Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

"Inside the Victorian Home: A Portrait of Domestic Life in Victorian England" by Judith Flanders. It examines rooms according to different stages of life, so the sickroom/death culture stuff is all in the last chapters. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Thank you! Excuse this power level, but bizarrely, I'm reading this book right now. I just haven't made it that far yet. I love Judith Flanders and definitely recommend all of her books.

There's a secret part of me that hopes some of the most discussed munchies change their IG pages to state that their pronouns are kimchi/kimcher one week and podlee/podler the next just to watch the angst and effort of the mods on there to make sure all commentary is "respectful". The vibe of munchsnark and illness fakers is so bizarre. I do have a look around at those power-leveling their super serious illnesses though and cruise the elhers danlos r/ too to see whats trending with the crazies these days.

As to pronouns: I am old, I will call you he, she, or dumb fuck--whichever you prefer. I will not use plural words to refer to a single person. I will not even contemplate a world that expects neopronouns to be a valid thing.
I'm old too. Old enough to remember when labeling yourself or others was bad.

But if we both have sicksagram pronouns next week, I'll take it as a complement. Then laugh my ass off, because you know the kimchi one will be called cultural appropriation and the poodle will be a fatass.

I'm old too. Old enough to remember when labeling yourself or others was bad.
I think there was this weird mix-up where the pendulum swung from "I don't believe in labels" to "actually, it's useful for [gay / lesbian / autistic / chronically ill / whatever] people to have a shorthand for their experiences and to be able to easily find people experiencing the same things as them, but they're just descriptors of 'objective' reality" to "I have to label absolutely every aspect of my personality and lived experiences or I'm being invalidated". There's a bunch of autism I could go into about how division of the market is a sales tactic and encouraging people to split themselves into ever-smaller, more tightly defined boxes works well for companies, but let's skip that for everyone's sanity perhaps.

Dude and/or dudette, you have excellent taste in books. :D When you get to the sickroom chapter, judge for yourself whether Alice James meets munchie criteria. There's definitely an interesting study to be made of historical instances of what we'd call Munchausen's.

Didn't you literally dox yourself intentionally? And she still screwed this up?
The woman she sued was actually a former friend of hers who caught her purging and tried to have an intervention while they were on vacation. From what I was told Amanda sued the other girl when she got home claiming she was me, because I had mentioned her here and on the Jaquie thread sporadically and some of the photos were from that vacation. I got them off that girl’s Facebook and did not know what had happened or even that they had gone on vacation. Almost two months later at the end of July 2019 i made the long posts about her, still not aware of what was going on. It was just something I wanted to do and I posted them on her birthday. I hadn’t even found the court case until I guess around September someone on Reddit reminded me thay Florida court cases are public and I went to see why her brother kept getting arrested. That’s when I saw the stalking case but I didn’t recognize the name of the other woman because it’s not what she uses on Facebook.

A few months later I got DMs from someone who knew them IRL and sent me bunch of photos and videos off the friend’s now-locked social media which I posted, as well as information about the court cases and the fact that Amanda had a huge binder of “proof” this other girl was me. That’s when I found out. By then the judge had thrown out the case.

This all happened before my name got released

This new munchie, Casey, basically doxed himself into being noticed by posting himself to TikTok cringe (labeled as Wholesome), as "Wheelie Boye does a spin", where he gets a wheelchair for his severe POTS. Because Casey is either a moron, or thinks that the internet is a supportive hug box, they posted their paypal, handles and email addresses all over any site that would take them.

Summary:
Casey is a 18 year Old Canadian trans man, who lives in Ontario CA in their parent's home. He at one point mentions university/school but has since dropped out. Their identity shifts across their
timeline, and includes identifying as frog-gendered, identifying as a system, and having a "Little" in their system named froggy. They frequently mention having a athletic past as a canoer, and also was
seeking advice on roller skating while claiming to be bedbound for over a month. On the medical side of things Casey claims a variety of illnesses both mental and physical and shifts
from a dysautonomia symptoms -> potentially have POTS -> Self-DX POTS -> wheelchair user all in the
span of less than a week. It seems that as new shiny diagnoses come in old ones are discarded.

