One of the problems with this whole line of questioning about use of force is that I don't think anyone is alleging that Chauvin felt personally threatened by Floyd or needed to talk Floyd off the ledge or whatever shit.

Floyd was in a tard rage when Chauvin got there, and he de-escalated the situation by putting Floyd on the ground and keeping him from flailing around.

(Edited to add a stray observation: When they scraped Floyd off the pavement, there was a big pool of sweat under his head and a big pool of sweat under his body, but nothing under his neck. I'm wondering if this means his neck wasn't even touching the ground.)

This was a while ago, but the prosecution saying, "Wouldn't a way to deescalate the situation be to stop doing the shocking thing that is drawing a crowd?" is dumb.

They just want someone to be have been shocked, I think.

Also iirc Floyd asked to lay down because he couldn't breef in the car sitting down. A cops not just gonna let you lay down without being restrained even with cuffs on. Seen enough footage of people ditching court with cuffs still on them

The complete lack of scrapes or bruises would tell you it wasn't in contact with the ground.

Would the encounter have been different if Floyd had just told them he popped some pills and had trouble breathing? He could clearly speak while being held down.
He was about to drive away. I don't think a confession to intend to drive under the influence of narcotics would elicit sympathy, but maybe the cops would have confirmation of his mental state being compromised.
