It's not even just that. Movie theaters have been dying for decades due to advancements in the world surrounding it. They were pretty much doomed to die when the home video market took off. Then to add to it we had the growth of the internet and piracy. Then on demand services and streaming. Coupled with growing costs to simply to go to a movie theaters. COVID and the decline of Hollywood creativity are simply the final nails in the coffin of the movie theater business.

It was going to come eventually whether Bob wants to admit it or not. He of course wants a scapegoat to pin it on since it displeases him.

Let's be honest right now. If the Coof didn't happen, the theatres would've still died in maybe about 10 years with streaming becoming even bigger.

At this point, it's really a mercy kill. The golden age of the movie theater has ended about 10 years ago and there are no Spielbergs, Tarantinos or Scorseses on the horizon that will make new cult classics that will make people go to the theater.

He could find some form of fulfilment and happiness that way. Sadly that did not happen, because like with every zero-sum obsessed narcissist, it's never good enough unless you're on top.

Bob is now 40. He does some introspection.
No meaningful friends to fall back on, morbidly obese, no savings, no meaningful property, no trade skills, no love life, no aspirations or dreams. Nothing.

He then gets to check out his bullies on social media. If he's miserable then surely his enemies (who likely long forgotten about him) suffer more.
Plenty of friends, still sporting six-packs, trust funds, mortgage, trade school diplomas, married with children, productive hobbies focusing effort on creation rather than someone else's creation. Pretty good life.

there's no creative film types these days because back when the "classics" were being made companies actually took risks and didn't publish woke garbage and blackwash characters .
