I think part of the issue is, it doesn't make things tangible in a way kids understand. Now your understanding of it (pedos will snatch me from Club Penguin) is funny and overblown but you understood it and it made sense. I've friends who have explained grooming and stuff to their kids, from the take of "it's where someone offers you money to spend in Minecraft/Roblox for sending them dirty photos and stuff". It might be hyperbole but it makes sense to them.
