If anybody saw the pic I posted in the pic thread in off topic, you can see that even at the biggest size I could get it, I still can't properly fit into my $600 leather jacket. I've noticed that my pants feel tighter too and I have difficulty putting them on. FML.
It was several weeks ago when I was eating an entire box of donuts and got a craving for Fritos that I realized that things had to change. Working in fine dining restaurants and in a kitchen where they prepare large amounts of food for large group activities certainly doesn't help, nor does the copious amounts of free soft drinks on tap. So I started to limit my intake of soft drinks to only once a day and only a glass of the stuff and drink more water instead. Since yesterday, I have not had one drink of soda at all and I hope I can keep it up. It's like they never took out the cocaine in coca cola. Food will be harder to control though because of the obvious perks. Maybe just concentrate on intake rather than what I eat?
Finally I guess I have to be more active. But I hate gyms for various reasons. I do live right next to a state park though. Maybe I can take up hiking?

I always recommend the Paelo Diet as I've had great result both weight and health wise but it's more of a lifestyle change then just a diet.
Pros: lots if meat, fats and veggies
Cons: no sugar no bread no pasta.
But I lost over 50lbs in two years and I feel awesome and once you lose the sugar jones life gets so much better.

Nice. I've been looking to get a nerdy tank myself for the gym. I'm looking at getting this. It's pricey but worth it IMO.Since Monday of last week I've been going to the gym with my friends four times a week for about two hours each time. We are all tired of being couch potato fatasses, especially my friends with their 9-5 sedentary desk jobs.
Cardio involves 30 minutes of elliptical. The rest of the time involves strength training of some sort: arms, core, or legs. It's MUCH more fun to go to the gym with a group of friends rather than alone. We all share the pain and gain experiences. Also it helps that one of those friends used to be on the track team in high school so he can tell us all how to exercise and stretch correctly.
We are probably the nerdiest group of gym-goers at Planet Fitness; two of those friends are professional Super Smash Brother Melee players. I have since bought this and this workout tank. I'm thinking about buying this one in the future as well. You gotta look good and show off nerd pride when you work out!
I'm slightly overweight
I was thinking of getting into weight lifting to build some upper body didn't think of the benefits of increasing my matabolism. I have tried doing a pushup but right now my upper body is weak. I'm not saying I can't because I know I can if I keep trying. I read somewhere that doing wallpushups are good for building up the muscles initially.Walking is great, but you need more.
Build up some muscle. Does not have to be typical "LIFTIN BRA" stuff. Start with basic bodyweight exercises.
Pushups. Squats. Pullups. If you can't do a pullup, just start by hanging on the bar (or tree branch, whatever is handy) to get your grip used to it.
More muscle = high metabolism.
