As a juror, you hear the same case we've been watching in livestreams minus the stuff that they're obviously away for. Then at the deliberation phase, they're given a list of charges and they converse in a back room over the evidence to decide what all Chauvin is guilty of. I don't think they can convict on charges that aren't presented. If I'm not mistaken, and I'm just going off of my own experiences as a juror on a murder trial, the prosecution presents the charges they were shooting to convict Chauvin with (ie. Manslaughter, 3rd Degree murder) and then a number of other minor composite charges should the jury not agree with certain elements so the defendant can be prosecuted on at least something. It should literally just be yae or nae but the jurors must unanimously agree on the verdict. They can't prosecute on popular vote.

The term for those smaller charges is "Lesser Included Offenses". It is worth noting, the jury can only pick one BUT it also bars a future attempt. The prosecution cannot try him for anything they present again. So even if their manslaughter case is better, if they botch the murder one and the jury feels any element of manslaughter was missing, they do not get a second try at manslaughter since they included it.

Also she gets to resign with full pension etc while everyone involved in this case was shotcanned (and charged) instantly.

She needs to flee to some country where we don't have extradition. She's not getting a fair trial, rain or shine.

They generally need to be given actual jury instructions for the LIOs. They can't decide this legal issue themselves. For strategic reasons, it's possible that neither the prosecution nor the defense request such instructions, and whether such a request is granted is up to the judge. None of the counts currently in the case are LIOs of each other, as they all have contradictory mens rea elements.

So far as I can tell, so far, both the prosecution and defense are requesting the generic pattern jury instructions and not trying anything fancy. They're obviously trying to weight it toward a conviction but it isn't an extraordinary or extremely unusual set of suggested jury instructions. Needless to say, bad jury instructions are one of many possible appeals points, and the proper set of jury instructions could actually change in between a conviction and appeal in this case, specifically because of the Noor case which currently awaits an appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court. If that decision comes down and reverses it if Chauvin is convicted of the depraved-indifference homicide count, based on a nearly identical theory, his conviction could end up reversed if based on instructions urging the Noor theory.
