Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

@Null This might be worth a Happening pin. The complete Gitlab repo of one of the most prominent Hearts of Iron 4 mods has been leaked and the lead devs back to back have been doxxed and left devleopment spotantiously. The rest of the dev team has been thrown in disarray.
These first two quoted posts contain dox information and might need to be put in doxboxes. This thread one contains the mod.
[/SPOILER]

The git repository, as promised
Fully public, all branches present (PW, EN, Toolbox Theory) - find something for yourself. Cloning the repository is encouraged.

Deleted long ago.

The fuhrer has returned to the team in a last-ditch attempt to restore The New Order tm and save his mod from complete collapse.

I've been trawling through the leaked dev communication and organization files for TNO that was posted earlier. The form only has complaints from October from when Panzer was still lead dev to the 26th of January this year. So unfortunately there are no reaction to the recent doxes. In the TNO Review Forum, there is a very common pattern of complaints. (any image without a time stamp has been cut up because of its length or applying to other sections of this post)

Such as team leads expressing that they rarely have an opportunity to do any team leading and that they're referred to as "foot soldiers' because all they do is compile reports and are largely uninvolved or unaware of development ongoings for their own department. The implication seems to be that this is the case for a majority of teams. 3 images
Lack of understanding of team structure and the powers of each role due to such things not being properly outlined and readily available. As well as a lack of communication 6 images

Rampant complaints about crunch culture, inactive devs and high level developers mistreating team members. These are by far the most prominent complaint. 16 images

PinkPanzer's (former lead dev) rampant inactivity before they stepped down and him being the face of the mod despite rarely working on it. 6 images

Aspects of the mod being developed in secret by developers coding in secret. Particularly Reinhard's story causing significant trouble. (he gets a redemption arch, destorys burgundy and germany and kills himself after assuming power in his victory of the German civil war after Hitler dies) 5 images

Discontent with the development path and content of certain nations and areas. 3 images
Misc shit relating to the Discord, its moderation, and complaints about TNO's story for personal reasons.

Need to type this one out because the retard who brought it up doesn't know how to format shit and let it run on so it can't be gotten in a single screenshot.

View attachment 1887775 "I feel the need to express my dissatisfaction with the way that Maarshalker's situation was handled. While I trust the mods' decision to ban Toaster, I do think it should be obvious that the victim of the harassment (Maarsh) should have been consulted before action was taken, at the very least as a heads up. This wasn't done, leading to Maarsh seemingly panicking and the victim in the situation being muted for an hour in all channels and being told to "take a seat, dude." This situation spiraled out of control over the next 24 hours and devolved into Maarsh's suicidal threats and idealizations until he had to be removed from the team.

I won't defend Maarsh's threats, nor defend his place on the team after he made them, but the lack of support offered to him after he was the victim of harassment seems like at best a drastic oversight and at worst a callous disregard for the individual we should be taking action to protect. This becomes doubly true when you consider our channel, #snowflakes_anonymous, which theoritcally should be used for additional support to those going through difficult mental struggles, whose purpose was seemingly ignored in the proceedings (besides being the location of some drama that unfolded) Maarsh had posted for months in- (cuts off the scream because they're a retard and that part is lost) Does this mean we ought to have ignored Maarsh's threats or that the mod team is at fault for his suicidal messages? Absolutely not, but to pretend like nothing more could have been done is far from the truth, and I was hoping that the team says that it provides a safe place for it's members would do so properly.

In short, while I understand the punishments involved all around, I'm displeased with the team's rough handling of a sensitive individual, and hope that some kind of lesson is learned to prevent this type of situation in the future."

The gist of it is that there is a complete lack of organized systems and communication between teams to get anything done in regards to management outside of individual dev chats and limited individual documentation of each nation. Leading to huge amounts of work being thrown out, veoted or spontantiously reworked at any time. The actual coders rarely do work, doubly so for the higher up individuals. Crunch culture and mistreatment is extremely prominent in a video game mod and widely used by the higher ups due to their disorganized structure and demanding deadlines combined with how seriously the higher-ups take it. Also the Discord mods are gay.
Panzer managed to make a good critique of authoritarism, just not in the way he wanted :stress:

The concept of socialism existing before the French revolution is nonsense. The terms for political left and right didn't even exist before then.

There were some early movements like the Diggers, but having a socialist republic in the 16th century is anachronistic.
Anabaptists and other social and religious radicals notably Thomas Müntzer did appear during the German Peasant's War in the wake of the heresiarch Luther (although as a wordsmith of Bible and hymn he had no equal in Germany) who became even more bloodthirsty (from behind a desk and in words only) to rebelling peasants who sought his blessing, than he was towards Jews. During the War there were some short lived peasant or craftsmen ruled polities. These were socially radical in a world of lords, prince bishops and arrogant urban oligarchies, but making it proto-Communist just is not right. The German Bible was their constitution.

wait, is doxing something police will check?
i did not do any dox, i only watched this thread
No, in most places it is legal.

Also, for all new fags coming from the various TNO communities, we are not an autistic illiuminati who sets shit like this up, we catalogue humorous material from the sidelines, regardless of where it comes from and such material is in abundance today. Second lurk moar and FUCK NIGGERS.

