Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

never understood why minimum wage should be a national thing when clearly it makes more sense on a state level based on cost of living. There's plenty of places (like NYC or San Francisco) where $15/hr is garbage and was garbage even a decade ago when they started proposing it. There's also plenty of places (like rural areas in the South/Midwest) where it's an extremely good wage that will buy you a comfortable middle class life if you're even remotely intelligent. In these places, $15/hr is an entry-level salary for a lot of jobs that lead to good careers (and usually requires a college degree) and it's the salary you get as a supervisor or manajerk at some places.

Someone earlier in the thread made a similar point when the topic of the $600/week Federal Unemployment add-on became a reality. With different regions of the country having such disparate costs of living, minimum wage definitely seems more like a state/local issue than a national one -- especially when one coneiders how many states and localities have adopted their own minimum wages in response to what they feel is the inadequate federal one.

When you get the flu vaccine, do you still get the flu and can spread it? Just don't get sick?
Someone else already said it's possible, but the flu vaccine doesn't stop all known versions of the flu. A few years back, someone made fun of me for not getting a flu shot after I spent my Christmas recovering from stomach flu. They got it a few days later despite getting their flu shot religiously for the past several years.

My grandma said the first dose made her incredibly sleepy and I could tell she was a little out of it the rest of the day, but she kept telling me she was fine. I overheard her talking about it with a friend who had a similar reaction and now I'm worried, because it was enough to scare her to get another person to come with her for the second dose just in case
This in itself doesn't sound too unreasonable. When I got my first-ever flu-shot, I felt a lot more tired than usual that night and had some chills in bed. The next day, I was totally fine. That said, the buddy system is probably a good idea just in case there are complications with the shot.

From a city subreddit in my province. This is what a year of fear propaganda will do to you, folks. Don't let this guy become you

>order from amazon if you need something
Aren't these normally the people who publicly post "Fuck Amazon: they overwork/underpay their workers! Support your local small businesses instead to keep them afloat"? People who own, operate, or work for a small business don't deserve to have their livelihoods ruined for factors outside their control. Callout and cancel culture truly has run amok. *sigh*

This disease kills old people, yet, young healthy people claw and fight their way into the vaccination lines to take the vaccine away from real at-risk groups (again, old people).
It doesn't help that the rules about who goes first differ from location to location. In a city in my area, anyone who can show a pay stub from an entity in that city can be part of the top priority group regardless of age, need, etc. Meanwhile, those truly vulnerable who either need the vaccine the most or would benefit the most get their turn in line indefinitely postponed.

A common seintment among people I've spoken to is that most people are tired of these restrictions and more people in my personal life are smelling the coffee in some ways.
Even some of the doomers I know are beginning to question certain aspects of COVID, the lockdowns, and the overall response to COVID. Even if they're still being doomers, the fact they're starting to look at the situation with more of a critical eye and mind is still a good thing.

There is a real crisis of leadership in the world today, in particular the bureaucracies but also elected politicians.
COVID has been mismanaged at all levels of bureaucracy: local, state/province, national, and even global.

Europe struggles and saves in pandemic as Sweden keeps calm and carries on

https://graphics.reuters.com/HEALTH-CORONAVIRUS/FINANCES/oakverxqapr/index.html (https://archive.vn/CpWGU)
Excerpt:
That's because their women are already accustomed to wearing full face coverings.
the argument always felt fishy. If I remember well flu in the majority of time, is diagnosed via symptom. The CCR test only came when coroavirus became an epidemic.
They're like many question that you mediasucker never ask because you trust blindly the scienceTM (never mind that proper deep research may have never happened)
Like do the PCR can really distinguish influenza virus with the current corona virus?
Do it distinguish current year coronavirus with it more common counterpart?
How do we really know if every year influenza is the dominent virus rather than a coronavirus or rhinovirus if the majority of diagnose are just symptomatic?
Coronavirus was found as early as sept 2019 in italy way before the pandemic started in wuhan if it dosen't raise red flag already...
So it's not just bat soup, it was bat spaghetti!?!

Truly if you were correct we would be moving forward removing the mask and opening up society at 100% capacity.
Except we were proven right and it still didn't end.
The virus's supposed "high" lethality was debunked - Oh wait muh lasting side effects!
Long-term damage was largely debunked - Oh wait muh mutations!
Any guesses on what's going to happen when "muh noow varients!" turns out to be another fucking nothing burger?
No I am sick and tired of seeing a once decent thread get taken over by retards the first 1000 or so pages were informal now its just filled with people crying its not fair while they LARP about how they don't wear their mask but they somehow have to shop so they are being shysters.
No, you got assmad when the sources didn't agree with your narrative.

Also, kind of dumb of you to assume that everyone lives in the US yet also assume the rest of the world enforces their mask mandates like Canuckistan does.

I got like 5 shots at once the last time I left the country.
I swear that alone made me sick & tired for the next 48 hours.

Remember, Dr. Fauci is batting 0/4 when it comes to a medical crisis. He fucked up the AIDS epidemic of the 80s (after being hired by Ronald Reagan), the SARS outbreak of 2003, H1N1 in 2010, and of course, COVID-19. Why he wasn't fired after fucking up the AIDS epidemic or the SARS outbreak will forever baffle me.
He's good at sucking someone's dick.

