The internet has given rise to platforms where people seek out such individuals (see: here) and give them an immense amount of negative attention. They dislike the fact that the attention is negative, but they can't bring themselves to give up the ring of power (the attention we're giving them), so they keep coming back to the audience of people they have gained to try to turn the crowd's opinion of them. This has almost never worked*, and instead it tends to encourage and increase the negative attention they receive. This continues until the audience loses interest or the lolcow can't reach their audience anymore.

Dulles, 356 U.S. 86 (1958 ) it was declared that "The Court recognized in that case that the words of the Amendment are not precise, and that their scope is not static. The Amendment must draw its meaning from the evolving standards of decency that mark the progress of a maturing society.". So, If we were conclude that maybe in today's day and age it would be reasonable to conclude this was cruel and unjust, this might just work.