  • Their doctor called to say they have “pots like symptoms” as described in a video on April 4th, and the next video (same day) was a gofundme for getting their own wheelchair
  • Requested their doctor give them a wheelchair, and this was denied. The doctor noted that a wheelchair is not the recommended treatment for dysautonomia symptoms" Doctor recommended cardiac rehabilitation, Casey was very offended, because POTS is a neurological disease

  • claims their CPTSD is triggered by “being called a faker”
  • loves weed, yet complains that it triggers their asthma

  • Additionally routinely asks on their tumblr for money for rent and for prescriptions that OHIP doesn't cover. When signalboosting for others they tack their own paypal on the end.
  • In a twitter rant/advocacy post to buildabear (April 6), Casey goes on about how the wheelchair they sell is a transport chair, not self propelled. Casey then goes onto list, a more expensive, long term chair and describes it as "the wheelchairs I commonly use". Despite only receiving funding for a wheelchair 3 days before hand , and the wheelchair they own is a generic hospital style kind.
  • goes onto suggest that buildabear offers canes, crutches, braces, feeding tubes, etc. "Having a stuffie like me definitely makes me feel less alone and I'm 18!"
  • In response to funding being successful says " while I may never get back on my 'feet' again, you've certainly ensured that I get some sick wheels to roll around town in"
  • Begs for additional money on the same day as getting 600+ CAD to buy cowboy boots. Justification, "I will be in a wheelchair and I will look hot doing it"
  • Pre-POTS diagnosis (late March), Casey complains that their asthma acts up while using stairs. "I want one of those inhaler holders for my new rescue inhaler and a nice pride layard so I can wear it around the house"
  • On April 11th, Casey realises they've been posted to r/munchsnark and goes apeshit (which I ofc documented) and posts to r/chronicillness that we're mean.

You missed the latest, they now claim pRoFouD anemia is the cause of their fainting. So pRoFouD the doctor has them taking iron tablets, no blood transfusions, no IV iron at an infusion center. Claims it's due to an overly long period.

They just started injectable testosterone very recently, as in last 2 weeks. Were some of the meds they were crowd funding for something that caused it or did one of their trans friends send them some leftover prescription that could have triggered an extra long period?

They did make a post in a couple of the chronic illness groups yesterday on reddit about their pRoFouD anemia but quickly deleted once they found out about the MunchSnark post. Someone may be able to bring those posts back to life.

man i remember back in the day, here in the netherlands, it was "act normal, then you are already weird enough" . now here too the pronouns and the genderfluid bathrooms are creeping along.

also thank you for the recommendation !
i have always wondered how munchies acted in the 1800 etc.
i suspect it was partly easier because they didnt know a lot of stuff they do now.

imagine paige living in that era, i bet she couldnt pull the , 18th time septis trick because after 1 round she be dead.

Skin Walker knew that woman was NOT “Kate Farms Shill”. It was not an attempt to sue her. SW tried to get a protection order. However, I heard this person is in the process of preparing to press charges against SW for all her lying bullshit. I check frequently to see if it’s been filed yet. I do know for a fact that woman didn’t even know about the Farms until days before that vacation because I know the person who told her. This person has locked down and wants no part of Reddit/Farms and the leaks have become nearly impossible. Skinwalker has some serious mental illness including screenshots showing previously disclosed BPD. Skinwalker used whatever she could to throw to the judge as a ploy to be the biggest victim. The funny thing is that it’s the same named judge dealt with all her false accusations against her brother if you look it up. Records show the judge disposed both cases. Skinwalker used the claims of this person being “Kate Farms Shill” as leverage to show skinwalker as a victim. At one point screen shots from a 3rd party of Skinwalker admitted to this person of lying and apologizing for knowingly falsely accusing this person months later. Skinwalker still has social media but it’s very locked down. I must say she looks healthy! She looks like she’s gained 30 pounds! There is many screenshots that were printed out for court that I know I am responsible for leaking. A mutual friend noticed that MagicMo and Skinwalker are no longer friends on social media. DisabledHippie is not friends with Skinwalker on social media. MagicMo and DisabledHippie are Facebook friends. I have access to 2 sources now. Sadly the leaks have become nearly impossible and spread out.

