Honestly, I've met a lot of people who like Dangan and they have been more annoying than a 10 year old with their sonic OC. Who knew that flat tropey characters would attract flat dumbasses who's whole personality is a trope. I'll give credit where credit is due that it has the possibility to be fun but I just find it to be graphically unappealing and in the end boring. A lot of the fandom I've sadly come across are so vile about their characters and head canons that when you try to get any answers about the actual game, it sounds like a dating sim rather than the murder mystery.

It's probably partially a power fantasy thing.

Mikan is very shy, flustered, clumsy, and basically everything a socially awkward teenager would relate to. But then, oh no she's gotten a despair disease! She can now take out her bullies and is a crazy killer. I can imagine frustrated teens gelling with that very well.

Like NoFeline mentioned, I'd recommend adding a mention of the lovely David Caleb Balaski and the fact he made a thorough attempt to saw his arm off like Nagito.

Here's another ridiculous contribution to the trans Chihiro drama as well. They're eating their own kind at this point since the person being cancelled has self diagnosed with disassociative identity disorder (or whatever that system disorder is) and makes every character gay. Interesting.

I remember playing the fan translated version of the original game on my fucked up CFW psp many many years ago, before the official localizations for 1 and 2 on the Vita hit the west.

I wanted to check out some of the free time dialogue that I missed in my first playthrough, so I googled for shit. Ended up finding out that the game had a pretty notable presence on those image let's play sub forums on SA.

I get the impression that the worst of this faggot fandom, much like with everything else, originated in goon territory.

Oh god, I remember lurking /drg/ for years until the V3 localization dropped. Those specific threads always seemed pretty autistic (but then again that applies to 99% of /vg/ threads in general) but last time I heard that a (literal) tranny in one of their Discord servers offed themselves and now the threads themselves are full of Fangan discussion due to lack of official content.

Although it might not belong in the OP, I think that knowing the fandom's group amensia/willful misinterpretation of V3's ending is important, it really highlights how they act.

For those who are unaware, V3 (the last game unless the devs start to run low on money) ends with a massive 4th wall break , where it pretty explicitly calls out how people who form their identies around fictional properties and obsess over fictional characters are wasting their lives. It then goes on to heavily criticizes people who demand more DR sequels, regardless of how it would negatively impact their quality , and how they either ignore or fail to see how messed up that games about children murdering each other actually are, and what their thirst for more says about them.

For obvious reasons, if you see them discussing it at all, it's usually limited to bitching about how it ruined the franchise's plot (that was always an overly edgy, convoluted mess) or bizarre attempts to change it's meaning in a way that isn't condemning them.
