The private sector is able to do that too. UPS, for example, will train you to drive trucks and pay for your CDL.

Alright, for those that haven't been following The Boys this season, here's another brief summary:
So yeah, turns out Stormfront was actually a Nazi supe who's been working for Vought for decades and is biologically immortal since she doesn't age. Her overall goal is to perfect Compound V so that it can be injected into adults and create working supes every time, as opposed to the chaotic effects it currently has, then create an army of supes to flat-out murder the undesirables. Bobby's dream girl, basically.
Anyway, the latest episode began with a montage sequence of a stereotypical neckbeard consooming the (laughably bad) memes that Stormfront's media team put out, and he eventually becomes radicalized and shoots a Middle Eastern convenience store clerk in the face because he suspected he was a supe in disguise. Extremely heavy-handed, basically the same straight-up "alt-right radicals are gonna murder us all" fearmongering that's been pushed for years now, despite almost all the violence coming out of the left-wing over the same timeframe. When you consider the ongoing riots this year, this attempt at a message really falls flat to anyone who pays a modicum of attention to the current political landscape outside of the Twitter hugbox.
Bob, missing the point entirely, thinks that this neckbeard actually represents the audience who enjoys The Boys because it satirizes capeshit and doesn't shy away from mature themes, unlike the cookie-cutter sterilized MCU corporate product (that's even specifically satirized in the show proper through scenes showing the Seven on set of their latest film). No, Bob, I'm pretty sure the villains of the series are in fact the absolute psychopaths who willingly, even gleefully, murder countless innocents just because they can.
Aside from that, the season's been pretty great overall, and I'm looking forward to the finale. I don't like that they've tried to take a more political tone with the second season because that stuff generally feels like weaker and less interesting writing, but that might have come from the comic itself, I dunno. I much prefer the character drama and intrigue aspects of the show, it's definitely much better than whatever hackneyed political message they're trying to get across.
And without spoilers, no, the actual villains are basically Bob with superpowers. Let's all be glad that Bob is in fact an ineffectual manchild pushing 40.

You've got to be a near perfect specimen for the US government to trust you with a $340m plane and advanced weapons systems. Being a pilot means being in great shape, having near perfect vision, passing a psych eval, and having some excellent math and science scores. And you also have to get into a service academy with a nomination from a Congressman or Vice President or (less likely to pass selection) go through ROTC in college.
Granted even you don't make pilot, being an officer in the military is a ridiculously good way to start a career that you don't get in the private sector. Like you said- they pay for your training and your degree, so you're making close to $40k a year right out the door without owing a dime. That's without considering all the other side benefits even the enlisted grunts get for taking the risk of coming home in a flag-draped coffin. A lot of those benefits don't dry up when you leave the service, either.
