I bet some people would still bitch about the whole "only 12.3% of billionaires are women" thing, but you have to remember that, for the majority of the history of civilization, women were shoved in the background and forced to stay at home while the menfolk got to do the cool stuff. There have been tons of badass ladies throughout history, of course, but they were the exception and not the norm. It's been relatively recent that women have been able to start/lead businesses and make lots of money for themselves. Just give it a few more years and that 12.3% will increase.

Also, this reminds me of this post, which many Tumblrinas were outraged by:

It had to be pointed out to them that Tim Cook works at fucking Apple, one of the largest and most successful companies in the entire world, while Safra Catz works at Oracle, which many people have never even heard of. It's not like some evil cishet white males are paying Catz $327 million less because she's a woman.

Oracle's a pretty big deal in enterprise, and it's no small thing that they have a female CEO. Also Mark Hurd is CEO, with divisions divided between Catz and Hurd. Oracles revenues have been pretty flat for the past five years or so (35.62B to 38.28B), and actual income has increased by around 4B from 2011 to 2014. Apple by comparison in the same period (2011 to 2014) gone from revenues of 108.6B to 182.35B and seen income rise by 25.86B.

Do these critics ever include people vaguely qualified or actually interested in the fields they criticise? It's also bizarre to question the gender basis of this. Isn't it the divide between rich and poor a little more significant? Nope, actual discussion of the real income disparity issue is not part of the Tumblr narrative. I feel somewhat more empathic towards sons and daughters born in to poor houses, few options for education, and having to work multiple low-paying jobs to get by. I know people in that situation and have a little more time for them than I would a person who's so underpaid they would, in a month, earn more than most people earn in a lifetime. I don't see how anyone can cry foul that one millionaire is being less than the other and even more so when the comparisons are so laughable.

Of course, the money will be worth about what the Zimbabwe dollar was worth before they gave up and stopped using them.

And in just a couple months working the shittiest blue collar job you can think of, your average US worker earns more than most of the world will own in a years worth of their wages.... is arguing about the discrepancy between millionaires really going to help improve the life of women so impoverished they have literally no say in where they'll live, when they'll eat and what kind of family they'll raise?

It's just another case of SJWs slacktivism, trying to get all the asspats, good jobs and Facebook likes by attacking a very trivial discrepancy where the parties involved (i.e. Apple) will respond because they care about their public image. Whereas those content to let women in third-world countries wallow in hopeless societal dead-ends enforced by LEGAL discrimination in some cases just don't care what they think and don't have a handy email address where our SJWs can send them notes reminding them of how problematic their behavior is.

SJW "victories" are "feel good" ones that improve nobody's lot in life.

I understand the frustration, I understand the rage and indignation, but, at the end of the day, pretending any of it helps is a fantasy.

You don't even have to look overseas and in fact we shouldn't, because it complicates things. Standards of living vary, as do cultural norms, and the problem is evident in our own western countries. It also makes the problem a little more realistic when it's not some kid eaten by flies that we care about once a year – it's the kid who lives 20 miles down the road who's going to have a shit life because his parents can't afford college or medical bills.

I'm not suggesting we should ignore the problems of the world. I'm saying that equating this to suffering in god-awful third world countries makes it easier to dismiss income inequality as something that can't be fixed, but it can be addressed.

I'm a huge fan of barbecue and I've often marveled how pretty much every corner of the planet independently developed their own styles that are yet still similar enough to be considered barbecue. I personally like to get southern chinese style barbecue here in chinatown and then cover this shit in sweet baby rays and habanero fucking sauce.

Like how fucking ignorant can you get BBQ might be the closest thing we have to being the official food of planet earth. My mouth just started watering typing BBQ I'm not even kidding.

How do they even know what said white person is doing in travelling to another country? It's just nothing more then some attempt at trying to get some moral high-ground, complete with a smug image. They only think a white person goes to an Asian country for sex or to Africa just to take pictures of some local from a tribe.
