It's increasingly reminding me of the O.J. trial, not so much in that the judge is bad (he appears to be trying to keep things on the rails), but that what is actually going on in court and what the media is saying are at such complete variance that the public is getting a completely distorted view of what the jury is seeing.

People were shocked by the acquittal in the O.J. case but nobody who actually watched it should have been.
This is something I have actually been talking to somebody about these past few days. I have mostly been watching the trial on a stream that offers absolutely 0 commentary, but when I switched over to the ABC News stream on YouTube it was almost surreal what they were doing. Almost every 20 minutes or so, sometimes less, they would break into the court proceedings and basically give you a debriefing about what you just saw. Most of the time in the guise of "analyzing" what just occurred they would attempt to essentially emotionally coach you into thinking what just was discussed or what just unfolded didn't even happen, mostly that the defense was a bunch of rambling lunatics with zero argument and how the prosecution has an open and shut case. I don't like to use the term gaslighting but its basically text book what it was.
Its safe to say people who are only watching the case through the lenses of MSNBC, CNN, ABC ect, are watching a 100% different reality than if they were to just sit down and watch the court proceedings.

"Ignore what you actually just saw, instead listen to my utter bullshit."

What I love about Aaron McGruder and his comedic vision is that despite his own very strong views, he is entirely capable of understanding and expressing the views of the opposition without just making it a complete strawman. Uncle Ruckus is a great character because he actually expresses opinions McGruder himself obviously doesn't agree with, but he isn't just some moron. He is actually allowed to make some points.

Ironically, despite being virulently racist against his own race, something very similar to how white SJWs behave, it's DuBois who is the worst race traitor in the show. A dude so terrified of being ass-raped in jail (despite sending black people to jail all the time himself) that he never, ever breaks even the smallest law. He's afraid of speeding.

I love McGruder's razor-sharp grasp on the hypocrisy and stupidity of American race politics.
The episodes where Tom is advised to act more like an ignorant nigger and everything going wrong for him because of it are some of my favorites. A Pimp Named Slickback advising him on how to browbeat his wife being the absolute best.

We talking Tom?

I think this is worth bringing up.
People say we need more Carltons, but having another Grandad wouldn't hurt too much.

At least he had his run before everything went to Hell.

Beginning sucked. Ended with a bang.
Prosecution got a police lieutenant to admit that restraining someone that was no longer a threat when they require medical aid is not protocol.
The defense could only argue "It's complicated."
Very good day for the prosecution.

The defense doesn't need to argue anything since your 'bang' has nothing to do with the Floyd case.

Restraining a suspect that is exhibiting Excited Delirium is straight out of the MPD training exactly because suspects in such a state are a threat. This MPD training has been posted multiple in this thread alone.

You obviously aren't bothering to put in the minimal effort to spend the at most five minutes it would take to read the relevant evidence already known.

People are living in a fantasy world if they think a jury is going to send a police officer to any length of prison for following their training.

The problem is the witness, who is a police lieutenant, said it goes against his training. If Chauvin acted against his training that's a major point against him. As pointed out, he might be full of shit but an uneducated jury doesn't know that. That's a pretty strong point against Chauvin in a vacuum and really muddies the waters. Can't just pretend the prosecution didn't do well for once.
Don't underestimate the retardation of the jury btw. A murder charge will likely go be appealed but a manslaughter charge is still in the air.

If you're a regular of the show, if you consider his upbringing, you can understand the position he's in. It's obviously a The Color Purple spoof, but his "adoptive" family character traits bring it to life.

I don't take Uncle Ruckus serious. Many people exist that hate their own race. When you take into account McGruder's complex political commentary and current event, you can't help but laugh, love, even AGREE with Uncle Ruckus.

As an aside, we need a Boondocks thread ASAP.

Perception of reality is as important as reality itself, friend. What the media are doing right now is coaching their viewers into accepting the upcoming, and inevitable, violent rioting. All in order for the poor consumers to see the angry, frothing mob in a more positive light.

The defense still gets to cross examine the witness, as far as I know. The only real advantage the prosecution have here is the "drop the mic" effect. They're going to recess on this until Monday with these statements being the most recent thing the jury would have heard. On the other hand, this gives the defense to formulate a plan of action in response to that. They simply have to make his testimony appear to be uninformed, and as others have said contradicting him with with MPD training material that states that Chauvin's actions were not only justifiable, but taught to every other officer as standard practice as a response to the situation. I will concede to your point that in order to make the jury believe the defense more, they have to really make the Lieutenant look foolish and trump the prosecution's advantage in this situation with something that has more "shock" value.

Its basically a win win situation, if Chauvin gets an Acquittal, the people who have been following along with their narrative will feel cheated and chimp the fuck out, BUT if he goes to jail, and miraculously gets the highest charges they can give him then its still a win because they will be further emboldened that they were right all along ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY!!

How the story is being spun seems to indicate that the press believes the trial will not go according to the whims of "social justice".

The defense doesn't need to make the prosecution's witness look foolish. He gave no evidence relevant to the Floyd case.

Today's testimony was like a police officer being on trial for shooting a suspect and the prosecution having someone from the police testify that it is against police policy to shoot a suspect that is not a threat.

Problem for the prosecution is the defense will put up a large image for the jury to see with the suspect with a gun in his hand pointed at the officer.

LIkewise for the Chauvin trial we have the suspect on camera exhibiting direct signs of Excited Delirium and the police training material are explicit that such suspects are a threat and need to be restrained until the EMT arrives and is able to administer something to enable them to be safely transported.

There is no gray area. And it something even the dumbest of the jurors can comprehend.

With how much of a shitshow the prosecution's case has been so far, there is a desperate desire for something to seize upon. Today's testimony sure as hell wasn't it.

How the fuck is police supposed to deal with similar suspects if the mere inaction towards a dangerous person is enough to not only destroy their careers but also land them a sentence?
Welcome to the world where cops don't go into ghetto areas and/or refuse to arrive to scenes that have black suspects.

Or alternatively, where the only people willing to be police are those for whom the reward of being a cop outweighs the risks. Which is to say, retards, sociopaths, and psychopaths. Perhaps we'll be lucky and it'll be a wombo-combo of both.

I do not believe Chauvin is guilty of any crime. Could he have handled the situation better? Sure. That being said...I can't really tell if he's going to be convicted or not. I'm placing my money on a guilty verdict, would anyone care to wager against me?

What do you even charge him with? Dude was resisting arrest, acting like a maniac, and high as fuck. He committed suicide as far as I'm concerned. Also, LOL @ the riots, any civilized state would've cracked down on that shit the moment it started. Defunding the police, too. What a disgrace. What a country full of morons we are. Sad.

Of course just because I don't think he did anything illegal doesn't mean I think he's going to be found not guilty.

If anyone thinks a jury of mostly women and non-white jurors will seriously not vote guilty is nuts, especially with them *knowing* that if they deliver any other verdict there is a price on their head. If even one of them holds out and causes a mistrial the juror would be instantly outed by the other ones so they could save themselves.