"I" Yeah nobody cares you are a one off lets do that with 6 billion people. Do you people even hear yourselves talk?

We hear you talk and we know that when a beta clicked soyboy human finally gets his head pink misted, I'd wager more than a few of us hope it's you.

You're not going to persuade anyone, why cant you accept that? Fuck off back to reddit, go to your mommy's looking for some bitty, or go coom to troon porn.

Go do something but for once, accept that after a lifetime of participation trophies and being told "you is kind, you is impawtant and yous is loved" nobody gives a flying fuck about you, or your opinions and more than a few folk would love to smash your teeth through your mouth.

sweden has been pretty damn chill when it comes to the mask mandate and restrictions but i have a feeling that will soon come to an end now that it has been talks about forcing people to wear mask at all times when using public transports and again, talk about social distance. i dont think that will work unless they threaten to fine you.
If that happens in Sweden, it's going to probably go like in Finland. We don't have any government mask mandates, but everyone is using them. That is due to innate Finnish culture of not wanting to stand out (Sweden is also like this to slightly lesser extent). I'm not sure when the change happened of no one wearing masks and suddenly everyone wearing them, but I think where I live it was in Autumn. Most of the people only do it indoors and we don't have mask Karens (the culture distains standing out that way too).

A female coworkers mom is in the hospital, dying of cancer. It’s not looking good, and my coworker is very worried. Unfortunately, she killed any sympathy I had when she bitches about the masks.
I see this a lot, people who try to control an uncontrollable situation but pinning the blame on something easy. If only everybody had been wearing masks and if *I* personally wore my mask 24/7, then her mom might still be alive. Keep your shit together people.

Shit like this is why I rarely feel any sympathy for people anymore. People want your sympathy but if the roles were reversed, they would most likely either show no sympathy or find your misery entertaining.

Because success in the Administrative Complex isn't about "Solving" problems..it is about making them manageable so that The Pharmaceutical wing of the Complex can rake in the money, Think of it in the same measure of Iraq, Afghanistan and The Bozian occupations.

Honestly, the best thing anyone can do right now is look after their general health.
Overweight? Fix that shit right now. Cut calories, exercise. Don't listen to anyone saying you're "losing too much" or "losing too fast" as long as your BMI is above normal. Don't @ me over BMI being unreliable, it's good enough.
Take a multivitamin, maybe take a lil extra vitamin D, especially if you are indoors a lot.
Personally I hope that karma is a thing and that it bites the hell out of some of the folks in charge of this shitshow.

absolutly digusting. I didn't get the flu this year neither but isn't worthy enough to live like in a prison

It's not okay to kill grandma, but letting grandpa die alone is just fine to save yourself from the big bad coof:

Don't blame covid, bugman, it's yourself you should be hating.

I do see that quite a lot...people blaming covid in situation where its CLEARLY their own faults. I know people loath personal responsibility but, holy shit...the lack of self awareness is fucking frightening, especially since you KNOW they arent being sarcastic.

There are also ideas that with people fleeing the cities and staying inside, people are throwing away less food waste, and so animals have less to eat in the cities. I also wouldn't be surprised if it was the case that animals don't recognize people or care less with their masks on.

Its almost like covering half your face affects the social functionality of one's face. Animals are just far more honest about it but I assure you its affecting humans too, but hey, that would require suggesting that these masks arent just unnecessary but are causing more problem than Covid itself. Animals, especially those evolved around us, recognize human faces and seeing this ugly ass white thing on it make us look unfamiliar and therefore, threatening.

I can give the "small business" perspective to this thread at least. We are surviving but the government aint hiding that they are playing favorites in terms of who is essential and who is forced to close down because of these insane orwellian rules.
Also, people can throw the anti capitalist talk how much they want, they will be the first one sucking the tits out of mega corporations at the first sign of trouble. ITs familiar and comfortable. I told you people, they always choose comfort and convenience over integrity and dignity.
Oh and they dont honestly give a FUCK about overworked workers, all they truly care is their package being delievered on time. So know that when they throw that card, its almost never legit.
COVID has been mismanaged at all levels of bureaucracy: local, state/province, national, and even global.

The bureaucracy wont matter when its time to start pointing fingers and getting sacrificial lambs to throw under the bus for the sake of satisfying the pissed off public.

And by Throw under the bus you mean "Fire with a very cushy severance package and get hired to an NGO to collect a 6 figure yearly salary for tweeting generic PR tweets".

Just look at Cuomo. He killed off a bunch of people and hid it to hurt Trump, now his own allies are using the things he did to hurt the enemy of both of them against him so that they can wrest control. I would say it's tragic, but fuck Cuomo and his roided out fake news brother.

i'm swedish and i haven't worn a mask a single time in my life, except for when i entered our neighboring country (denmark). it was quite bizarre how midway through the bridge there was a voice that said masks must now be worn and everyone put them on. it is entirely performative as nobody was wearing them on the swedish side of the bridge.

the only thing that is stopping people from ripping that shit off is the fear of retribution.

Every time when dad come home with a mask, the dog jump on him and try to rip the mask away probably with the intention to destroy it. He probably watch to many Q-anon post XD
