DOOM

I was under the impression that the DLC's soundtrack was all the new guys' stuff. I imagine they want to minimize reliance on Mick's material, given that they are unlikely to work with him again(not that I blame them, given that if their account is even remotely accurate he 100% burned that bridge himself.)
No I mean there were 2 guys working on the dlc soundtrack, and the song from the trailer and maybe a lot of part 1 was the other person besides Hulshult they brought on.

I'm guessing yes. I couldn't find a good use for the plasma in general. In 2016, there was at least a use for it to stun pinkies and summoners.

The beam rifle is pretty good for stunning larger enemies. I used it mostly on Barons and occasionally Cyber Mancubi. Otherwise yeah it kind of sucks.

I prefer to freeze or falter Cyber Mancubi then go for Blood Punch SS. For Barons, I just go for Rocket Burst spam or PB>SS>Ballista.

I tried using the beam initially and I just couldn't stand it. I've seen some use it well though.

Fighting enemies in that misty swamp was not fun. At all.

Way too few extra lives even with the support rune, too.

Double Marauders/Buff Totem Marauder isn't that hard, really.

They said the beam/spirit mechanic was done specifically to make the SSG/Ballista combo less spammable, since they share the same ammo pool.

The movement slowdown when you're using the beam sucks dick though, especially in the arenas (like the final one) where there' s a bajillion things flying around.

Anyone else really like that the dlc is way less stingy with bfg ammo, presumably because the crucible is gone?

Yeah I think his name was David Levy? I'm not sure they've specified who worked on what, but I think the first level BGM was tweeted out by Andy, so I assume he did that one. I think Levy tweeted out the trailer music, so maybe that was him. Beyond that I have no idea who worked on what.

In any event, level 2 completed. Burned through all extra lives quickly, which is to be expected because I am stubborn and refuse to turn the difficulty down from nightmare. Significantly tougher than level 1. The final encounter in particular is downright frustrating. Inivi-whips are not that bad. Just like prowlers, set them on fire and the invisibility ceases to be a big issue. Spirits just plain hurt. The faster attacks are bad enough, but the immunity to faltering is what really makes possessed demons scary. Always have an ice bomb handy when you take one down to buy yourself time to zap it.

Storywise, I assume Samur is kill, then? Apparently Doomguy is bringing back the Dark Lord's sphere so he can kill him too? Vega/Father's voiceover shows up in the trailer, though, so maybe he's not dead. Still not a huge fan of this turn of events. It was pretty funny hearing the Intern nervously ask you why your mission says to destroy the life sphere rather than retrieve it.

So, I completed the DLC earlier.

Samur got shafted like a motherfucker. Dude followed the Father's orders to the letter, helped Doomguy become a demigod, and kept humanity from getting overwhelmed. For doing all these feats, his reward was getting fucked over by Doomguy, turning into a bigger abomination than the Khan Maykr, and getting dismissed by the Father. I'm morbidly curious about how much more Part 2 can screw him over, the poor bastard just can't catch a break.

Oh, and the Dark Lord being Doomguy from an alternate timeline was sort of crazy.

That last fight is a meatgrinder that I probably made worse by using all my bfg ammo to cheese the secret fights. Did everyone here nuke down the Pain Elemental or Dreadknight Spirit first? I need to test it more, but I feel like my idea from a few pages ago about the Spirits giving love to the Unmaker in addition to the plasma gun might bear fruit. I haven’t tested that yet because as I said earlier I used all my bfg ammo to cheese things for cosmetics.

I wasted my BFG ammo earlier in the fight because I didn't realize how long it would be. I would like to try it again and see how much easier it would make the fight.

I tried going after the Pain Elemental first because it was airborne, but then I realized it didn't matter because the Dread Knight could follow me up the platforms. I ended up killing the Dread Knight first more or less by accident because there was so much shit flying at me it was hard to concentrate on one target. That Pain Elemental just wouldn't die.

My idea for cheesing the spirits in the dlc involves using the unmaker to nuke the host down and freezing anything nearby so you don’t have to dance as much with the beam.
How do you feel about the new runes?

They're an interesting idea that honestly doesn't get enough time to breath with the short length of the campaign. I ended up using the one that allowed you to regain a lost life the whole way through, though I would like to experiment with the others on a replay, especially the one that unleashes a concussive blast when you take out a demon's weak point.

When Part 2 comes out, I'd like to see what else they come up with, because I like the concept and there's a lot of potential for it.

I've been giving it some thought, and I think I like the idea of Doom Eternal, but the game itself is a chore for me to play. I played the base game on Hurt Me Plenty and was completely worn out by the end of it (I've mentioned here that I hated the last two boss fights). I decided to take a blow to my ego and play the DLC on I'm Too Young To Die. One level in, and I'm right back to the "there is too much to keep track of" and "this game makes me feel like an old man" and "I don't care, just end it" thoughts I had at the end of the main game.
I think DE has good ideas, but they overdid it for me. Glad others are enjoying it, but ultimately I think it's too much for me.

And I liked the plot in Doom 2016, but it's gotten really retarded in Eternal.

Really not a fan of the design decisions here. Only partway through the green hell level and I'm just not having fun anymore. The only fun I've had with the whole DLC was in the Slayer Gate, which were also my favorite part of the base game.

Marauders still aren't fun to fight in any scenario other than 1v1. Two of them is retarded and the one buffed by the rune is even worse. Spirits are another horrible fucking design choice that remove any semblance of flow or balance to combat by removing enemy weak points and making you swap weapons, swap to an otherwise shit mod, and stare at the thing while things kill you.

The base game and 2016 are fun because of the arenas being well put together and the enemy groups being challenging and satisfying. This DLC seems like it was made with annoyance and frustration in mind rather than actual challenge. I have to turn the difficulty down to deal with the retard Marauders but then back up because the other fights are too easy otherwise.

Also as someone who has been rooting for Sam from the beginning, the story is fucking gay.

And just to be clear, I beat the entire story and all the Master Levels on Ultra-Violence with very little frustration.

Why is the bfg ammo not respawning when you replay the levels holy shit.
Edit: There seems to be some in the 2nd part of dlc stage 1. I could have sworn there was some in first part of that.

are you on a different difficulty?

I am fairly certain that Nightmare has less BFG ammo because despite people here saying there is "Lots" I have seen..1.

Is Blood Punch even fixed? I actually do like Eternal, but greatly dislike certain parts of it. The buggy/broken parts of it are flat out infuriating.
