Gamergate: The Movie - Unfortunately a real thing being made - Hide the booze so Jaimas doesn’t drink himself to death

That's the funny thing about the pro scene, they're all asians, no matter where the team is from. Commentators use the term "foreign" for non-asians.
I would chalk it up to being a result of different cultural mindsets and approaches to competitive activities than the cultural mindset that exists in the West. It sounds a bit silly to say it, but they train rather hard and are pushed much more intensely to do well, moreso than non-asian competitors.

It's not just e-sports, though that's where it's most visible. Previously european-dominated 'real' sports are seeing a similar thing, too, fencing (the sport) especially on a state to international level.

Calling it now: There will be a super amazing girl gamer, but her conservative, abusive father doesn't want her to waste her time with eSports. He will disown her or something equally silly, while her mom will secretly support her or tell her husband to stop being an asshole. By the end, he learns his lesson and we'll see him with a "I'm with her" button. Chances are, the mother character will reveal that she won a Pacman tourney in the 80s but was abused by gamers back then and had to quit her career or something.

Pfha. So I guess the gravytrain came to a stop and she is now having to deal with being an utterly toxic personality with a long history of manipulation, abuse and lies that caught up with her? Well, too bad.
Someone should remind her that this is the future that she chose herself. Or, you know, tweet her nude photos at her to remind her they will never go away... might as well be a decent choice.
I think Cool Runners did the whole 'coach with a bad past of negative press and duplicitous activities' backstory the best, it even delved a bit into why athletes who've cheated did what they did. Heck, they could just copy it.

The coach's backstory could be that she was some sort of trailblazer in the early 2000s competitive scene. Her fall from grace would be that she felt so pressured to win this one critical competitive tourney/match, perhaps due to having to pay for medical bills of a loved one, maybe to support a child, or some other empathetic justification for cheating, that she ended up doing something.

What that 'something' could be might be taking disallowed medication to improve her concentration, something that we've seen happen in the early days of competitive gaming, or even just using an aimbot so that she didn't lose.

Framing her backstory as a 'gamergate-like controversy' just gives off a really negative impression of how they intend to show this character, when she could be so much better. Granted, they may have just namedropped 'gamergate' to generate press buzz, and we know nothing about her outside of that little tidbit.

It's probably going to be some kind of revisionist history horseshit wanting to paint gaming culture of yesteryear as sexist, when it really never really was or at least was not as much as they would want you to believe.

I wish we could get a sequel to Grandma's Boy instead.

Wow, I wasn't even aware of some of this stuff (Anne Rice is based?)

The whole thing was such a horrible shitshow that truly set the tone for the modern world, I miss the days before all that shit so fucking much, but it also really speaks to the true power women have in our society, some people simply can not call a cunt a cunt no matter how big of a cunt they are.

But I wasn't aware the UN apologized and redacted the Quinn and Sarkeesian visit, that cheers me up.

On a side note Nyberg was involved with the site Galbadia Hotel weren't they? I used to be a member of the forums there but I never posted much and don't remember Nyberg specifically.
The reason Quinn's defenders raced to her defense has nothing to do with women and everything to do with the fact that she was an intersecting point in multiple communities that she had worked her way into like the tumor she is. All her associates were in it because they hoped to be enriched by backing her (Jake Alley) or because they were already part of the communities she was part of (Goons, SJWs, Indie Game Shitters, etc). Quinn had fucked too many people and made too many powerful connections to let herself be taken down, and the end result of this was that her supporters pulled their power move (an attempt to unilaterally sieze gaming as a community) way before they were going to be able to pull it off, presumably thinking they'd have as easy a time as they had with other communities.

General consensus among those who chronicled GG extensively is that they lost the Autism Holy War the nanosecond the Gamers Are Over barrage dropped in response to the Game Journo Pros leaks.

The UN Women CVAWG report is here, if you want to see it. Highlights include half the citations not being what they claim to be, several citations that lead to paywall sites, and one citation that cites a fucking hard drive location.

And yes, Nyberg was the owner of Galbadia Hotel.

The fact that they're calling it 1UP tells me everything.
Do modern gamers even know what a 1UP even is? Does the life system even exist anymore?

I imagine some 45 year old producers sitting in a meeting going:
Asshole 1: "What do we know about video games?"
Asshole 2: "Well, when Mario gets 100 coins in the NES game, he get's a 1UP"
Asshole 1: "THAT'S BRILLIANT!!!"

Can't wait to hear Ellen "forehead" Page say things like "frag" or "camper" for the first time in her life.

But for people not directly involved with her, for your average SJW rabble, they came to her defense because she was a woman, that was it, they just couldn't handle the idea that a woman could actually be a bad person and that the "sexists" could be right, if we didn't have the cultural climate that sees women as superior to men, they never would have been able to as effectively use the "sexism" card just like Sarkissian couldn't have gone as far as she did, that was just something that was hiding below the surface of society, the fact that many people see women as inherently better than men, even if they didn't consciously realize it or would admit it.

I saw Anthony Burch of all people more or less admit that he realizes Quinn is a bad person but still can't really come out and say it because he still hates GG so much and doesn't want them to "win"

Also Nyberg was the actual owner of Galbadia Hotel? Wow, I wasn't aware but the site stopped adding new MP3s after 2006 and I barely ever posted or even visited the forums at all.

The real reason Burch doesn't have the balls to come out and say it is because Quinn will have his balls if he so much as tries.

People already suspect Burch is some kind of creepy sex pervert, Quinn could bandy about a simple suggestion he did impropriety and his own side would tear out his organs and eat them.

I prefer "wormed her way into." She has never worked.

Either they'll do that or they get someone to render "game" footage and it'll be some super generic looking shooter or MOBA or whatever.
This raises an interesting question about what genre of game the film will have. A MOBA is the "inspiration" but it's not really understandable to the average joe and doesn't really have "win moments". An FPS is more fitting cinematically but it will look bad due to the limited field of view of an individual player. In general, having the viewer looking at a character looking at a screen is ridiculous.

“Gamergate: The Movie” is contradictory by nature since video games are not movies. They’re both different forms of entertainment that not even Hideo Kojima would partake in.

Hang on, this has potential but they need to be ballsy.

Have the first season be the generic 'girl power' shit that has been done a thousand times. They are the underdogs that win in the end because the plot they demands they do. Then in the final scene the obvious boy antagonist makes a phonecall to a myserious person before disappearing. He then comes back in full School Shooter garb and starts gunning people down before an heroing. Then the two main characters turn over his body to find he is wearing a shirt with a conspicuous logo on it.

That logo...
