Remember that Alexa stats are based on the Alexa toolbar phoning home with site visit stats. It's not a surprise that most KFers know better than to install spyware in their browser (does Brave even support Alexa?), and that Goons don't seem to care because privacy and data security are for Fascists don'tcha'know. What is disturbing that some people are browsing KF with the Alexa toolbar, and I think Null would be within his rights to punt these people's accounts directly into the sun.

Is that really the only way it measures traffic? I was almost positive it had forum spiders/bots that crawled websites like most other agregate engines.

I think SA is floated to some degree with older aggregators because they still use web 1.0 keywords on the bottom of pages and embedded into the HTML, but I'm not sure. I am confident know one knows what spaghetti code actually holds the SA forums together and at this point any site administrator is merely a tech-priest ministering to and maintaining technology who's secrets have long since been forgotten to time.

SA has been riding on it's immense momentum for the past decade. I doubt aggregators are relevant to it as much as it's reputation as the original funnyman forum that launched a million careers. However, they've done pretty much everything they can to ensure that there is no real future for SA besides stagnation and purity spiraling.

From my understanding they they do Neilsen shit, where they figure out the demographics of people with Alexa bars installed/sites with Alexa extensions installed and compare that to aggregate traffic and then use that to make a guess.

this is why the place is so gay and passive agressive now. you cant just call someone an ass-hole to their face without ppl taking it way too seriously and putting you onto a list of mortal internet enemies. instead now you get people being catty on off sites and forming gay little cliques.

i fully apreciate the irony of complaining about this on an off site but its not as if i can laugh about it with ppl over there any more.

On SA the big issue that I saw frequently was using offsite discords and shit to brigade people. You’d disagree with some rando in a thread and suddenly there were 15 people who’d never been in that thread before screeching autism at you. It wasn’t passive observation.

As a couple other posters mentioned, PPJ was a longtime BMW member, as Leonard was kind enough to link my post here dives into a lot of the details. PPJ being a member of BMW was a bridge too far for many typical QCS posters, and frankly I don't really blame other mods for trying to cover for him since it should have been a non-issue anyway.

With regards to brigading, I don't remember any point where BMW brigaded a thread on SA, despite accusations to the contrary. Certain communities on SA became so sensitive to *any* kind of criticism or pushback no matter how mild that if n+1 posters disagreed with the group consensus at any point in a thread, even pages apart, this was evidence of a nazi plot or brigade.

There were a few very good threads on DND where Biden supporters were called nazis by Sanders supporters, because the Biden supporters were "brigading" US politics threads by virtue of supporting the other mainstream party candidate who wasn't President Trump. It was SA where I really witnessed the concept of the Overton Window in practice for the first time, and it's hard to appreciate just how small it became.
