Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

The No Man's Sky devs just added a massive update where you can capture/train pretty much any monster or NPC and make them your companions. Meanwhile we're on month two of radio silence from CDPR and few if any of the bugs have been fixed.

CP2077 confirmed worse than No Man's Sky.

This is a really weird comparison considering No Man's Sky has been out for nearly 5 years now and doesn't take into account how it took nearly a year before the Atlas Rises update came out and started turning the game around.

Cyberpunk fucking sucks but let's not all start acting like Hello Games didn't take their sweet fucking time to get the game into a decent state.

Sorry bro, no room even for tacit optimism in the grieving thread. Cyberpunk's deeeaaad!

Again its a different of leadership and expectations. NMS lead dev got over his head, let the hype get to him (with Sony playing a big part of it), and then released a wet flop. Since it was a small indie studio after the first feeling of "what the fuck?" from people it was pretty understandable how this happened. After that it was just him and his team working silent to improve the game until its hits all the promises that Star Citizen made.

CP 2077 on the other hand? One of the founder members (and shareholder) of CDPR came and took over the project, got all the lead developers that made Witcher 3 so amazing to quit out of frustration and disgust, rewrote the direction of the game from 3rd person RPG to 1st person Open World FPS and at every step chose style of substance (A 40 min fake E3 demo, pushing a Reeeves as a spokesperson, laying to generate the hype, etc). That to me is what I think CP 2077 will never really improve. At every step of the development choices were made to make the game look good but not actually create decent fundamental systems that enhance the gameplay. And now CDPR is now desperately trying to get the game to just work on console that should have been left behind before all those systems they promised can actually get into the game.

Can people fuck off with the "NMS is good now!" meme? The game is still shit because the core gameplay is shit.

I'm not saying it's good. I call it a "decent" state because of just how fucking awful it was at release. At least 4 years later they have been able to add a few of the features people wanted, but they don't really deserve a gold star or anything.

I'd argue that, game breaking glitches aside, Cyberpunk even with it's bare bones shit was more fun than No Man's Sky boring ass "go to empty planet, got to next empty planet, etc. etc." shit.

this site really doesn't get what optimism is. me saying "no man's sky was shit for the longest time" isn't me saying "Cyberpunk might get good."

mostly because A. Cyberpunk isn't going to have a complete gameplay overhaul to turn it into a real RPG. B. Cyberpunk isn't going to get a massive storyline overhaul to make it more like an RPG. and C. Adding stupid shit like Monorails and fixing the missing walls and junk won't suddenly stop the first two from being shit.

I recently tried it with the latest patch and was bored out of my mind. Exploration for the sake of exploration (especially on procedurally generated worlds) does nothing for me.

Still, that they've continued to update it and add new features for free is commendable rather than just burying their heads in the sand and yelling "WELL SOME PEOPLE LIKE IT!" like CDPR is doing.

That they've only released a handful of hotfixes and patches in more than two months is especially weird considering that they were quick to patch The Witcher 3. They seemed to have something new out every week for that game. Within a month of patching TW3 went from poorly optimized and constantly crashing on my system to running silky smooth.

This 100%. Anyone who watches Sean Murray, other than being a poster boy for the soy beard and face, will immediately pick up that he is a massive introvert, likely very socially awkward. Not really the sort of person you want to do media, but he's the best that small studio has. He's the kind of guy who would rather be coding and improving his game than doing media runs. Got swept up in the hype, kinda sold things he wanted/planned to be in the game as if they were in it from day one, and over time, he and his team more or less have put in the things promised.

CDPR in contrast is big, has a massive established hit from Witcher 3. They went to lie to both investors and the public, fucked off their original team, and continued to make shit decisions. This is less some sheepish, socially awkward nerd being unable to stop himself and more a company actively lying to everyone about the game.

I don't think it's that weird. Witcher 3, even with the bugs, was loved at release.

Cyberpunk is a complete cluster fuck and the handling of it was shit. CDPR is a sinking ship with the lawsuits and the game getting pulled off console digital markets. Most devs there have probably bailed or are in the process of bailing.

And even if they aren't bailing, there probably wasn't a sudden magical management fix. Shits probably even more fucked up now than when it was during the actual production management wise.

