And as far as Suicide Squad goes, yeah Starro doesn't work. In fantasy land where I got this project instead of Gunn, I'd have taken inspiration from something like John Wick or Ant-Man if I needed to be closer to capeshit. A heist movie would work for SS, maybe they need to get something for the government that the US can't be seen getting. Or just a ton of action as they head out to assassinate some sort of warlord. You know, something you can still have fun with but not something that instantly shatters suspension of disbelief.

Shockingly that last one has one villain that could've worked had Gunn kept them grounded. And they already used him in a previous SS film. Vandal Savage. He would've worked much better as the main antagonist of the film since he has a similar grasp as Ra's without the backing up of the League of Assassins. He could've been the dictator villain with diplomatic immunity the Squad would've face against, and still fit with the concept.

I feel Gunn really wanted to use Starro that he forgot Starro is a JL-level villain. Not a SS level threat

Holy shit I am 3 minutes in to a 10 minute review and Bob has done nothing but post videos of himself and his brother reacting to Godzilla movies, even while speeding up his voice. And of course he immediately goes in to "we need to save theaters" after all that fucking filler.

I swear Bob has to coach himself to have more of a BASTAHN inflection on certain words. The way he only really replaces -er sounds with -ha sounds at the ends of sentences or thoughts seems super self conscious to me.

Bob also seems to actually care about the human characters in this, and even calls it a "good movie version" of a Transformers plot structure. Its the same movie, Bob. You can admit the vast majority of Godzilla movies have horrible human plots. You don't need to pretend the last one was a deep environmental allegory like you do in your next paragraph. Stop being impressed by stupid surface level references and confusing it for deep commentary.

Bob's ending takeaway is 7/10, the last one is better because apparently Bob enjoys dark fights in the rain and endless boring human filler plots.
I like how Bob acts like King of the Monsters is some deep arthouse movie that is insightful and the hallmark of these monster movies despite the fact it was panned by critics and seen as pretentious by most people especially with the annoying human characters. Also I still lol at him saying the human plot is good despite the fact most of the human characters aren't the most interesting with some (one happening to be an annoying nerd stereotype) being terrible.

This comment reminds me of how Darkseid was never meant to be a Justice League villain because Jack Kirby intended to make the Fourth World a saga with a definitive ending. Orion was supposed to defeat him, but DC cancelled the Fourth World line before that could happen. Even then, Darkseid's appearances were sparse with "Crisis Between Earths" and "The Great Darkness Saga" (Paul Levitz wrote an awesome Darkseid) being his two biggest Pre-Crisis showings. I believe that Darkseid's use in the DC Super Powers toy line and animated series changed that and the ruler of Apokolips became more involved in the affairs of the DC universe to the point where he suffered villain decay.

Bob mocking a Snyder fan still bugs me because I don't blame normies for not knowing who the New Gods are or that Darkseid is one of them. Barely anyone aside from comic book fans know who the New Gods of New Genesis are maybe aside from Mister Miracle, Barda, and Orion. And that would be because they appeared in the DCAU.

Bob seems to be equating the dog with a minor child. Which is stupid as hell and hypocritical as fuck, but that's just par for the course.
That dog has more worth in his eyes than tens of millions of his fellow citizens.

I mean, sure, he's said plenty of horrific things about Republican voters and the entire Trump family (God knows what worse things he thought in his head, especially about Red voting women). But joking about Biden's dog and Biden himself? That's just plain uncouth, you worthless piles of unhuman filth!

He wanted Starro because Starro is weird. That's all.
so Bob's sister married a Korean? Too bad it wasn't a rooftop Krean with some sense instead of a mindless D-voter.
That would be interesting if that were the case but he could be talking about an aunt or cousin-in-law or something. Anyway, let's just say I've got one up on him in this regard, so my opinion ought to matter more according to his logic. But here I am forgetting I'm not even a human being again, curse my voting habits.

Is it me, or does it look like Bob is trying to hide his double chin with his beard? He's not fooling anyone except himself.
He's been doing that for some time. He's also using sunglasses to try and cover how terrible his eyes look. But his reviee getup just makes him look like a bad drug dealer from GTA: Vice City at best and a windowless van enthusiast at worst.

I don't think Kirby ever meant the New Gods to be entirely separate from the larger DC Universe either. Darkseid and other New Gods were introduced in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen (written by Kirby at the time). Kirby always had a vague notion that he would end it with Darkseid dying in a final battle with Orion, but nothing was ever really set in stone on how to develop to that point, or how it would go down. Eventually other authors wrote an ending where this happened in Adventure Comics 460, an anthology comic. This being comics, he was revived a couple of years later for a JLA story in 1980. I think the overall transfer of Darkseid as a Superman/ Justice League villain has to do more with the New Gods comics never really catching on. Other writers and artists occasionally wanted to use the characters, so they would put them in anthologies or a story arc.

The DC Super Powers toys tied in to the Superfriends 84 revival, wherein Darkseid really really wanted to fuck Wonder Woman. Kirby himself actually did the art and some of the plotting for the Super Powers tie in mini series comics, which feature the League fighting Darkseid.

It's because he looks even uglier without the beard. Also why does Bob insist on making no effort to look happy next to Chris? Yes Chris is usually doing soy face but at least he looks more like a human being.

Trying to replace actually having a chin or neck with a goatee or a beard is a very popular tactic.

On Bob's water balloon shaped face, it doesn't quite work out.

Bob does look happy but he comes across like a dead-eyed autistic fish or he is trying to maintain the more "professional" persona he has next to Chris if the podcast art gives any indication

To me, it speaks to a kind of insecurity. Like these people are embarrassed by the fact that they like schlock, and so they have to try to make up insane justifications for watching it.

No, guys, superhero movies are not the modern equivalent to Shakespearean tragedy or Greek mythology, and you don't have to pretend like they are in order to enjoy them.
C. S. Lewis actually talked about this mentality in the 50's.

"Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

But knowing Bob, he probably only saw the Chronicles of Narnia movies and knows nothing about the author.

The funny thing with Bob is that he would just use this quote to justify why he loves this kiddie stuff.

The issue with Bob is that he elevates this childish stuff to be more important than it is and is overly attached to this stuff at an unhealthy level.

I don't blame the guy for thinking Bob was in a hospital gown - Bob literally looks like he just had a stroke in that picture.

Like Bob would watch much less appreciate the Narnia movies or the books themselves. I mean, Lewis was one of those religious obsoletes, plus none of his stories had giant monsters or robots punching buildings over while the characters threw smart-alecky quips at each other. Clearly an inferior form of entertainment!

The warlord line could go well if he was some sort of semi-super, mutant or enhanced human like Ajax/Francis in Deadpool.

Especially if they add in banter and shit-talking instead of impending DOOOM end of the world!
