I’d like to know what happen between White Wolf and Harlan Ellison.

White Wolf was supposed to publish 20 volumes of the collected works of Harlan Ellison called Edgeworks but they only printed 4 books. I’m guessing Harlan didn’t like the typos or misprinting the date of his mother’s death.
Ellison wasn't exactly a 'people person' to start with, and having White Wolf of all people print collections of his work just strikes me as an exercise in frustration.

I mean, let's be honest. This is the guy who got hired as a consultant on Disney's The Black Hole, and was kicked out by lunchtime for proposing a pornographic movie using Disney characters. With Roy fuckin' Disney and the other execs within earshot.

Looking forward to this thread.

I'm honestly surprised that White Wolf and Onyx Path didn't make the cut. If you need more info on them, I'll be glad to help.

World of Darkness is a whole beast in and of itself. The drama surrounding White Wolf and its successors is a really interesting story.

In the 90's, White Wolf was the second-biggest RPG company ever and was primed to become the top dog as TSR was in its infamous death spiral period under Lorraine Williams. The early World of Darkness games are actually pretty good even today and they were genuinely groundbreaking back in the 90's but White Wolf's a textbook example of a fall from grace.

Vampire: The Masquerade was the only game to have ever come close to outselling D&D until Pathfinder 1E actually did it. Of course, Pathfinder 1E started out as a glorified clone of D&D 3.5 and this was during the 4E days, often considered D&D's lowest point.

Nowadays White Wolf is a dead husk and the different successor groups are all a weird mix of pretentious unironic SJW's who hate damn near everything (Onyx Path) or are practically dead in and of themselves (By Night Studios)
I’ve got some big feels on this one so consider this a place holder for later (and I’ll edit this post tonight) but the NuWW debacle was several years in the making and not entirely their fault.

He actually suggested it as a joke, if I remember right. Of course, it still doesn’t excuse loudly continuing the joke past the point of stunned silence while the execs were next door.

Excited about the thread!

Minor detail. Desborough and Pundit are different people.

Desborough‘s schtick is being an edgelord, but he’s also, I dunno... kinda oblivious?

Pundit’s just an outspoken conservative who thinks the hobby is getting pussified.
I’ll get that fixed. Thanks for pointing it out!
Hello I also made a thread on this but it failed because it was my first try :dienull: . Mabye you could use some of the stuff in it? Its pretty old news by now: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/awful-board-games-and-the-people-who-play-them.72506/
I added some relevant information from those threads. F.A.T.A.L. and Onyx Path needed to be included for sure. I put in your screenshots and credited you as well.

Some updates on RPG.net, from their thread:

"We decided to associate our female mods with perhaps the single most egregious example of an idiotic, bone headed, feels-over-reals, affirmative action hire, misandrist, nasty, cunt in modern media because we are Smart People."

Witness him, brothers. This is how you burn your account and walk away.

A friendly remember that you are not allowed to criticize women or mods. And criticizing a woman mod is just the worst.

I used to have the full preview rulebook somewhere but I lost it
I’ve read enough stories and seen enough videos about players/DM trying to show horn in romance into a game so why would it be a good idea to make that the whole game. The fact it not only met its goal but fucking destroyed it makes me wonder who the hell is this for? The dime a dozen “queer” people in table top RPGs or the thirsty loners who wanna play out their discord RP fantasies.

Yes the people who designed the game look exactly like what you’re expecting and their about read like a tumblr bio

This is but a small sample of the giant team of people who made what ever this is. Also one of the stretch goals was I kid you not a 10% higher payment for staff so good for them that they got it I suppose.

Thirsty Sword Lesbians battle the Lady of Chains when her enforcers march down from the frosty north. They rocket through the stars to safeguard diplomats ending a generations-old conflict. They sip tea together and share shy glances at the corner cafe with their old classmates and comrades. Even when swords are crossed, they have the potential to connect more deeply than anyone expects.

A sword duel can end in kissing, a witch can gain her power by helping others find love, and an entire campaign can be built around vagabond matchmakers piloting their sentient gay spaceship from system to system.

This ... this literally sounds like a parody RPG you might find in the next Grand Theft Auto.

Are X cards an actual thing in tabletop? I've heard of some autistic shit where every player has a notecard with an X on it that they tap to silently tell the others that they're being triggered and everybody else is required to instantly and unconditionally comply.

I find myself wondering of the ratio of 'that guy' in sjws vs anti sjw's. So far it's been 50/50 but their's a lot of weird nuances for example sjw creepers are a almost always women. I really prefered it when they didnt have ideological camoflage
It's extra hard to tell because I always assumed a real life encounter with 'that guy' is incredibly rare. At the very least 'that guy' never sticks around that long in a person to person game. Most of these people screaming on the internet don't have real friends to play with, mostly because they don't have real friends. They have weird assholes that ass pat them online. Most of the time 'that guy' just isn't invited back and any inquiries are answered with, "game is canceled".

These people probably don't even play at all though, they just have some vague idea of what tabletop gaming is and ruin conventions and random roll20 games sometimes. The greentexts on /tg/ are either fake or super rare occurrences.

That's not to say we don't have 'that guy' stories of our own, of course. I certainly do.

I haven’t seen it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a thing in San Fran or Portland.

People paid 300,000 DOLLARS for this atrocious sexist and racist book? The stretch goal writers are clearly chosen from Twitter as they used their pronouns in the bio.

This guy is my favorite:
sjw_rapist.png

He has clearly raped a woman that he convinced that he was an ally of her feminst cause and probably has a bucket of HRT that he's willing to pass around at parties just in the off chance someone will touch his dick. The gay part is a front just to get close to anything with tits that he can gaslight into rubbing his penis against.

All the writers on this fucking KS are like this except the one latino guy who looks like he's just trying to up his publishing cred.

I’d say it’s about 50/50 but every That Guy I’ve met had very strong political beliefs and generally was very abrasive.

I’d say that’s generally true. They burn bridges and manage to get kicked from every group.

There was one guy I knew of that was a good example of That Guy. He really wanted there to be female marines... but he was a die hard and unapologetic Trump supporter so he pissed off most of the people who might have been sympathetic to his autistic campaign.

George was the epitome of That Guy. He was according to sources I didn't screencap at the time, a terrible DM. There is some evidence here but he liked to insert his own Gary Stus into the campaigns and especially into one Deathwatch campaign he DM’d. He also goes by George Winters, BloodAngelCaptain, and Bliss Twilight.

Some believed he was an elaborate troll. Which is part of the reason he was banned from so many groups and other 40k communities.

He really really hated 8th edition even though he had previously lambasted 7th edition. He was a Blood Angel player and was a sore loser. He raged quit a few times. So he decided to try to make 7th edition rules for 8th edition models.

I checked up on him recently, and he’s still pretending to have a girlfriend who happens to help write his fap fiction.
He wrote a couple of stories: Azalea: preface, ch 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

He also started a story about a mermaid and had some white knights because he’s still getting trolled for some reason: intro, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I wouldn’t be surprised if he trooned out.

Are X cards an actual thing in tabletop? I've heard of some autistic shit where every player has a notecard with an X on it that they tap to silently tell the others that they're being triggered and everybody else is required to instantly and unconditionally comply.
I’ve never heard of them being used I think the whole idea comes from some opinions article.

Closest I've seen was in a one shot online game where one player was spamming x while the GM was trying to describe the scene

The only time I've ever seen one used is at a table of pasty neckbeards playing Pathfinder Society trying to persuade some m'ladies to join them.

One of the biggest proponents of the X card and similar measures was Adam Koebel, and well... just look at what happened to him.
