Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

In "cartoons for actual babies" news, Cailou got cancelled after all these years and both parents and childless weirdos are dancing on its grave. I thought this got canned long ago, boring little bitch was no Arthur.
Caillou ended, iirc, a long time ago and only lives on as a bunch of badly animated flash cartoons from Wildbrain on YouTube.

I'm assuming this was probably an announcement to say that they are going to stop rerunning Caillou on the network entirely.

If you get MeTV they've started airing cartoons. An hour every weekday morning, and three hours Saturday mornings - an hour of Fleischer, then MGM, then Warner Bros. in that order.
I like this.

But what specifically are they airing? Any specific eras of Fleischer, MGM, and WB?

Craig McCracken's new series comes out next month:

What do you all think?
People were starting to get worried that there wasn’t enough promotion for it after a few months so good to see a trailer for it. The art looks neat and retro so hopefully Craig McCracken doesn’t get screwed over for the umpteenth time.

I wonder if this will be the serialized lore show he wanted Wander Over Yonder to become.
So what's so bad about Cailou? I hear that many parents hate it because not only it doesn't really teach anything but also encorages kids to act like entitled pieces of shit. I got it right?
You’re not wrong but it’s still a case where the hatedom is much more autistic than any fanbase. No matter what side it is, children’s cartoons are weirdo magnets.
Looks neat. When it comes to cartoons, Netflix has probably done better than Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon put together. Disney is better with the likes of Tangled etc. but I feel like they're slipping slightly.
In terms of quality there is variety on Netflix. You have gems like Klaus and Hilda, Dreamworks Animation is eh, there’s finally action animation for adults, and then you have shit like Big Mouth and DeadEndia.
Hopefully they keep up the good stuff and not get too corporate.

I do wonder now can Alex Hirsch finally make a second cartoon series now that soon Trump will be out of office and he will have noting to complain about anymore. Seriously it ignores me how the guy judges other shows yet he only made one that did good. That doesn't make you a genius, it makes you a one hit wonder if you won't do a second one and just complainon Twitter all day.

Well there was that project he had with Netflix but there hasn’t been word on it since 2018.
Then there was his writing credits for Into the Spider-Verse and Detective Pikachu...which didn’t make it to the final product.
Either Trump really was holding him back (fingers crossed) or he really is a one hit wonder. Even his own filmography makes him sound more like a voice actor than an animator.

And then there was his work on Amphibia.

...Where he played a frog Grunkle Stan/frog Schmebulock and basically just did the wax figure premise again, only this time they’re real and Stan’s the bad guy.

So it’s totally different.

Don’t forget Frog Soos. And as an added bonus, Matt Braly just so happened to be a storyboarder on Gravity Falls.

I know it was supposed to be a cute tribute to a show fans loved but it just comes off as so circlejerk-y.

And don’t forget his work on Owl House, where he... basically plays a version of Claptrap, of all possible characters. That’s the best way to describe it.

Honestly I always thought Hirsch would be better suited in a producer position rather than part of the actual day-to-day creative process. He has/had a talent for finding talent and putting together strong creative teams, and that could be put to good use on someone else’s project where he personally doesn’t have to live in his office and stay up three days straight every week trying to meet deadlines.

Then again from what I’ve seen he might not be the most self-motivated person in the world, so who knows.

Yes I am aware of those works but he didn't create those shows just voice in them. Owl House was created by his girlfriend , so one wonders if he wouldn't be in that, if he wasn't dating the creator.

It's ashame too. I really loved Gravity Falls. I just remmber after the show ended. There were talks have him doing a adult cartoon show for fox (which never happened) and that was it. It wasn't until Owl House that I heard his voice again. I didn't hear about the Netflix thing through until now.

>when you’re the only one wearing a MAGA hat being told that you’re a bad person because of something that happened on Wednesday

I never thought I’d see the day where the “art imitates life” quote bears true, especially almost towards the end where Eddy simply says “Be happy! Get over it!”

As if that’s a good idea :story:
>being a MAGApede
For what reason?
Welcome Back Kiwis. While the site was down the pilot for Long Gone Gulch dropped

I was halfway skeptical it would make it to January 11; thankfully it avoided the New Mutants curse. The actual cartoon is alright.
I wonder if indie cartoons will have a future in the field of western animation.
I wonder why Tara Strong was in the "Special Thanks." I'd make a wild guess bronies had something to do with it.
Maybe she did some uncredited voice work? There was also special thanks to Diego Molano, creator of Victor and Valentino. I guess it’s special thanks to people they worked with over the years.
