Game of Thrones Thread

Is there even a single explicitly wooden castle within any of Mr. Martin's novels or books set within that setting? The man is very fond of describing fortifications, and they are always - always - stone.

Even disregarding that, castles don't swim around.
deep wood motte is explicitly a castle (motte) made out of wood.

fortification classifications aren’t consistent in the books or reality, forts and castles are catch all really.

Prequels don’t interest me. We already know what is going to happen, unless they start making up dumb twists.
Prequels can be interesting if they have something interesting to depict, especially if they happen far enough into the past that it shouldn't really be called a prequel. Kotor doesn't really bother me as a prequel story to the main trilogy as it's far enough back that it doesn't really involve anything to do with the movies, and the events and characters are interesting enough to make it enjoyable.
The main issue here is we have a prequel story to arguably one of the biggest letdown endings ever. So it doesn't matter what happens in the prequel shows because no matter what it all eventually leads up to the later seasons shitting themselves.
Same reason why anything Star Wars now is off putting, because no matter what it leads up to the disney trilogy

The only one who truly wants this series to happen is Mr. Martin himself, since House Targaryen seems to be the only element of his setting he is truly in love with, similarly to David Lynch and Laura Palmer, or Dave Filoni and Ahsoka Tano. Notice that all the other planned series are either dead in the water or in production hell whilst, from what I've read, Mr. Martin is quite absorbed by working on this product.
The only spinoff that MIGHT recapture SOME of the lost audience, Dunk & Egg, is one that is currently in "early development". That could literally mean anything. To me it mostly means they're trying to figure out how to shoehorn ugly women and black guys into a story revolving around two white dudes.

Not to mention that the Hedge Knight series also isn't complete, so they know they'll come upon the same problems as with Game of Thrones, unless this time they'll listen to Mr. Martin and actually let the series breathe.

They are desperately trying to Star Wars this shit. After the dumpsterfire of the Sequel Trilogy Disney in the process of making 10 shows and maybe one of them will be set after said trilogy with most everything else set around the time people care about. Problem is that GOT doesn't have 30+ years of godwill and nostalgia bait built around it that the number of people HBO wants to attract would care about.

They're going to adapt the jumbled mess that was the Dance of Dragons situation, or is it something else entirely? I have my doubts if someone other than hardcore fans would care about it. My knowledge of ASoIaF lore is rather rusty since it's been ages that I stepped out of my obsessive phase.

Anyways, I thought they were going to adapt Aegon's conquest, or at the very least the False Spring/Robert's Rebellion. Those could have been interesting, not only for me but for casual readers and/or fans of the original show. The events are already laid down to be done, so there would be little space for fuckery.

The thing that burned the most in the last season is the audience's good will towards the franchise.

I wish we had an "cringe" sticker.

George seems excited as well, posted this on his blog last week.

Yes, they're adapting that mess, specifically the part GRRM included in part 1 of his Targaryen history. IDK if they have long-term plans to make it an anthology show and adapt the entirety of Fire and Blood, but if that is the case, I'm going to laugh when GRRM takes forever to release part 2 of that book and they have to wing it after the halfway mark again.

The cast and how they look compared to the characters is the least of my worries. I mean, Mance Rayder was expected to be played by Dominic West because that's how he should look like and look what we got instead. The production of the show didn't give a shit about their product, why would we? Yes, I know it's a different team, but still.

There is a character in one of the stories that is very, very gay. One of the reasons I don't want them to adapt D&E is because they are going to completely fuck him up and make him some lusty degenerate just like they did with Loras Tyrell before blowing him up with the rest of his family.

The Dance of Dragons was subtly referenced in the show, IICR. So, fans of the show probably do know a bit about how there were Targaryen wars and really you don't need to know more to actually get hooked with the story.

If the project is given to people who aren't complete idiots, it can work.
