I'm getting conflicting information. Did Stallman get kicked our or not? I heard the caved to the twitter trannies and kicked him out (because we're just really dedicated to falling off the world stage).
 
All this dogpiling on Stallman makes me think is, "wow, autism shot up the progressive stack fast." (Must be that retard strength.)

I'm sure he is super awkward and clumsy with women 110% of the time, but more due to a complete inability to understand socialization and cues indicating romantic attraction, not out of genuine rapey-ness. I don't think he actually knows how to initiate sex unless it's a subroutine. I wouldn't want him around my girl, but I have nothing but doubt that he would be able to get much further than make clean; make sex with a woman who wasn't a die-hard GNU groupie.

He absolutely has some bizarre opinions regarding consent, but I would guess since he's practically lived on-campus his whole adult life, that it comes from hanging out with too many airhead philosophy dept. postdocs more than oogling at libre loli. I wouldn't want him around my child, but mostly because I wouldn't want my kid to pick up "eating toe lint" as a hobby.

For something like the FSF to have any chance of relevance, I think it needs both a ridiculous ideologue to evangelize, and a charismatic figurehead to get checks signed. Why they don't just make Stallman the High Techno Priest for conferences and talks, and get someone shiny to interface with the business world, is beyond me. Either that board truly loves and values RMS, which they may, or he has some dirt. Or lint.

Or perhaps they're impossibly based, and hiring him back as a troll powermove? :optimistic:

Having met Stallman, I understand why any normal person would find some of his views objectionable. But it really is the height of hypocrisy for a band of active and enthusiastic degenerate troons to start judging the man for his views on consent, given trannies seem to be obsessed with oversexualising children and most are familiar with people taking their autistic views out of context.

I wish we were at a point where Stallman's views represented the limits of acceptable discourse, sadly we are not.

RedHat ceased funding to the FSF. Daily reminder that Red Hat is a terrible company that basically wants to turn the Kernel and userland software into a shitty monolithic windows knockoff where their company sits at all the buttons. I'm also pretty sure that the FSF will wimp out and kick Stallmann off again. Quite funnily as a side node, this topic seems to get censored off /r/linux.

I'm sure they prefer to think of it as userland transitioning to its true form.

Years and years ago, I used to look up to Red Hat as an example of what open source could do. In the years since, I've come to despise it and the fucking GNOME foundation faggotry that infests my desktop to this day.

My understanding was they were perfectly free to sell support contracts for anything, if that's what you're referring to. What they did later thru Pottering et al sure as hell fucks things up though.

RMS is a convincing speaker who appeals to idealistic (young) minds about morality and software freedom. For essentially being an early buy in on open source and left-wing altruistic software movements and energy, as well as being a stubborn autist, he's been rewarded with the FSF which has become a long time institution in various hacker communities for better or for worse.

There are a few sides at play here.

The FSF is ineffective as an org at promoting the use and development of free software. Its a failed org wrt its mission statement and essentially exists off fumes of early projects. It is and always has been the RMS show. You work with the FSF because you like RMS and his ideas about FS.

RMS likes this. So when people involved with the FSF start falling for identity politics and other left leaning wedge issues, and start making demands outside of what RMS thinks or would involve him being the center of attention, he's not going to play along. Additionally, RMS is so about himself that he's unwilling to step aside as a 'white' 'privileged' 'male'. Sometimes you will find old guard communist in academics. They are sidelined but tolerated so long as they don't 'get in the way'. This is RMS, except he's getting in the way.

The FSF being a (largely cultural) institution that can wield lots of power in many projects, makes it an enticing target for the progressive cause. If properly controlled, it could manipulate and pressure on many people. RMS being a stubborn autist who wont play along makes him target #1. Gaining hegemony over the FSF and shitcanning RMS would both be huge wins for these people.

So you might feel inclined to push back here in favor of RMS, but remember RMS is a disgusting communist who thinks fucking kids is sometimes maybe okay and is still definitely qualified to lecture people about morality, and his incarnation of a "heaven on earth" movement will totally work this time. If you hated FS, boosting RMS and the current FSF would likely push things in your desired direction.

I personally, can only support keeping him around as a troll: purely a headache for the idpol types to deal with and maybe prevent the FSF from falling into worse hands a bit longer, as he wont ever deliver the software freedoms he talks about, and is also a complete contradictory joke. RMS is apt punishment.

Using the term broadly. Hes making many of the same class of ontological mistakes to arrive at various conclusions. Follow him at your own peril. Also note you don't dispute his disgusting nature. FWIW, i agree that critical code infrastructure doesn't fill well inside the concepts copyright law as they exist.

EDIT: I almost forgot, RMS is big proponent of enforced wealth redistribution (he in fact sees taxation as the appropriate mechanism for this. see https://youtu.be/h-t4lmHcXqw?t=1885 ). A narrow definition also fits quite precisely.

I disagree a lot with RMS and some of his stances on Free Software (and those are the only stances on RMS I care about, as long as he isn't diddling kids he can hold those views, and my view that his stance comes more form autism (and obsession with words and meanings) then actual pedophilia), but I'd rather have RMS running the FSF then some shill in the pockets of big tech, or an idpol person. Honestly groups like the FSF and other purpose driven charities and NGOs need to be at least guided by an RMS in their field in that they take a hard stance and refuse to compromise their "ideal", no matter how impracticable, kind of like a devil's advocate of sorts.

i was an rms parishioner for a long time. saw him live a few times, bid on the stuffed gnu even. never got blessed by St IGNUcius though. emacs sucks. just seeing him for who he and fsf really is now (a waste of everyones time and a counterproductive disservice to the spirit of FS). yes things could be worse, and keeping him around is better than the alternative.

You pointed out correctly the reason RMS is a target - not his behavior, but the prestige of the FSF. just like colonial powers back in the day used to install a new king or subjugate the existing one to use his prestige as a vector of rule, so is the case with the FSF.
I don't like RMS much, the FSF is a bunch of busybodies, but, this is a clear takeover attempt by globohomo, (big tech is just an arm of it) and will probably affect free software negatively.
Since I don't have fuck-you money and can't afford to fork projects, hire engineers and direct them to create what I want, I have to live in the world as it is, and I'd rather RMS and the FSF remained a headache in it, rather than become subsumed into the system
