The problem is that a lot of films in that genre, not just the MCU but a lot of summer action blockbusters in general, are very similar tonally and follow almost the same exact story beats. Just swap out characters and setting and you're good to go. It something where when you've seen enough they start to bleed together, but you also appreciate and recognize when something purposefully deviates and breaks away from the conventional mold.

This is where Mauler and co really laughably fail as critics to me and I'll echo @Idiotron's sentiments. Mauler has built himself up as a highbrow critic. He mainly enjoys "objectively good" movies and because of this, he needs to justify every single thing he likes and showcase how amazing it is. Without a healthy pool of movies to reference though he ends up praising things for being innovative and unique, not recognizing them as being entirely derivative. He can't identify when something is a retread, or even intentionally invoking an older trope in some cases.

It's absolutely pathetic to watch, and it really wouldn't even matter if he wasn't all about keeping up his smug, holier than thou, objective facade.
sometimes i think about making a bingo card with Mauler’s most common movie references, because it often seems that he’s truly only seen a small handful of films. i think my list would be Alien, Terminator, Civil War, TLJ, LOTR... help me out y’all!

Just watched EFAP on Filmento MoS video.

Mauler thinks BvS Extended Edition is best DCEU film.
Rags likes WW84 more than the other DCEU films.
Very nitpicky in certain words.
Really upset over Underwater being dissed.

EDIT:
Drinker made a video on the Hobbit
I watched it. He has never touched the books. I'm 100% sure he'd hate the Hobbit book because the things he most heavily criticizes about the movies in this are also in the book. He seriously thinks that the Hobbit should be like the LoTR movies (not the LoTR books, mind you) in tone and storytelling. All he knows is that it was rather short and that it was more like a children's book.

I usually like Drinker but that video was awful. I didn't like The Hobbit movies either, mind you, but the part where he bitched about Smaug's motivation was just dumb.

You think he would know, being a writer himself. Smaug's motivation is that he is greedy, lazy, gluttonous, proud, and had a dangerous temper. A classic dragon from medieval and Norse legend. An embodiment of sin. Why would he want to conquer anything? He has everything he wants, and has grown complacent. It was not until he was robbed that he became violent.

I need to watch this underwater I've been getting into lovecraft recently, big chuckles whenever his stories take a tangent to describe how apeish black people are, lmao no way it'd fly today

Exactly, Smaug isn't meant to be this complex multilayered villain who challenges the heroes perception of themselves or their worldview, he's meant to be an obstacle to Bilbo and the dwarves in the same way Fafnir was an obstacle to Sigmund, or the Hydra to Hercules, or Yamata no Orochi to Susanoo. It's a classic heroes face down the monster to get to their ultimate goal scenario, I know the movies added some stuff when it came to Thorin and Smaug being mirrors of each other with Throin going crazy of the Arken Stone but even then that got the whole "monster in the way of the heroes goal" part right.

Improvised Dark Souls stream, occasionally taking potshots at hbomber for that video from a million years ago

Also I ran into this reddit thread which might be interesting (his subreddit seems very small and low activity tho)

Sorry for double-posting but the Fandom Menace is about to milk the Gina Carano firing for like, the whole year.

That sounds fun , it would be a lesson for mauler about wanting to have a cake and eat it too.
Why would he keep a trans person when like 80% of his crew is anti trans ?
Maybe he knows he can't get a real woman (Jay doesnt have a lot of options either) so he is chasing Jay?
Well, Mauler sucks at moderation in general. But it's probably because Jay is one of the last examples he has of people he covered "taking criticism" and joining his side. Considering that Wolf had a mental breakdown, he's not really a good example so Jay is the only one he has.

Aight, I rediscovered the first edit of the first act of Quinton vs. Mauler by accident and wanted to crosspost. Here praying that Jay doesn't end up becoming Q's next waifu.

The video is unlisted, and has 125 views despite being from Feb. 2018. Did Q puss out on this video and immediately unlist it like he did that video where he sucks off Contrapoints?

Yeah, this was discussed upthread. I think he's "trans questioning" at the moment. Poor old EFAP Wiki doesn't know whether it's coming or going with the pronouns:

He's an odd-looking chap, so if he does go all in with feminisation, it'll be... interesting to see.

Jay's about the only EFAP alumnus I can stand because he doesn't come across as hideously self-important and I have genuinely enjoyed his solo videos. I did lose a bit of respect for him when I found out he was essentially bullied into being part of EFAP. This image just highlights how cult-like the whole circus is:

i will keep an eye out for jay

Is an edit version. Quinton has this stupid habit of sharing preliminar versions of upcoming videos and share them with his fanbase before he actually uploads them.
He did however pussy out with Mauler with the full video. Already that horse has been beaten to death, last time I was telling the story.

Before they found out their politics aligned with hers:

Lol, Ethan van Sciver was one of the people in the before compilation. Look what he's up to right this minute:

Don't get me wrong, I think it's dumb she got fired for the reasons she did, but if Pedro Pascal got fired over his politics, these morons would be throwing a street party.

Problem I had with the Hobbit films was that they spent too long tying it to Lord of the Rings. The Gandalf subplot distracted from the main story. Leaving less time for the dwarves to develop proper characters. Also they needed to trim the dwarves. Keep the ones that had speaking roles and jettison the rest. Also a lot of subplots that went nowhere.
