Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Ah yes, the TVTropes page. It also has pearls like this:

  • Accidental Aesop: Sergey Taboritsky's Burgundian System Ust-Sysolsk and Russia takes quite a few cues from the equally totalitarian Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40,000 with its elements of genocide, purity obsession, Crushing the Populace, inequality, worshipping an effectively dead entity and religious dogmatism used to justify all that. The game therefore accidentally manages to bring about An Aesop that in literally any other setting, the Imperium of Man is a nightmare state and one of the worst humanity can achieve, especially if saner paths are possible.
Nothing in this mod has anything to do with Warhammer 40K but redditors are so obsessed with muh 40K lore they cant help but mention it here. If they had actually read sci-fi they would probably know that the theme of "doing evil stuff as a way to stop even worse stuff from happening" Mostly comes from dune and the eternal champion series.
  • Out of all leaders in the game, Oskar Dirlewanger is the target of the most horrific, bizarre, and outright hilarious deaths, with more than seventy death events dedicated to him. Given that he was a notorious war criminal, serial rapist and an extremely disturbing real-life case of Sociopathic Soldier, this was an intentional move of the developers to give him as much karmic retribution as possible.
This just seems downright obsessive lol. The dude has been dead for decades but the devs have a hate boner against him.

In the gameplay Burgundy tries to cause a nuclear war by instigating tensions between countries, with the state being basically a front for inteligence operations since they don't have enough bombs to cause a nuclear fallout.
Won't other state's inteligence operations notice things? I mean, even the CIA didn't just magically fucked third world countries wihout years of working, Burgundy must have a way weaker aparatus for it.

To be fair I don't know why Dirlewanger is not represented at all in media, he fits the stereotype of evil nazi that burns vilages and kills children.

I think it's because one option in the focus three is called "suffer not the mutant" and the "worship dead god" thing. Still, it's more of an easter egg than being fully based on it, like one TF2 pic in one focus three

Ironic.
Burgundy is basicly IRL israel.
Israel isn't a starving failed state, though. They along with Singapore and Qatar are examples of small, powerful rich countries.

Burgundy doesn't work as an analogy for ZOG conspiracies because the whole point of those is that they control massive wealth.

The one thing i relember on the tvtrops page was describing that people didn't cared of Hall fucking the FBI because it was Hoover's personal empire at that point, so the devs had to point "but Hall is homophobic and will blackmail Hoover". I mean, if the writing is bad enough for people don't caring that fucking the FBI and CIA will weaken america in front of the nazis, why would people care about blackmailing someone based on their sexuality? Also isn't like Hoover himself was above blackmail or using the FBI to whatever he wanted.
If you writing is so bad that you have to use the homophobic card for a stalinist, you must change the writer.
  • Like the DSR, Gus Hall had fans before his early content was added. He is stated by the devs to be the second worst path for the USA, though the specifics remain unknown. Even after it was revealed that he would carry out massive purges of the FBI and the CIA at literally the worst time possible as his very first act, he kept many fans because the thought of wiping J. Edgar Hoover's little empire is too appealing. It was only when he tried to invoke a lavender scare, outing J. Edgar Hoover's sexuality to discredit him and others in the CIA (after signing radical civil rights legislation to equalize all sexualities no less) that he started to lose support and the degree to which he was destroying American democratic institutions began to become clear.

The problem is that they're commies so they won't attack Hall's disastrous economic policies.

Who cares about economy? To see if a country is good you only need to check if it have LGBT rights.
Generally speaking, very poor countries tend not to because they have other legislative priorities (which is why the Siberian Black Army is dumb). That said in the 1960s-1970s sodomy laws were repealed in England and Wales and some US states like Illinois so there should be some events in the more liberal countries.

It isn't even that Hall if bad because homophobic, is that the devs had to point it since they can't write shit.
It would be like they pointing that funny clock men hates queer people to see if people realize he's evil, because ruining the country isn't enough to get people to hate someone.

Besides, the description makes look like the LGBT rights somehow are instantly effective and it reaches "social normality", despite countries like Uruguay still having problems with lgbtphobia. If anything they're look like "hey people, you will solve every problem by making it legal, an homophobic conservative society will start giving flowers to gays the day after someone write a law"
Do in game aproving civil rights end racism?

Uruguay is probably the most accepting country in the Americas along with Canada. Polling for gay marriage by some accounts is about 75% which is higher than the USA. The problem with TNO is that they'd make some ultra-Catholic backward country like El Salvador accept it instantly.

Here burgundy can either go assertive or submissive, but if it does go assertive, it can at most conquer vichy, take britanny, and maybe mess with cornwall, the cherry on top of the cake is that himmler can join in on the burgerkrieg if it does happen and just roll germany depending on the players competence

Here is the doc outlining what will be done
Looks promising but I would suggest avoiding massive conventional wars between Japan and China. This is the 1960s and those would go nuclear very quickly. MacArthur almost nuked China over Korea and he wasn't even an imperialist fascist. I'd suggest a massive insurgency campaign against Japanese occupation of China being a bit more realistic.

Nukes don't result in a game over, the only new feature is that they sap pops.
Also, nukes are only used by AI when 80%+ towards capitulation, and even then, it won't be stupid enough to destroy the planet, but if nukes are used right off the bat, then you start a nuclear war proper.
But it will also depend on government and ruler of the country (yazov will do gamer things) for example

The point is that there will be a giant pay-off war between the three majors.
Cause its fun.
