Here's something. About a year before they were making Beyond Two Souls. David Cage met with Ellen Page and pulled a literal scrapbook of her with pictures of her from childhood to the time they met pulled off of Google for 12 months.

They couldn't make it into a gamd because only SWEATY LOSERS and ALT RIGHT GAMERS play games and not Normies, the people they want to impress and spread the message to. Games aren't the highest form of art nor the most respected, movies are in their eyes. You can get the sense a good number of small time (and a few large time) developers and writers are failed movie and tv writers (like Neil Druckman who finally got his own tv show with the walking dead). They don't feel games are legit enough yet, its a Marvel movie or bust.

The way progressives/SJWs talk about GooberGrape, you’d think that it was a massive 9/11-style terrorist attack rather than an internet slapfight. They’re just so assmad that anyone had the audacity to tell them to pound sand when they were spouting off their Jack Thompson-esque (but from a left-wing perspective) talking points about video games causing real-world harm and attempting to infiltrate the medium for personal gain.

Remember the days when gaming threatened to go mainstream? When they talked about it being “another Hollywood”? When filmmakers like John Woo and Steven Spielberg we’re getting in on producing games? Adam Sessler even said he thought the box office for the first Iron Man was going to suffer because it was releasing at the same time as Grand Theft Auto 4.

They sure pissed all that away, of course gaming flirting with the mainstream is why SJW carpet baggers started showing up in the first place and it also mean games getting dumbed down and difficulty being stripped out, so it’s not a bad thing that it never happened I guess, but it still sucks that the mainstream view now is that we’re all ISIS wannabes.

If it helps, gaming will probably be taken more seriously in the next 10-20 years by virtue of more children who grew up playing games becoming adults. We're slowly getting now as well.

20 years ago the old generation thought we would become violent thugs. Today, there's still some that do on both sides: either we will start shooting up schools and become sexist racist as the left says or just shoot up schools and families like the right says. But the majority of those people are eventually going to die off, whether it's ideologically or by being ancient. Unless you go to a left leaning college area, you'd be hard pressed to find people under ~35 that think gamers are monsters.

I wish I could tell you why games aren't taken as seriously as movies though. Executives see the numbers on game sales and have been really into em, so there's that at least.

You're right, comic books had a disreputable reputation for decades but eventually enough generations grew up with them for that to go away, video games will probably be the same.

But it's just interesting to look back at the late 2000s and early 2010s when it seemed like it was already happening for games, until the political in-fighting started up and ruined it, it's just an interesting "what if?" scenario for me to imagine what gaming going "mainstream" without all the political BS could have been like.

Spielberg's canceled LMNO is a good snapshot of what I'm talking about.

Honestly unless it becomes a cult hit amongst non-critics and journalist this movie is going to be really fucking embarrassing (moreso than it already). You lost, then you made a shitty movie about your oppressuhion, passive aggressively cry typing in video form. On top of it all, no one cares to watch your movie. Like a tiramisu of embarrassment.

I'd say shame on them for making the rest of us lady gamers look like easily hurt pussies but no one realistically will care.

That's the irony of all this is is that's a disservice to female gamers, saying female gamers can't take a little trash talk as well as any guy, that they can't be amused by sexy female characters and can only feel threated (because sending the message that you should always compare yourself to media images instead of having a strong sense of self worth is totally a good thing) and that they can't simply love video games just because.

But the secret behind all this SJW shit is it's not actually about women and minorities or whatever, it's about mind control, putting it under the guise of helping women and minorities is just the spoonful of sugar for the poison medicine of what it's really all about and that's for the media to have the power to be able to control what you say, what you do and what you think, that's why they can't let Gamergate go, it's one of the first times the conditioning broke down in a big way and they can't have that.

This is what it's always been about is power, the power to control people's minds and the main method for doing so is preying on people's better nature and emotions ("You don't want to be sexist/racist do you? Now buy our product and vote for our candidate.") it's never had diddly squat to do with actually helping people.

Well, gaming is mainstream and has made far more money than Hollywood for over a decade now.
However, movie-making works entirely different, so we didn't end up so much with a new Hollywood where most major gaming studios conglomerate, they are all loosely spread out over the map.

I dunno, gaming isn't a particularly modern thing. Gaming consoles have been around for 50 years or so, even mainstream gaming with huge numbers of players has been around for over a decade, I doubt that gaming will change that much in views of the regular audience. Rather, there will be tribalism regarding what games people play. Basically, it's no longer about non-gamer jocks calling gamers nerds like 20 years ago, it's not Halo-fans calling fans of niche games nerds.
