And going back to the whole 'PC should die because I say so' take, and a quote mentioned recently about how Americans tend to act as though they are all temporarily embarrassed millionaires. This is an excellent way to describe Bob, replacing currency with progressive clout. He acts and speaks as though, rather than a shallow, detestable Eichmann wannabe, he's society's great explainer a la Isaac Asimov, who's just had his intellectual crown bent for a moment.

yeah, the quote gives the impression that the One Nahtzee is a swastika-wearing, goose-stepping, seig-heil spouting individual who's so exceptional he quotes Adolf in the Original German 24/7.

Oh man, I did not know about this but it is going to make me so happy to think about how he is going to be embarrassed by this take till the end of gaming itself. Even as a Nintendo baby who will probably always own a system that can play the next Zelda and Metroid titles, you can't wiggle out of the fact that PC owns the soul of the market and will forever. They're super relevant if you're trying to develop a small, simple, but creative indie-style game that breaks the moulds made by genres and corporate creative cultures. Something like The Binding of Isaac, or even Undertale despite being Tumblr flavored Warioware with an RPG tacked on. But like always, that is verboten to Bob and he refuses to be even arbitrarily associated with alt-right nazis who take their ball and go home when they get sick of the censorship that he creams himself over.

God, it makes me wonder what failures Ma and Pa Chipman had to be to raise a pair of man-children like Bob and Chris. What's even more tragic is that those failures will be visited upon Chris's children and I fear how they will turn out. I want to imagine that they were decent, hard-working Bostonians who simply lost their boys to the consoomption of time. But that's probably just being optimistic.

For the sake of Chiris's kids, I hope he keeps them off the Internet until they know what to do and what to avoid. Chris-Chan never had parents who were savvy enough in that regard, but that's not entirely their fault as most people their age had no idea how the early Internet works. I liked when Bob tried to will PC gaming into irrelevancy and it backfired spectacularly.

Holy fuck, he's even DUMBER than I thought. The PC platform is turning 40 years old this year (I'm starting at the original IBM 5150, which was released on August 12th, 1981). There's four decades worth of games that are were made for it and you can easily emulate nearly five decades (I'm starting at the Magnavox Odyssey, which was released in 1972) worth of non-PC video games, numbers which will continue to grow as the years go by. Everyone and their grandma has a PC (whether they are for gaming or not), which allows people to play games on there. PC gaming will never go away, and consoles will always be playing catch up with the PC. Once again, Bob sticks his ignorant ass into a place where it does not belong and proceeds to get kicked.

I suspect there is a great deal of truth in that. I believe that Bob did allude to relationship troubles with his father and my working theory was that Pa Chipman was less than supportive about Bob's career choice. Chris (somehow) managed to get a Masters in Engineering and I assume Sister Chipman may have just as advanced an education. Bob got a Film Studies degree from some rinky-dink state college and spent most of his time talking about films and video games, or recording skits that a group of 13-year-olds could throw together, and with higher production values. Then I wonder if Pa Chipman was aware of Bob's Twitter and was trying to get him to tone down on the sperging. (WARNING: Incoming Power-Level) My father is around the same age as Pa Chipman and had been warning me to watch what I say online, and I confess that I haven't always heeded his advice. Bob's refusal to take his father's advice could have put a strain on their relationship as well.

Their biggest mistake was likely not reigning in Bob enough in his formative years, but we only have Bob as a primary source so there is much that we do not know.