I get that, I just think it's odd that they aren't at least pumping out quick hot fixes that correct a few buggy quests as a way to go, "See? We're still working on it." Instead they're doing... almost nothing with it. Even shitty EA games usually get consistent support up until they decide "That's enough. We're moving on now."

almost all of them and then some. part of the problem was that people thought OMG IT'S GONNA BE BIGGER THAN STAR CITIZEN, when one simple look at the team and their history would tell you enough. similar to OMG CYBERPUNK IS THE GAME TO END ALL GAMES I'LL NEVER PLAY SOMETHING ELSE EVARRR!!!!1.

while you could blame them both for overhyping their games, one was a nerdy bong in over it's head, the other was an established studio with big ass marketing budget and funneling the hype flames hard. there's a big difference between one dude saying "you can play together (at some point)" when specifically asked during interviews and making big ass fake gameplay to show at e3 and award shows.

the comparison is a stretch tho, because it was/is much easier to fix NMS due to it's design and type of game than "open world action adventure story" - but the latter was a deliberate choice by CDPR, so every shit they get for not "fixing" it is also on them (if that's even possible, because once a "story" is over one way or another most people have no need to go back it).

could be they finally found some common sense to STFU and get to work. however NMS could do that a lot easier than CP, because even if they turn it into a 11/10 game months/years down the road (unlikely given the cost required) who's gonna care? who's gonna still buy it if they even can?

their whole post-launch was PR debacle, if they ever announce they gonna move on and the game isn't perfect it will generate headlines because it's easy clickbait. way more likely they keep avoiding the topic, release the multiplayer or something else quick as distraction and silently drop it. and even if they are working on it to make it a 11/10, they can't say so before they actually did, because if they ever don't it will bite them in the ass even harder.

TLDR: CDPR was retarded and is now stuck in a place where every move is gonna fuck them one way or another.

Most of the reviews aren't bad, but say that the game was a let-down compared to the trailers. (The E3 trailer was just a cinema sequence, though, with no actual gameplay).

As far as exaggerated marketing hype goes, about this or any other game being "the game to end all games" - it's basically bullshit on so many levels, whether it's this or anything else.

(For example, no one who is interested in competitive gaming, such as racing sims, is going to stop playing that to drive around in a car in game like Cyberpunk; no one who wants to play a challenging game such as a SHMUP like Ikaruga is going to quit playing that just to play a mass market game with a challenge level intended for general audiences - and so on).

Honestly, I kinda feel sorry for Keanu attaching his voice and likeness to this clusterfuck. He's been experimenting with projects outside of movies (I think there's a comic book he's also working on?), but it has to sting to see this kind of mess unfold.
his voice is also half-assed. for a sociopath's construct he sounds monotone AF, not even bored which what a sociopath would be, the 1st time he pops up on V's head you can notice he's trying REALLYHARD to sound angry but it's sounding uninterested. course as said before they didn't try to make him look like david bowie since jhonny's OG appearance is based on that, but of all the actors to make jhonny you pick the most lukewarm of them? shit if they got the guns n' roses dude he would be fucking A for the game appearance and voice wise since he's done a piece as K-DST radio host.

only youtubers and twitchers are dissing cyberpunk. the reviewers don't want to since they helped create the hype, IGN giving the jank 9/10 was akin to them giving 9/10 to evolve. even "critical critics" didn't bother to criticize the game at all.

Not sure if that's just terrible voice direction, or a reflection of Reeves's inability to emote (which is, granted, one of his bigger flaws; he's a decent enough guy but his best roles are where he doesn't have to show much emotion).

Too bad for the reviewers that just as many people are watching the twitch and tuber streamers.

What a fucking disaster.

It will never be fixed.

Well, they might be able to patch the glitches, but the core game issues? Forget it.

There's a really good video that illustrates just how bad CDPR fucked themselves on this. I would rate this one just behind Crowbcat's mostly due to stylistic reasons, but in terms of information, it's just as solid.

My particular favorite bit is the comparison to Red Dead Redemption 2, and how you could pick up things, listen to the storekeeper chatter, even page through a catalogue while in a store. CP2077, by comparison, is hilariously last gen (at best) in terms of that interaction.

Wasn't there supposed to be like major shit done already? Fucking lol. Just dead silence. I wonder if they're actually working on it or just praying nobody cares enough to ask.

I heard them admitting the game is broken would likely be used against them in the investor lawlsuits so they're not saying anything.
