Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

It seems John has learned the Aubrey Sitterson lesson. Why go out of your way to antagonize fans when it's easier to be cordial to everyone.
JDA never antagonized the fans. He slagged Ethan for throwing him under a bus for his association to Vox Day. The fans turned on JDA, not the other way around.

You mad bro?
Nah Nasser, I'm good. Watching you and JDA debase yourselves for a few thousand bucks in IGG support is rather entertaining.

Are you upset about something? Perhaps the taste of some fat dudes ass on your tongue?

Ask him to wash first next time.

I see it's been a bit slow lately. Aside from the whole Jimmy is a pedophile and War Campaign trying to scream CG = pedos. Lol at anyone taking what they fucking say seriously (Stop fucking engaging with them, Piper).

I had wondered what good ol Preston was up to. He had some hot takes over the guy getting arrested, acting like it wasn't a surprise due to his work. I think the irony is lost on the coomer dipshit, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. But what of Preston's loyal followers?

Oh. I see Molby's still extra retarded. I cringed at this shit. You can all cringe with me.

Cringy yes, also kind of sad. Comicsgate and Anti-Comicsgate has its share of protagonists and antagonists (depending on your POV), "heroes and villains" if you will. But somehow PP and his handful of followers exude nothing but pathos.

What I do enjoy seeing is more people outside of this ridiculous little sphere seeing real results without having to debase themselves or to simp their souls away. CG has become shorthand for crowdfunded comics in general, which I believe ought to fade out as more big names do it their own way too and surpass Ethan in enough ways that he can't claim he has the golden formula of success. When it comes to crowdfunding, you have to work to your strengths. Granted, it would be like winning the lottery to have the kind of strengths Ethan has in both quality of rendering plus visibility on a major platform like YT. Strengths like that can mask an awful lot of shortcomings and bad behavior though.

Kudos to those who don't mindlessly try to imitate but genuinely do it their way and do it cleanly. Kudos to those who really want to make their mark and not be a notch on someone else's belt. I keep coming back here to laugh, but there's a lot of inside info on titles and creatives I'd probably never know about unless it was posted here. Let Sciverfrog throatpuff all he wants, I''ll keep popping those bubbles. If the work was more than a self-insert I might have bought it by now. I am kinda surprised how many folks let him get away with his flimsy narrative changes but that's the power of celebrity on the caboose of the entertainment industry's human centipede.

Speaking of human centipede... news on Crab Rash Cash Grab?

Yep, he was part of PK v1.0. His job was the distribution of meme's

Mecha thinks he has a chance to come back
I've said it before but I'll say it again. @Mecha is beyond retarded.

Maybe he can tell us about his roll in the Preston Knights stupidity.

EDIT: He's reacting to the posts but I don't think he has the stones to address the gloriously cowed up gayops group he helped found.

ok, Cool Hand Luke. Personally, I thought you were Preston or Comic Book Hut based on the way you feel the need to shit on everything CG related, but both of them have a better reason to be mad at anything CG related than just Ethan says a couple offensive things on his streams to create Drama.

If you search on here, I posted all the screenshots from their "RULES & REGULATIONS" meeting they had in a discord. It is beyond cringe to read

And lying about shit comics being good only damages your own credibility.
Yep. When other creators praise books like College of the Dead or Magic Cop/The Lost Pages, my immediate reaction is "You either didn't read them or you're lying to protect someone's feelings." I understand not wanting to be overtly critical of others' work in CG, especially newer creators who are finding their footing. But coddling them doesn't help anyone. It makes me trust your word less and it's a disservice to the creators who should be receiving honest feedback so they can improve (or try to). It also spits in the face of this concept of "merit."

A further example is Ya Boi Zack, who is raising great numbers on some (imo) pretty crap-looking comics, without participating in any 'co-operative network' activity.
Simple Zack going from 10,000 backers for Jawbreakers: Lost Souls to struggling to hit 1000 in 2021 may not be the big "going solo" success you say it is. Although I'm willing to concede there might be other reasons for this. Have you checked out this latest cover?

Specifically I question his idea of a promotional co-operative creator network being the foundation of CG. I think the promotion aspect is important, not the co-operative aspect...

