And isn't part of the Science Narrative's argument that even IF you get vaccinated, life STILL can't go back to "normal" because there's a CHANCE you could get COVID, pass it to someone and kill 1,000 grandmas, so therefore we should probably be on house arrest until 2025?

• MoCo's weekly total is 1,391 — lowest since early December
Today the Monterey County health department said 138 new coronavirus infections had been detected in the county, bringing the total for the last seven days to 1,391 — the lowest weekly total since 1,260 cases were confirmed during the week ending Dec. 6, 2020. The county's worst week was Jan. 10, when 4,043 new cases were reported.
The improving trends here mirror what's happening in the State of California, where officials said 10,501 new cases were confirmed yesterday — way down from the record statewide total of 53,341 new cases on Jan. 1.
Hospitalization numbers have also brightened significantly. Yesterday there were 13,766 coronavirus-positive patients in the state's hospitals, down from the record of 21,923 on Jan. 5, according to data reported by the California Department of Public Health. In Monterey County, there are 118 coronavirus-positive inpatients at the county's four hospitals, according to the county health department; on Jan. 15 there were 217.
Of this week's 1,391 new cases in Monterey County, 983 were in Salinas and the Salinas Valley, while 228 were in the Monterey Peninsula, including 103 in Seaside, 58 in Marina, 31 in Monterey, 20 in Pacific Grove, five in Big Sur, three each in Carmel Valley and Pebble Beach, two in Carmel area (93923), and one in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Please remember that these are seven-day totals.
To emerge from the Purple Tier to the Red Tier in the governor's economic shutdown scheme, the county has to get its 7-day average of new cases per 100,000 residents below 7.0. As of today, the county's number is 43.5, which means we still have long way to go. But as recently as Jan. 9, our 7-day average of new cases per 100,000 population was 126.
SUPERVISOR OFFERS VACCINE ADVICE BUT OPPOSES CLINIC AT MOUTH-OF-VALLEY CVS
Monterey County Health officer Dr. Ed Moreno did not participate in the county's weekly media briefing Wednesday afternoon, but Fifth District Supervisor Mary Adams did.
Adams, whose district includes the Monterey Peninsula, acknowledged the frustration thousands of Monterey County residents 75 and older have felt after being unable to get a coronavirus vaccination appointment. Many county residents have traveled to Santa Cruz and other counties to get the shot. Adams suggested her constituents make frequent visits to the county’s website, mcvaccinate.com to register for a vaccination appointment.

Yuma, Arizona, according to the New York Times, has experienced the highest coronavirus case rate among agricultural communities in the United States. The fear is that farmworkers with the virus could cause another surge in Monterey County.
Meanwhile, pharmacy giant CVS announced this week it would open vaccination clinics in California, including one at the CVS in the Carmel Crossroads and another in Monterey. So assuming that these claims about stricter testing requirements are accurate, which result do you all think is more likely?
Scenario A:
Standards for counting an infection as an official "case" get tighter.
Asymptomatic infections are no longer counted as "cases."
Official "case" numbers drop.
Infections serious enough to lead to death still get counted as official "cases" and official "deaths."
Official "death" numbers do not drop.
The virus appears to become more lethal: i.e., killing a higher percentage of people it infects.
Scenario B:
Standards for counting an infection as an official "case" get tighter.
Asymptomatic infections are no longer counted as "cases."
Official "case" numbers drop.
Fewer persons die of unrelated causes within however-many days of being an official "case."
Official "death" numbers also drop.
The virus appears to be going away.

No. Without going too TMI, it's an event outside of Rochester, NY. Nevertheless, you're right that a lot of events that are fundraisers or boost local economies in some way have been cancelled due to COVID and the difference is noticeable.
In my part of Kiwiland, flu shots weren't even mentioned apart from the drug store asking if I wanted one when I was there when they first became available. One might think there might be concern of a COVID/flu overlap (for lack of a better way to put it), but it was odd that flu shots were barely mentioned this flu season.
Someone I know recently brought up this very same point in response to something they read or heard about regarding the number of reported abuse cases dropping and the likeliness of more unreported abuse taking place. That's why it's hard to take seriously teachers unions' claims that whatever the negotiate for is "all about the kids" or however they choose to express it.
My speculation is that gyms are a concern because locker room facilities might not always have enough space for the required 6-foot distancing. Others might be concerned about people getting sweaty on equipment that may or may not be cleaned between uses. Unfortunately, those in authority use a one size fits all approach so a gym that has spacious enough facilities has to sit idle because of the smaller gyms that lack the sufficient space.
For better or for worse, trump doesn't mince words and makes it clear what he thinks without much of a filter. Unfortunately, this means it's easier for him to stick his foot in his mouth. Being his own worst enemy probably played a part in his defeat this fall.
What probably happened was that the state undertook collection efforts against the fine. If someone or some entity has a monetary judgement and gets the requisite paperwork, they can levy bank accounts to satisfy that judgement. Most of the time, this is done to collect back taxes or an unpaid debt. I'm surprised to see this done with regards to a COVD-related fine. However, some states have been more aggressive policing and fining violators than others, so it's not that surprising even if it's a bit horrifying that states would be so aggressive in a case such as this.
The problem is that many areas never had a mechanism for this in place before COVID hit so they had no clue what to do or how to do it on short notice. It also doesn't help that many school districts and teachers unions are resistant to change. It's a shame that districts struggling to communicate with parents aren't more willing to learn from and emulate the districts (such as the one you mentioned) that have an effective system in place.
Some doomers I know presently worry about the mutant strains coming here from around the world. As much as I'm not big on conspiracy theories, I've nevertheless noted that for every downward trend in local COVID numbers, the media is quick to come up with something to keep doomers in their constant state of fear and panic -- whether it's mentions of multiple "second waves" or new scary strains being discovered. If/when numbers increase after such announcements, it feeds into the doomers' belief that things are going bad again and restrictions have to return to something more stricter.
