I have done a quick search, and it appears nobody had brought up this two-week-old drama. Then, I shall do it. I have found some entertainment in it, and somebody here may do too.
Dramatis personae:
Curio, a non-binary breadtuber. Has an offensively bad haircut, like a lefty take on Donald Trump’s combover.
Joseph Anderson, a video essayist on games. Makes videos that are several hours long.
YouTube commenters, the lowest form of life.
Itterasshai, your humble servant.
Scene 1. Curio’s channel.
Curio uploads the third entry in their series on The Witcher franchise,
The Ballad of Geralt the Fanboy: A Look at the Critical Reception of The Witcher Games. In it, they criticise, among other people, Joseph Anderson. They contend Joseph Anderson’s take on elves can be used to justify real-world racism. At the end, Curio suggests Joseph Anderson shares a link to an
info page about the persecution of Polish LGBTQ+ people.
Scene 2. Video’s comment section.
Joseph Anderson finds out he got criticised and
shows up in the comment section to argue back. His contends he got misrepresented and that the elves in The Witcher franchise are not directly analogous to any human race. This prompts other commenters to argue back at him, and the argument continues for some eighty messages, each being longer than the previous one. From time to time, somebody chimes in to say, ‘You have all the time to be wrong in the comments, but no time to share the link? Smh.’ Eventually, Curio says they will not have an argument in the comment section and may speak in DMs instead, and Joseph Anderson exits.
Scene 3. Itterasshai’s room.
Itterasshai is idly scrolling through Twitter and sees Joseph Anderson’s reply to a tweet asking him about his take on Curio’s video:
‘I responded to it in their comment section last night. Unfortunately, it’s been disliked to the bottom of the comment page, I think. So you’ll have to go scrolling to find it.’ There are cryptic replies below:
‘Just share the link. People are suffering, even being beaten and called subhuman.’ Curiosity piqued, Itterasshai plays the video.