...In practice, that creator-networking is only good when there's real talent being showcased, good product. Anything less is just a waste of everyone's time. And lying about shit comics being good only damages your own credibility.
To attract real talent you need to prove that the audience/potential customers are there, and to attract (or at least retain) potential customers you need real talent. One problem is that the people who proved an ability to get an audience instead of going to the effort and the risk of creating a crowdfund project went for the much easier youtube revenue and proceeded to be systematically domesticated by the youtube algorithm.

Is Ethan promoting 499 on his streams at all?

Honest question. I haven't listened to a FrogCast in over a year.

If he gave Meyer the same hype he gives his regulars I'd expect Richard would have twice as many backers for that shoddy comic. I get that Frog won't give that kind of promotion though because Simple Zach won't come on the streams.

Seems like Meyer just doesn't care enough to hustle and promote the shit he's putting out.

Maybe he should take a break from YouTube completely and come back when he has a finished book people might want to read, like another super GI-Joe book, and promote the fuck out of it like a triumphant return. Imagine if his next JB book was packed and ready to ship on the campaigns closing day and the rest of the books could be shipped as they were ordered. People would have something to get excited about like a hotdog that is still warm and cooked the same day.

I'm surprised no one has tried this. Of course many are still struggling to get the books they sold last decade out so go figure.

Boi Zach always does a token plug for his books at the beginning/end of his vids. Every time I hear him say 499 Graphic Novel, I think he's saying one of his campaigns is $4.99. His promotion is very oh and by the way. People who listen to his vids as background noise from time to time (like I) will not really know what his projects are.

for being a military guy and a stickler for detail, Zack sure does let Narwahl get away with a lot of shit. I mean what the fuck is up with dudes hand? It looks like it’s put on backwards.

Maybe some of these creators are just outright paying for exposure. Not talking about someone like CL that basically bought her way into the club by superchatting every stream for a year but these bad looking books that get praise and promotion from people that have to know the shit looks terrible. Magic Cop looks like the illustrations from an old Happy Meal box but I've seen it promoted on a few channels and I'm always puzzled as to how anyone could recommend their backers spend money on it.

If Brandon Diaz took those Magic Cop pages to a portfolio review, it would more than likely get savaged by pretty much any pro worth a shit. I've personally witnessed comics pros dissect every flaw in work that to the unprofessional eye seemed above average/good. Comic customers don't care quite as much if the anatomy isn't 100% or if a dude has a problem with perspective as long as they like it, whereas a pro will notice it and call them out. But these books look bad and are getting praise from guys that have to know it isn't up to snuff. It doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that some of these guys just grease the palms of a few YT pros as a marketing budget. Shit, if you can pay Bisley to do a cover for Lost Pages, you can pay for some promo.

Frog has expressed concern over Zack's direction as of late, lamenting that he doesn't do streams or any sort of real promotion for his stuff and isn't concentrating on Jawbreakers as his #1 priority. He's absolutely right, too. Zack seems even more unfocused the last little while and seems like he's floating into basket case territory.

I'm actually low-key, cautiously excited for Zack's potential rebirth/renaissance as an Ooropean-style bande dessinée author.

Hopefully Narwhal is just kind of an awkward stepping stone on Zack's glorious march towards European comics supremacy.

Look at his delightful recent community post from Youtube:

I mean, why use the shambling corpse of American comics that only isn't bankrupt because all aspects are subsidized when you could use the Euro scene that has notably more success nowadays as your example?

He did at first when it launched in December but between refusing to appear, and launching Rock N Roll Ninja in the middle of the night while telling no one, Frog's shilling became tinged with increasing exasperation with Zack. With the sacred cow not quite so sacred, the audience is growing considerably more hostile with Zack, what with the refusal to interact to what were fans along with the approaching year long delay with multiple crowdfunds. And it's not like there's a shortage of other things that could be promoted instead of this:

Zack's problem isn't getting the book made on time. I strongly suspect the books were finished by the original deadline back in October; the issue is that he has been stuck in a protracted contract dispute with his secret fulfillment company until last month. Now he's giving updates about teaching himself fulfillment out of "his friends' spare room" only now, six months after the original delivery date. How many orders are waiting on shipment? Only 8683? Sounds like a recipe for success.

Meyer explains the situation himself here, but it's overshadowed by his "pretending to be retarded" 'go pills' bit.