Did he do a DFE?

Please don't get annoyed with me for going off topic or whatever but do these people actually know they're making up/ Exaggerating illnesses for attention? Or is it like hypochondria? I've really tried to read most of this thread and the subreddit, but I just end up grossed out and even more confused.

It's an addiction. In addition to getting hooked on their drugs (if they take them) and often having eating disorders they're hiding, both things notorious for making people be shitty and deceitful and manipulative to protect the disease, they also get addicted to the attention and care they get. It becomes that old thing where if you tell a lie often enough you start to forget it's not the truth. Somewhere deep down they know they're lying because otherwise they wouldn't spend so much energy trying to rationalize their inconsistencies away. They know they don't really need a wheelchair because they can get up and walk just fine when it suits them. But they're addicted and there's no way to back out of the lie without losing the attention, special treatment, and sometimes substances they're addicted to.

I think on a day-to-day basis the fact that what they're saying isn't true doesn't really cross their minds, if that makes sense. Like maybe at 3 am when they can't sleep something says "you're lying" and when they go to the doctor they get anxious knowing they're risking getting caught. But I don't think when they turn on instagram to make a post about how they dislocated their wrist, even if their wrist didn't even have a normal pop, it doesn't really sink in that it's a lie.

And like any other addiction, they have to keep escalating to get their fix. There's a reason so few of them recover - they stay in denial, keep upping the ante, end up addicts with real health problems from abusing their bodies, then they die young. Even the ones who seem to have a come-to-jesus like Amy Lee Fisher getting diagnosed with heart failure tend to wake up too late to save themselves, or they eventually relapse when they survive whatever scared them.

That is such a sad life to have. I don't understand why anyone would do such dangerous stupid shit for attention but I do appreciate your response. Eating disorders are dangerous enough in their own but mixing a bunch of surgeries, medicines and going to the doctor all the time just seems like a wasted life.
ETA: Addictions cause us all to do some stupid shit .

I also strongly believe there's a family connection. For example, some one who has a mother prone to munch could learn from birth that is the way to receive the most love and fall into the same pattern.

You are right that it's a very sad life. A person cannot really receive sustainable relationships this way. They just keep ramping it up looking for something, but end up pushing away all their friends.

I would advise reading some case studies if you're really interested, but true munchausens is gross. They do gross things because they feel like they have to. Paige rubs urine in every incision. Kelly has a hole straight through her leg. Morgan posts pictures of her vomit like every day. That's the mental illness.

Kelly really needs to put forth some sort of effort to keep up. Paige munched her way to a lobster claw.

The funny thing is that for pRoFoUnD low iron you can't take supplements because the amount of iron you ingest isn't high enough to catch you up to where you need to be, they're essentially pointless. You would absolutely need an infusion, perhaps even several over multiple months. Besides, if it was so fucking profound it would probably require a transfusion (or multiple if it's sooper profound) rather than just some mundane infusion your PCP could give you.

Really, Casey needs to munch harder than just taking normie supplements for their severely low iron. That's amatuer hour. If they were a better munchie they could get themselves a sweet hospital selfie while they get their transfusion complete with their choice of the overly-happy-thumbs-up pose or the saddest-munchie-ever-face pose.

Walk into any high school and a good portion of the girls are mildly anemic and are or should be taking iron supplementation. It's just about the most common medical difficulty an adolescent girl could have. And one suspects Casey may not be eating a balanced, iron-rich diet either.

Exactly. Most girls will be told to eat more red meat and to take supplements. You need a pretty drastically low level to get infusions, and you need to be extremely depleted to need blood transfusions.

My PCP told me that trying to fix very low iron levels (to the point where you needed infusions) you absolutely can't fix it with long-term supplements because it's like trying to plug a basketball-sized hole with a baseball. You need infusions if it's bad and transfusions if it's severe. It just can't be done with pills, so if there's a diagnosis of low iron at all and she was told to take supplements it was definitely a mild case.
