Can someone translate this for me? I'm not sure if I'm too stupid to understand this post or not stupid enough.
I understand the part about being angry about poor treatment, and the primary focus on Judaism being about tragedy/pogroms/the holocaust, but:
  • referring to a whole ethnic group as "intellectuals" as the noun is bizarre, especially since it's coming after "ancient" and "distant"- a generic word like "people" or "culture" or "ethnoreligion" would make way more sense
  • Maybe I just have something against the word "intellectual"- it just strikes me as pretentious when used unironically
  • The mythical foundation doesn't make any sense at all. Like I literally have no idea where to start on that.
  • I don't understand the "rhetorical tool"/"hypothetical" thing either. But I also don't have a background in studying history/religion. So.
  • The last paragraph, the "when we're angry about[...] angry about you" sounds like OP is blaming the reader for the way she/Jewish people have been treated. Could just be from having those sentences one after the other.
What this person is saying could be 100% reasonable, but the wording is so odd that it's hard to follow. Or maybe my English is just bad.

ok but most of these posts are actually funny and I'm so happy that I happened to see a reference to this on twitter and was able to open up Tumblr and relive 2011-2014 but with the sweet, shimmery edge of surreality that comes with 2020 and also watching the most busted-ass performances imaginable in the clip from the show where one guy just like cries and talks nonsense while the other one visibly struggles to not commit a hate crime

Jewish men in particular are more idealized as being scholars, not fighters. Historically, Jewish masculinity, from what I've seen, is about the image of an intelligent old grandpa, some old rabbi who knows everything and shares that knowledge to help his community. Otherwise, yeah, it's mostly just "do you care about Jewish people as more than a 'gotcha' to look smart in political debates?" The "you" isn't a general across the board "damn you goyim", I don't think, as much as a "would you still side with Jewish people if Jewish people disagreed with you on something (e.g. you were trying to use them as a token in an argument and they actually don't believe in what you were saying they did) or would you turn around and drop them for not playing to your narrative". I think it's reasonable from my perspective, just overwritten.

There's been a lot of "you don't care about me, give me money" posts on Tumblr recently. Like, an excessive amount. Is that kind of guilt-tripping effective?

I think its supposed to invoke a feeling of "oh, if i dont donate/share, im a bad person". Especially with the ones saying "Dont scroll!"
