Most of them look fairly normal, though; I forget where but there is a database for pretty much every vtuber out there and who they are/what they did before going virtual, at least on the Japanese side. Some of them don't have any archives at all other than past twitter accounts or NND shit, others actually have older videos from years prior.

As a whole? Not a whole lot. Cover's main revenue comes from Youtube. The issue is that pissing off the Chinese pisses of the people holding them up from the bottom.

Turbosimp Lyger actually did a big write-up over on the official reddit about it, but the short version is this: Cover as a tech startup never intended to make idols a thing, and just wanted to have them as mascots for their facetracking app. The Chinese latched onto them and helped the hololive idol project start making real money, basically with fansubbers who Cover contacted to help get them established on bilibili. Fubuki supposedly earns 60% of her revenue from Bilibili shit compared to her Youtube take, for example.

Leaving the Chinese market basically is biting the hand that feeds since Cover kind of needs that market to keep operating in the black. They've gotten big enough outside of it that they could probably cut them off and struggle for a few months, but we don't have an in-depth look at their financials and it's all just fucking guesswork. It also would piss off their domestic investors if they were to just abandon China.

I was unsure but then I saw the absolutely shitty autotranslations and format. That's definitely it. Honestly I don't really care about who they were in the past since I tend to think of the vtuber as just another role the actor/actress is playing in addition to a role they did previously. I'm a big fan of Calli's as an example and the fact that she's also DEMONDICE Karen doesn't really matter to me since she's still entertaining as Calli.

What do you guys think? You think Hololive EN has a ticking time bomb with Kiara in their hands? Probably even more so now that her recent streams have been plagued with technical failures?

Frankly, I originally thought either Amelia or Gura might be the first to have an incident, but it's starting to look a lot more likely that Kiara COULD be the first to have a meltdown if she doesn't start playing a little closer to her strengths.

Aside from being Austrian, what controversy is Keeki actually a part of? Most I heard is that she spoke about her experience as a foreign idol after leaving the company she was working with in Japan and going independent, and she didn't even say anything disparaging.

Does that really matter? The only prior stuff of Matsuri, for example, was an old NND video from 2016 where she was fat. She basically admitted that on stream that she used to eat a lot anyway so there's zero mistaking that it was her at one point and she supposedly lost a lot of weight since then.

That was because her pc was a piece of shit, we are talking about her rig is literally a APU that is why she only play console games and minecraft, if you want to go for that metric Polka would be also a ticking bomb, it required Botan to build a rig for her because her poltato pc could not handle the live2d software and craftopia at the same time

Adding onto this, the dude who harassed her was named Jrcach and when she first debuted /jp/ and crossboarder friends found Keekihime's epic and cool takes on transphobia and BLM. Also someone on lolcow said she slept with streamers from NicoNicoDouga as a minor but I don't really wanna look for info on that so take that one with a grain of salt.

She probably is a ticking time bomb though because of what I've seen of her she's very dramatic behavior wise and not in a good way, very attentionwhorish in group streams and LOUD, talks over them, I know everyone does that on streams but every group stream I've watched for like 5 minutes has her screeching over the others.
iirc some of her member streams she's just self loathing the entire time but don't take my word on that 'cause I don't pay no simpbux.
I feel it's only a matter of time before she blunders on stream and gets Aloe'd.

Here's my take on this: considering at the time that all this happened (including that interview) she was like 18-19. Currently she's in her mid twenties. Everyone did stupid shit when they were younger and reinvented themselves in some way so I'm not one to hold someone responsible for the things they did when they were young and stupid. Nyanners is a great example of that since she disavowed her former pedobaiting self to become more of a generic gremlin and it seems to have worked out for her. IIRC she's like in her early 30's now or some shit so this is also understandable.

The worst thing she's done so far is thirst hard for Calli, and it seems like she has grown up a bit. Time will tell if she's a powder keg but I'm willing to bet she isn't and is just in a better place mentally. I'm involved in the hololive community elsewhere and one thing I notice consistently is that most people who do vtubing as a living (or online content creation in general) tend to have a few screws loose. I should know, I kind of want to break into online content creation as a hobby and have way more than a few screws loose.

I like to imagine the 5th Gen and EN interviews were done over skype or something, where you just can't get that preternatural wrong feeling about your new hires. I'm talking shit but honestly she's the second best out of the 5th bunch.

Because she's Nobuhime, that's how. Polka has a very good understanding of the Internet landscape and was probably the single most popular get for the JP side of things when she debuted, considering people had already guessed who she was from the minute she started talking. Obviously Senzawa was a bigger pull, but EN hadn't debuted at that point in time.

That and despite Polka being fucking nuts, she's also damn smart. Far as I can tell she's the only person in the entire company who bothers fucking reading to her audience and she tends to pick out some pretty good shit, too. I think she admitted that at one point she wanted to be a librarian so she's pretty well-read. A lot of the girls act in ways that betrays their true intelligence, which is all part of the act to an extent.

Keekihime's drama is old sure it's still bizarre and her behavior outside of Hololive is still the same whiny, woe is me, attention whoring behavior she's been known for. Only got one screencap saved but it applies:

You can be mental while VTubing yeah but she's fucking obnoxious compared to the rest of HoloEN, hell it's not like the other girls from the JP side where it's mostly acting when they're being crazy either. I'll take Demondice's bad acting over Keekihime's cringe behavior.

Also of note Nyanners literally only said that to avoid Twitter outrage for being pedobait during Venti drama, she still does the same exact "uwu i'm a kawayaeyeee animu girl whos also HENTAI" act on streams with Projekt Melody and those other English indie VTubers.
