buying studios with massive funding doesn't always pan out with examples of Rare and the forgotten games of early Xbox, (remember the original mascot Blinx?) Either way at least their will be PC releases of Bethesda games, assuming Microsoft doesn't try to force another god awful PC gaming platform.

I really don't see how this makes any difference for the gaming audience in the long run. Most if not all Bethesda games are best played on PC (mostly because of community mods) and as it has been stated the ports to Sony hardware had been lackluster at best so it is not as if PlayStation fans are going to miss much. If anything this will affect more the corporate board rooms of Bethesda and Microsoft shareholders.

Also people are being way too knee jerky expecting Sony to buy some major developer/publisher as some sort of counter move. At best Sony can continue in their strategy to fund studios for the development of exclusives and that is as good as it is going to get for the time being since Sony in no way has the size, resources or infrastructure Microsoft has in comparison.

I don't even expect this to affect ports of Bethesda games to Switch since Nintendo is basically the only place to go for dedicated handheld gaming ( Microsoft never tried to enter that market and Sony threw the towel) and there are already rumblings for a 4K Switch in the horizon.

You need to sign into your windows account to start playing, would you like to link this with your Xbox account, you'll get 1 month of GamePass free*.

I mean they'll just leave the Bethesda.net launcher alone and it will most definitely not be rebranded and have subscription bullshit and Microsoft office shit shoved in there.

Fallout 4 was the first and last game I intend to buy on consoles, let alone PlayStation. Cinematic 15 FPS in downtown Boston during combat! :story:

As for this news, I really don't know how to take it. Morrowind was my favorite in the series and each new TES release has led me to become more and more bitter over where the series is going (which according to some old fogeys in the community, can be placed almost entirely on memelord Todd's shoulders. Ripping out RPG mechanics. Defiling all the hard work/drug binges that Kurt Kuhlman, Michael Kirkbride, and others put into the worldbuilding in favor of aping Peter Jackson's LOTR. Having Emil Pagliarulo write with no oversight. Rehashing the same exact plot for every game and DLC since Morrowind. Turning Sheogorath into "cheese lol so randum XD" instead of a disturbing portrayal of insanity. GAMEBRYO.

Or my favorite, essentially saying "we're too dumb to get spears to work in game" on the lead up to Skyrim's release in 2011. While mom and pop devs Taleworlds were able to get spears to work with a much better mounted combat system back in 2008.

I'm also still assmad 9 years later that they decided that all the cool Nordic gods stopped being worshipped by the time of TES V like Kyne and Shor. Instead we get the same watery gruel that is Oblivion's Nine Divines.

On the other hand, having Microsoft in change makes me incredibly doubtful on TES VI's modding capabilities. At best I see us getting the same kind of mods Witcher III and most modern games that claim to have "modding support" have: ENBs and texture packs. Utterly forgettable.

Oh well, there's always The Wayward Realms, a spiritual successor to TES II made by founding members of Bethesda.

Bethesda already did this in Skyrim. Khajiiti thieves run just as fast and jump as high as an Orc warrior.
They also removed the differences between sexes too. Stuff like how Nord women made better battlemages but Nord men made better pure warriors. Can't have consequences, strengths or weaknesses in an RPG!

After Outer Worlds why would anyone even want a New Vegas 2 by nuObsidian.

I can picture New Vegas itself as made by the current 'talent' at Obsidian:
- House would probably just be a raving lunatic with a female assistant that actually does everything.
He uh... Had 2 actually

They were cut because (allegedly) their voices sounded terrible once they were run through the synthetizer used for all securitrons. They are referenced by Veronica in one of her sarcastic quips though: "What did you think of Mr. House? I was surprised he only had the two robot sex slaves,"