I am the dude who wrote the "this is getting too long for a comment/complain" bit, I was a random ass tester conscripted to help "finish" because I shitposted enough on the discord (that is how we were recruited). You have no idea how deep the organisational problems run: The Heydrich thing was even more retarded than you could possibly think, there's a bot on the discord that keep tracks of every commits/merge/shit happening on the repository, so everyone could see the devs doing weird shit with obscure commit messages. Worse, you could read the commit yourself and figure out what was happening ! And it doesn't stop there, team leads were notified that X team members wouldn't be working with them for some times, often with no reasons given just to do Heydrich shit. So of course there was a huge chimpout when people put 2 and 2 together.

Half of the roles seems more honorific than anything else (especially those which shouldn't): there's no differences between a senior contributor (coder) and a contributor except a darker username, they do the same stuff. Developers are people who do whatever the fuck they want and are basically unaccountables.

Communication between the teams was done through google sheets that broke on a semi-regular basis. There were like 15-20 google sheets: testers like me had to put up the bugs/shit to change on like 5 different places otherwise we would get yelled at and the only way to get them fixed/changed was to put them in the meme channel on the discord (which did work really good but got us yelled at because "There are git issues/bug and polish team sheets/you should put it on your report for that").

Test reports were read, but more for entertainment than a desire to improve the mod, I remember pointing out quite a few issues that have gone totally ignored for months, only to be fixed when someone cleaned the git issues.

Concerning crunches: I was a random tester and was not forced to crunch (although some testers were conscripted to write shit). The team's stance on crunch was extremely inconsistent, people being angry at crunching were either told "lol we've done worse before" or "don't worry it's the last time that this is happening" but as soon as crunching was brought up not in the context of the mod but the video game industry in general (ex: cyberpunk) it became the most deviled thing on earth.

Probably the funniest stuff that happened while on the team: the creation of a politic channel ! Some team members were feeling isolated because the predominant thoughts were center of left (more like far left but ymmv) so a politic channel was created to discuss this sort of things and try to make the team come along together a bit more.
It became a reddit-tier shithole instantly like 3/4 of the people active there were some crazy brand of leftist and while some efforts were made, the moderation restricted discussion to boring stuff (we were not allowed to talk about Hunter Biden's laptop for instance, amazing).

I remember the lead mod being the only person in the mod team knowing that fedposting and "the FBI & CIA runs insane entrapment schemes to stick terrorism charges on autistic dudes and lock them up forever with no trials" is a real thing (quite amusing).

There's certainly more that I forgot but that'll certainly make some of you laugh.

The TNO development leadership has totally collapsed, the github repository has been deleted as well.

Every single lead developer in TNO has quit and other senior developers are calling for purges.
Only Jacob can fix this shit, but he won't bother with TNO for sure - he has Godherja to fuck with already.

7 or so years to develop, and just one night to crumble entirely.
Not entirely true, there was only ever one lead developer, panzer, then Pacifica, and then Valrin, who both left. However all the other department leads are still in. The github was deleted long ago since they moved to Gitlab. Definitely a big drama but it's got nothing on the entire dev team sans Panzer making a secret server to make fun of his development decisions
which resulted in the entire dev chats being leaked and half the team being purged. It's a big blow but TNO is like the Black Knight from Monty Python - they'll keep going on, somehow.

Mistook github and gitlab, that's on me. It was actually done on gitlab, as shown in this post

However all the other department leads are still in.
As far as I am told the development structure is a bit retarded with those - those are not like Lead Developers and don't have the permissions of Lead Developers.

which resulted in the entire dev chats being leaked and half the team being purged
They were not exactly "purged", but rather just got their roles stripped and let to work on their parts anyway. Some people (for example - Pacifica) actually managed to get back in.

like the Black Knight from Monty Python - they'll keep going on, somehow.
That'll be interesting to spectate, to be honest.

Some cringe stuff from leaked mod files.
rajneesh.9.t:0 "Rajneesh Proclaims Legal Homosexuality"
rajneesh.9.desc:0 "Gay and lesbian Indians celebrate in the streets today as Rajneesh has finally proclaimed homosexuality to be fully legal and in fact legally equal to heterosexuality in every way. Speaking in one of his talks to his many followers, Rajneesh said this: "Homosexual intercourse is really just another form of spiritual expression, same as any other sex. I am not a homosexual, it is probably something I will never have interest in, but who am I to tell these people their carnal pleasure, their experience of the soul, is wrong? It is just another way for people to discover themselves and each other."\n\nHe continued in this vein before addressing conservative opponents in a lighthearted manner. "There are a lot of people calling me a devil, saying I am promoting evil, that these people are unnatural. I ask them, how can it be unnatural if nature itself made them this way? Humans are animals, exceptionally bright and spiritually connected beasts of nature but beasts of nature all the same. Their cruelties are as natural as their innocence. Really, these fools should be cheering for this freedom! In places where homosexuality is persecuted and its practitioners killed, that is where the most homosexuals will be! They think 'if the powers hate it so much and people do it anyways, there really must be something there', and it always backfires. All these zealots should be thanking me as much as the people celebrating in the streets are!""
